Have you seen that Tropical Islands Rice suggested, it looks great! Maybe dh can take teen with him alone and I'll stay at home with the cat!

Have you booked anything yet OP?

QueenOfIce · 08/01/2018 19:06

No, have been looking at cruises and so I now have info overload. Why must there be so much choice!

Southern Germany

QueenOfIce I am the same. I also looked at cruises they sound very pricey and never having done a cruise before their is a lot to consider.

I think a cruise would fit the bill too. Fantastic for teens if you book the right cruise lines. Extremely good value for money if you get a 'saver' type fare where you just book say a balcony grade then get exact cabin allocated nearer the time. You'd get one for about 800 each and all food included. On a cruise you always have a sea breeze so no worries about being too hot. Ring up a specialist cruise agent like Bolsover and they'll talk you through all the options and different cruise lines.

QueenOfIce · 09/01/2018 10:38

@MoanerLiza thank you! I've found a couple of cruises (I started a new thread in cruises but I've yet to have a reply) we have the option of the Rhapsody or Norwegian Star or the Ventura.

Any of those grab you? Should we book a balcony room was thinking outside would be ok but I guess if the ship is busy being on the balcony will be nice plus I can stick dh and dd out there whilst I get ready!

I agree Bright RCI have drinks packages included at the moment which is a bonus. The thing I am finding hard is that there are thousands of reviews lots and lots of moaning ones which don't help me at all, there does t appear to be a standout cruise line or particular ship that folk don't moan about!

Also I think I want mid sized, the thought of a massive ship overrun with over excited sugar loaded kids fills me with dread, I am not a lover of noise!

It’s confusing but my leave is quite restrictive as well so you need to find something that fits with that.
You always get moaners I usually search Trip Adviser for family reviews around the time I want to go for the previous years and read their comments and go with the majority.

Between us my extended family have probably been on 50 cruises and we all agree that you can't beat P&O as an overall cruise line (Ventura is P&O). Costs are reasonable on board with drinks the same as an average pub price. Also onboard currency is sterling. Food and entertainment to suit all tastes. It's not such a glitzy line in terms of facilities like surfing and rock climbing and Royal Caribbean excels in those respects. You will get a lot of different opinions on whether a balcony is worth it, personally I think it is and it is sheer joy being out there looking at the sea and the scenery, whales, dolphins, other ships, waving to people on the quayside, and so on. I even find all the docking processes fascinating. They are not usually much more than outside cabins which although there's a window, it never opens so no breeze and reliant on aircon.

We find that moaners, which I'm not by the way despite the name, are often people who've been cruising for many years and think standards have slipped, or those with particular needs which they feel are not being met adequately like special diets. There are of course some who will whinge about anything even things beyond the cruise line's control like bad weather or delayed flights. Everyone I know who's been on a cruise becomes absolutely addicted and can't wait to book the next one!
