Las Vagas - how much spending money

I have seen a couple of threads on this from a few years ago but wondering if things had changed so thought I’d start a new thread.

I’m off to Vegas with DH in April for a good friend’s wedding. The wedding will take up one day with food and drink provided.

We’ll be there 7 days in total and haven’t got breakfast included in the hotel price. We aren’t planning on going mad with going out to clubs etc, we’re old and boring now. We’d like to have a couple of nice meals but other than that happy to have cheapish meals the rest of the time. Probably have a few drinks in bars and a tiny bit of gambling. That side doesn’t really appeal.

Might go to a show, depending on what is on. Can anyone give any kind of estimate as to how much we might need?

Hi, I've been to vegas a few times and used to always work on a 100 dollars a day budget and that used to get us through. It's been 7 years since I last went though!

Don't forget the resort fees too. They can be pretty expensive.

Been recently. It’s expensive. I would suggest having breakfast buffet in a decent hotel mid morning as this lasts you for the most of the day until dinner. $25 a head in some of the nicer hotels and def worth it- great food. Lunch or snacks you can pick up in cvs or Walgreens pharmacy. Drinks are expensive too $16-20 for a cocktail. Shows - really recommend ‘O’ cirque du soilel in the Bellagio - out of this world! So much choice and variety but in general quite expensive

I would recommend going to a Cirque Du Soliel show too. We went to the Michael Jackson one in August and it was amazing. Tickets are expensive though. I think we paid about $130 each.

Drinks are really expensive, especially with tipping. We struggled to find any food shops (were self catering). I think the buffet idea is a good one - you can eat so much that you don’t need to eat for a while!

It's the sort of place where you could live on McDonalds for a week... Or fine dining.
$150 a day each for everything would be a a fair budget.

Brunch at the Wynn is amazing.
Penn and Teller at Rio is fun.
Wandering around and absorbing the craziness is free.
You can buy booze from pharmacies and drink it wandering down the strip.

Good idea about a massive breakfast. The resort fee is about $35 per day I think which we are budgeting for. We’re staying at MGM which seems to have a good restaurant selection. Thanks for the tips. Other sites were suggesting $400 per day which scared me a bit.

Or there's a food court in the fashion mall on the strip. It's really cheap and lovely good, great place for a casual cheapy lunch. I found that saved us loads of money on days we weren't going out for a restaurant meal.

We went to Vegas (in fact we got married there). We took £4000 (whatever the equivalent in dollars) and were there to be spends.

We ended up bringing home £1500.

Our wedding cost are not included in this.
We spent a fair bit on a helicopter ride to the canyon, shows etc x

£100 a day is perfectly fine. It's not that expensive to eat more like prices in nice places in U.K. I think. If you are gambling (even on the penny slots) then the drinks are free

No you could totally do it £100 per day for a couple. That's going to reasonably nice places for dinner but not ordering expensive wine etc. Also that wouldn't include tickets for shows, clothes shopping (great malls in LV) etc

wasthataburp Agreed as me and DS have done that and found some says we spent more be some days we spent less so it all evened out. If we needed to buy tickets/trips that was booked and paid for separately.

Yes I think trips and shows we would probably book before we arrive, so probably wouldn’t need money for those there. Hopefully we can do it all without spending silly money. But also we don’t want to miss out, so need to find the balance.

Will the wedding party you're with be going to any big clubs/bars?

We went to a bar in Caesar palace, and it costs $25 for two drinks.

But then, other places were much cheaper. We loved the coyote ugly bar in NYNY, that was a bit cheaper x

@LexieLulu there is a joint stag/hen of sorts on one of the days which I imagine will be the most expensive days, clubs etc. But then the rest of the time I doubt we’ll bother with clubs. The wedding and the reception include our food and drinks so we won’t be spending that day I imagine. Other than breakfast.

Have a look before you go at how much club entrance fees are?

We really didn't do that much clubbing, we are quite boring considering. We went out every night but prob only till 1am

I'd probably go for 1k/1400 dollar for the week if you're going to clubs.

I never drink at bars, just sit down at a penny slot and ask a server for a free drink. Tip around $2.

If you want to do trips or shows I would budget for that separately. Le Reve in the Wynn is my favourite.

We stayed at the MGM be warned it’s at the very end of the strip so wear good shoes. Firemont Street was much more up our alley and cheaper so make an effort to honthere. Start playing the myvegas app now we had loads of points and got done free breakfasts out if it. Eat at the man v food restaurant one night at the Lynx one meal will feed four people. Don’t buy cds tickets in advance there’s loads of good offers on the day.

@EachandEveryone I had a quick look at the myVegas app, is it gambling? Not sure how I feel about online gambling, which I know is daft as I’m going to Vegas. But I do think online gambling tends to be more addictive

I agree with thatstoast we always had a little go on the penny machines and then ordered free drinks so you just pay for the tip. You can then wonder round with your drink and watch the acts that are on in the casinos or even go for a wonder on the strip. There didn't seem to be any rules about leaving a casino and wondering round the strip with your drink either!

We’ve stayed at the mgm and the location is great. Last time we stayed at the Luxor as we got hooked up with heavily discounted rooms from a high roller we are friends with who always stays there - now that hotel is at the very end of the strip.

We gamble so probably spent £3-4K last time we went and that was food, gambling and entertainment.

We never eat lunch just breakfast and dinner and we rarely paid for drinks as we gambled every day. Nothing like getting rat arsed at 10am on free booze! Lol

We did the sunset helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon which at $400 each was pricey but worth every penny, that price was 13 years ago though.
