'Your' is NOT the same as 'You are' or 'You're'

For example : you're invited to my party,
not : your invited to my party.

Why have you put in the travel section?
Thinking of going somewhere?

Whizzz · 09/04/2007 12:54

erm....yes??

JanH · 09/04/2007 12:54

You have to name and shame for this to kick off properly though, Roseanna

Gobbledigook · 09/04/2007 12:55

Yes. And?

What's this got to do with travel?

JanH · 09/04/2007 12:55

But top marks for spelling grammar correctly

Roseanna · 09/04/2007 12:56

Whoops - I didn't know it was travel, sorry!

OP posts:
Carmenere · 09/04/2007 12:56

Well the Travel section has been lacking in pedantry recently.............

Whizzz · 09/04/2007 12:57

A classic from DSs old nursery in one of their 'trying to be poncey & failing' letters

"Our aim is to learn your children to respect their piers"

I kid you not........

fireflyfairy2 · 09/04/2007 12:57

You obviously have nothing better to worry about today....

DeviousDaffodil · 09/04/2007 12:58

Heard someon say they didn't want to be the' escape goat' anymore.
It was in a rather serios meeting, so was biting my hand not to laugh!

Roseanna · 09/04/2007 12:58

I think it's because I've got loads of worries that I'm wound up by poor grammar!!!!

OP posts:
fireflyfairy2 · 09/04/2007 13:01

Why does grammar bother you though?? I mean, enough to start a thread about it?

Jeez....

DeviousDaffodil · 09/04/2007 13:02

I have goo grammar and great spelling.
i just can't type.
Go nad patronise someone else.

SenoraPostrophe · 09/04/2007 13:04

lol at "go nad patronise someone else"

a fitting typo there.
It is a little gonad patronising to get upset about your/you're on a forum. popel type quickly. and they have fat fingers.

SenoraPostrophe · 09/04/2007 13:04

"popel". see?

DeviousDaffodil · 09/04/2007 13:05

Ahem my fingers are thin

but rubbish at remebering where all the keys are!

Roseanna · 09/04/2007 13:05

Maybe I'm just a masochist - I've had my first virtual pellet from Deviousdaffodil..

I don't know why it bothers me, it just really really does. I know that's sad...

OP posts:
NadineBaggott · 09/04/2007 13:13

you made an error oh well some people make typos

Roseanna · 09/04/2007 13:25

No it's not typos I'm talking about, they don't bother me. The one I mentioned is a common grammatical error which I see all the time on MN and I know nobody else will point it out because it's impolite to correct people's grammar. I don't feel polite today, that's why I wrote about it.

OP posts:
Roseanna · 09/04/2007 13:54

DeviousDaffodil: isn't it more patronising to assume somebody wouldn't wish to know they were making a mistake so that they could correct it?

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 09/04/2007 14:00

sometimes it is just a mistake though. I've been known to write your for you're when in a hurry and I know the difference very well.

It can be annoying, but I can think of loads of more annoying errors. Like listening to James Blunt.

GreenandBlackOtter · 09/04/2007 14:02

i just got slagged off for correcting grammar on another thread

SenoraPostrophe · 09/04/2007 14:06

"I was just" surely

GreenandBlackOtter · 09/04/2007 14:08
Blush
misdee · 09/04/2007 14:09
