Had been looking at a fly drive around Quebec, Montreal etc but some rather hefty unexpected bills are clipping our wings this year and so we're now looking at Europe. We've done villa holidays before in South of France, various locations on mainland Italy (and also Sardinia and Sicily), Spain, Greece etc and so now we're thinking perhaps Croatia? If you have been, what did you like / what would you recommend?

We are a family of 4 (kids will be 14 and 16 by the time the holiday comes around). They enjoy some sightseeing but not wild about too many dusty cathedrals. They will happily do places of historical interest however (particularly if they relate to stuff they have studied at school). We are not uber beachy (probably would go a couple of times in a week), but do like a well appointed villa with a pool. They also like adrenaline type outdoorsy stuff and appreciate beautiful scenery.

(and there has to be wifi)

People do care. If you literally CAN'T UNDERSTAND why people might think it's a tad boastful then you must be extremely naive. I think the reason the OPs post is so odd is that you could go almost anywhere on the planet for 10k a week

TalkinPeace · 19/02/2018 16:36

Hvar is gorgeous - but stay in Stari GRad rather than Hvar town

TalkinPeace · 19/02/2018 16:39

PS
We flew easyjet, stayed in airbnb's, ate out at restaurants every meal, had a day in Trogir before, took the seaplane, three nights in Split afterwards
and still had change out of £4000 for 2 weeks

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 19/02/2018 16:43

Who are the other 46 people looking at the Villa Bliveria on the Oiverstravels.com website... it’s a villa in Croatia for £10,284 for the week?? Jokes aside OP, have a look at that website as they have a good range of Croatian villas both location and price.

And I don’t get the “you can go anywhere in the world for that price” comment. I looked yesterday for a week in Majorca for a hotel that I wanted and that came back at £5k for a week over the summer.... and annoyingly I’d only put down for 2 rather than 4 of us.

My holiday, my choice, my budget.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 19/02/2018 16:47

scabberly i can aee people care, no ones explaining why though. Its not your money! I cant see op going you all have to spemd ten grand on your holiday. Ive asked you this and you didnt answer. How much did you spend on your holiday? Can i care about you spending your money on your holiday? Im guessing you dont want me to so your not telling me. I genuinely dont care btw. Hope you had a lovely time wether you spent £35 for a night in a travel lodge or £5k going to austraila i dont give a shit. And i dont get why any one would

Yay wow you can go any where on the planet for ten k. Awesome you can buy just about any dress foe about £60 but no one bats an eye lid when people are spending hundreds of pounds.

queenofarles · 19/02/2018 16:49

I wouldn't spend that much in Croatia TBH,its one of those places i wouldnt like to visit again, hotels were so overpriced . and food was mediocre. id rather do st tropz or amalfi coast again, you can find amazing villas for around £4k-£5k.

Morocco is amazing but I wouldn't go in summer way to hot,

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 19/02/2018 16:49

justfive thats exactly my point everyones holiday budget is different i dont get the judgemental comments but im nieve apparently

Scabbersley · 19/02/2018 16:49

5k for a week is not 10k for a week Confused

crackerjacket · 19/02/2018 16:50

For 10k you could do Quebec easily.

I live in Montreal and have loads of ideas for an itinerary....

Scabbersley · 19/02/2018 16:53

I've just googled luxury Canadian fly drives and there's plenty of 7 or 10 day trips Inc flights for between 1600 and 2k pp

That gives you 2.5k spending money

manicinsomniac · 19/02/2018 16:53

Looks like you've got some good suggestions. Honestly though, for that budget I'd be wanting something a bit more exotic than Croatia.

I once spent around many thousands of pounds (not 10) on a holiday for me and 2 children.
We:
flew from UK to Brazil
Had 1 week in Rio staying in a youth hostel and exploring the city and the beaches
Flew to Manaus
Had 1 week in the Amazon Rainforest staying in a tree top hotel and doing various expeditions
Flew to Foz do Iguassu
Had 5 days in a youth hostel around the Brazilian-Argentine-Paraguay border seeing the Iguassu falls and various other things in that area.
Flew to Belo Horizonte
Had 12 days staying with family and friends there and in Sao Paulo and doing random local stuff
Flew back to Rio and on to the UK

Over a month's holiday in 3 South American countries and I think it was around 7 - 8K in total.

