Some of these holiday suggestions are way over a £10k budget for 4 people!

DreamingofSunshine · 29/03/2018 07:10

I thought that swimster. I'm normally very good at pricing up trips and getting a lot for my budget but I'd struggle with some of these.

Depends on what time of year you are going and what you've done before. NYC could be fantastic for a week with those age DC.

Out of the places I have been I would go to back to Bali. Beautiful country, lovely people, so relaxed. We did Bali pretty comfortably on 5k for 4. I’ve also been to Sri Lanka and found it a mixed bag. I’d like to do the East coast of the USA - New York to Florida, so if I had 10k I think I’d do that, and do some of the Orlando theme parks.

NZ. Or Malawi, to the lake.

Thailand for the food , culture, people, scenery and beaches

ladyirish · 29/03/2018 12:37

Thailand & camboida. For me it would have to Mexico not all Holbox isla majures and Playa with all hotels on the beach. Great value load to see and do gorgeous food.I just love mexico staying in smaller hotels not all Insluive for us a waste of money

I'd take them on a safari in Africa. Before dc we went and it was incredible and would be an amazing experience for children that age (probably not younger though)

SJane45S · 30/03/2018 19:44

Multi country S E Asia using a tour company (which I usually avoid to save £ but would be nice!)

Catra · 30/03/2018 19:53

A pacific coast tour from Vancouver to San Francisco, via Seattle and Portland. A friend did it last year and said it was amazing. If I had any money left over I'd swing by Lake Tahoe and Yosemite national park.

boatyardblues · 30/03/2018 19:56

Japan.

LinoleumBlownapart · 30/03/2018 19:58

Japan. My dream is to go.

fuzzyduck1 · 01/04/2018 15:59

Blackpool

You could spend ages in the arcades with that sort of money

lifechangesforever · 01/04/2018 16:06

Florida, again and again and again.

BennyTheBall · 01/04/2018 16:10

Sounds a lot, but sadly, isn't.

We are just looking at renting a house in Santa Barbara for 2 weeks. With flights, it's over 10k.

PeonyTruffle · 01/04/2018 16:25

Back to Mexico, love it there so much

BubblesBuddy · 02/04/2018 11:21

Japan for £10,000 for four??? You just cannot do it for that if you want two weeks. It’s an expensive holiday destination. We spent £4000 pp several years ago.

There are not really cheap safari holidays either. Certainly not Botswana. You might get bargain basement in Kenya when it’s raining. Or during winter in South Africa.

I think you might just squeeze in India, Vietnam and Thailand for £10,000. Florida is usually inexpensive and you could look at Boston and New England. It’s not cheap when you get there though! Mexico would be a possibility or Belize and Costa Rica at a push.

Look for specialist family holiday companies for the best deals. We did a fantastic family adventure trip to Peru but I don’t think it would be £10,000 for a family of four now. I can highly recommend it though!

We’ve done 3.5 weeks on the west coast of the USA (San Diego, LA, San Francisco and Vegas) and 4 weeks in South Africa ((Cape Town to PE and back) for a family of 4 for that budget each time, without skimping. We use Hotels.com to book accommodation (the free nights are great) and shop around for car hire and flights.

You can safari in SA on a budget - there are plenty of smaller private game reserves that cater for families (our youngest was 9 at the time) and staying in the national parks themselves can be good value. SA winter is a good time to go as you’ll see plenty of game. I’d stick to the south of the country with an 8 year so as to avoid the malarial areas.
