Like your thinking OP. We have done Majorca and quieter places in the Algarve both were extremely hot but certainly places in the Algarve have a cooling breeze and we shelter in the shade a lot neither of the places we have stayed have enough to definitely occupy a teen.

Brittany

DPotter · 07/01/2018 16:17

Totally agree about being 'off duty' on holiday.
Have been to SW France in August and not too hot (and we're were in a tent) - St Jean De Luz and Biarritz area. Wsa ages ago so no idea if there are water parks - the beaches were amazing!

AnyFucker · 07/01/2018 16:21

The Canary Islands don't generally have the extremes of temperature year round. Not too cold in the winter, not too hot in the summer

specialsubject · 07/01/2018 16:22

While end of august isn't the hottest time in Greece, not the place for you.

Send the kid on a pgl and go to some of the alpine lakes.

josiemczoo · 07/01/2018 16:23

We’ve been to Majorca twice in August and neither time was particularly hot. Just pleasantly warm.

nancy75 · 07/01/2018 16:25

What about somewhere like Sweden or Denmark? I do t think they have the scorching weather of Southern Europe?

nancy75 · 07/01/2018 16:29

This Lake Hotel In Austria looks lovely, although it could well cost a fortune!

This is a bit left field, but we've been multiple times to a small Greek island where we hire a day boat. Your teen could captain the boat, and you can go off exploring each day. It's much cooler on the water, the boats have canopies and you can moor anywhere and go off exploring on land or snorkelling if it's hot.

Will name the island if you are interested, but prefer to keep it quiet otherwise Grin

Also, we've had some fab summer holidays in the Swiss Alps. Summer tobogganing, zip wires, adventure parks and even paragliding and helicopter rides. You can travel by train and ski lift up into the mountains. Not cheap, but a brilliant holiday.

Britanny, France

Holland - Duinrell the bill, plenty of sandy beaches nearby, and Amsterdam for culture

museumum · 07/01/2018 16:35

Holland - their centre parks and other parks are great. Duinrell or the Elf one - can’t rwmember the name, someone will help.

museumum · 07/01/2018 16:35

Efteling I think?

QueenOfIce · 07/01/2018 17:42

Yes Kia name that island! Or sent me a dm? Pm? Whatever it is. What about a cruise? I can hide away in the various bars trying all the cocktails getting pissed while teen is in the 'teen club' and dh is getting lost on board.

I'd suggest Tropical Islands in Germany. It's 60km from Berlin and is one of the largest indoor water parks in Europe. Four indoor water slides, white water rapids, indoor scuba diving lessons and a variety of accommodation options including rooms, lodges and canvas tents.

Chewbecca · 07/01/2018 17:47

I do bang on about it a bit but our teen DS loves cruising. He always makes friends & we barely see him on board, dinner time only. We spend time together on port days, touring the town or doing an activity, works really well for us.

This summer we're going to Ireland & Iceland on a celebrity cruise so won't be v warm at all!

QueenOfIce · 07/01/2018 17:47

That sounds like hell fun rice, I'm off to google, thank you!

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 07/01/2018 17:48

& we tend to get a drink package included in the cost of the cruise so as many cocktails as we can manage!

RockinRobinTweets · 07/01/2018 17:48

Roses, Costa Brava

QueenOfIce · 07/01/2018 17:48

Chew have you been on either the Rhapsody or the Norwegian Star by any chance?

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 07/01/2018 17:50

No, not a fan of Norwegian or RC to be honest - too energetic for us!

GreenTulips · 07/01/2018 17:53

I've been looking at Amsterdam and Bulgaria (Sofia) lower temps and lots of water parks