For a week in Croatia, I do think you're being ripped off a little!

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/02/2018 16:56

There's a hotel in Puerto Soller Mallorca that is £8.9k for the OPs party for a week B&B, which would leave the OP a measly £1.1k to pay for flights, transfers, activities and lunch and dinner for the week and judging by the prices in the local restaurants when DP and I went there (Puerto Soller not the vair fancy hotel) that would be nowhere near enough.

Scabbersley · 19/02/2018 16:59

10k will get you a nice villa for a week pretty much anywhere. Maybe not a luxury hotel!

ultrababy · 19/02/2018 17:02

We went to Croatia last year. We flew into Dubrovnik and stayed in a village called Cavtat. It was beautiful. The sea is lovely but very rocky beaches.
The restaurants were lovely and all mid range price wise. It was very popular with the mega yacht owners but they all ate in the same restaurants.
We caught the water taxi over to Dubrovnik. Took about 30 minutes. There are also four other stops you could get off.
We were 2 adults three teenagers and our apartment was £1500 and the flight guys came in at £1000
Our week came to over £5k but we did hire a boat and didn't scrimp on eating out and wine.
Would definitely go again.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 19/02/2018 17:07

5k for a week is not 10k for a week no scabberly and £200 a night isnt £35 a night - so what its a different budget. Awesone its not your budget but it is ops

HopeClearwater · 19/02/2018 17:10

I dont see why people who earn more saying their spending more are called boasty or goady. I dont see why its got anything to do with any one else

It has got to do with other people because the income gap in this country is bloody ridiculous and it sticks in people’s throats that you can do a decent job in education or healthcare for sod all cash while fund managers in the City playing with other people’s investments are literally hundreds of times better paid.

Btw Croatia is beautiful but I went there because it was cheap.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/02/2018 17:14

Yes the income gap is ridiculous, but so is the attitude on here that no-one is allowed to admit to having/doing anything nice without being accused of boasting unless it's property.

People talk about their period detached properties in the right village near the right schools, which is something far less affordable to most than a £10k holiday and yet no-one ever accuses them of boasting for that. Confused

Hithere1981 · 19/02/2018 17:15

If I had that money I would be hiring a private yacht with Capt / staff and sailing from Split to Dubrovnik via Hvar, Korcula & Mljet! Once I got to Dubrovnik, I would stay at Hotel Argentina for a few nights.

Says it all really. You think £10k is going to get you that, you have another coming.

£10k for the week for 4 including flights will get you a wonderful villa on a good airline on dates that suit you.

It’s not going to get you a private flipping yacht!

OP, Cavtat was lovely. Really special.

Hithere1981 · 19/02/2018 17:19

2 years ago we spent £13 on 13 nights. 7 nights in Sani in Greece and 6 up in the mountains.
The 7 nights were at Sani beach hotel (the least luxurious of the four hotels in the resort). The wealth of those staying in the most luxurious hotel was plain to see. We were the paupers at that resort!

Whatever your budget, there will be people with more. That’s life.

Hithere1981 · 19/02/2018 17:20

£13 on 13 nights? Oh how I wish that was the case. £13k

Bobbybobbins · 19/02/2018 17:31

We loved Split and Hvar - then went up to Lake Bled in Slovenia which would be good for your teens - lots of swimming, cycling and water sports nearby

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 19/02/2018 17:39

Naught, I think we get that you don't get it!!Grin

bobstersmum · 19/02/2018 17:40

I will start a thread to boast about my huge unnecessary holiday budget..

Rhubarbginmum · 19/02/2018 17:45

I know holidays have gone up considerably this year but I think if you have a 10k budget go to a travel agent. I am sure they will be delighted to help you spend it. That is an obscene amount of money to consider spending on a holiday and it feels like it’s a fake post meant to be based on a mumsnet caricature or your just rubbing everyone else’s noses in it?

Scabbersley · 19/02/2018 17:49

It’s not going to get you a private flipping yacht! you can get a skippered sunsail charter for a week in Croatia for about 6k
