£6k but we go in may and take kids put of school for a week

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 16/08/2017 18:19

This year we paid £5k for 18 nights (7 nights all inclusive, 7 nights half board, 3 nights self catering, 1 night in a hotel).

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 16/08/2017 18:27

Oops - forgot to say that was for four of us (2 adults, 2 kids) in August/September (we leave on Saturday)

BarbaraOcumbungles · 16/08/2017 18:31

This year 2.5 weeks in France in pre pitched tents and caravans £1.8k + around 2.3k spends

This is the last year we'll do France I think as although it's great the exchange rate is so bad everything has been so expensive.

We usually come to France for a week at may half term too and that costs less than a grand.

coffeealwayscoffee · 16/08/2017 18:38

Canary Islands, 2 adults and 2 children, 1 week all inclusive in oct half term; just less than £2k. Not summer holidays I know but not during term time.

This price includes pre paid seats and meals on the plane both ways too. First time abroad for kids so going all out!!

Cakesprinkles · 16/08/2017 18:38

We're in France in a cottage with a pool for 2 weeks. (3 of us) It's cost about 2.7k for cottage, 3 nights in hotels breaking up journey and going on the tunnel. I reckon we'll spend another grand on fuel and food/activities for the fortnight. We're hardly eating out at all this holiday as the exchange rate is so bad-€40 for three crepes and three drinks Shock so all in I reckon it'll be close to 4K total for everything. Two years ago we went to one of the Balearics and stayed in a hotel. Was basic and expensive-cost about 3k for a week all in, so this holiday is much better value.

ChocolateCupcake123 · 16/08/2017 18:38

In August I think you're probably looking at around £3k, and that's getting a good deal!

My advice....drive over to France and get an air bnb instead!

GraceGrape · 16/08/2017 18:40

We hire a gite in France with Brittany Ferries because it seems to be relatively inexpensive. 3 bed house for 2 weeks and ferry crossings were about £1600. Self-catering though and we are on a bit of a budget so don't eat out much so spending money, including petrol was about £800.

Sittinginthesun · 16/08/2017 18:45

We Eurocamp in France, which works out as cheap as you want really. Just had a look 14 nights for a family of four at my favourite site would be £2,400, but I can see deals at quieter sites nearby for £1,200 for 14 nights.

You need to add ferry/tunnel and food/wine, but I still think it's reasonable.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2017 18:47

August, 1 weeks for 2 adults one child. Spain. £3k next year (once I've included airport parking and spending money).

namechangedtoday15 · 16/08/2017 18:47

I'd say at least £4/5k as it's school hols and you want AI.

We can't afford that (especially when the price practically doubles on account of being a family of 5 and there's not many AI places that offer rooms for 5).

You might find booking hotel + flights separately (getting direct booking with hotel or online) works out cheaper.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2017 18:48

That's half board, not AI.

Tabymoomoo · 16/08/2017 18:55

4 of us in Spanish villa belonging to family friend who also paid for food and car hire cost us around £500 including spending money. Am shocked by the cost of proper holidays but we'll have to do this next year as villa being sold 😳 😫

leccybill · 16/08/2017 18:59

Croatia in May half term for 1 week: £1300 AI in 3* hotels

Greece in August for 10 days: £2800 AI in 5* hotels

We are 2 adults and 1 DC. It's a dear do isn't it.

Oblomov17 · 16/08/2017 19:03

Canary Islands, AI, 2wks, £3.6k and that was well cheap.

CheeseAtFourpence · 16/08/2017 19:05

1 week with a free child place in a holiday village was £3.2K. Priced it for next year and it was £3.8K.

rosy71 · 16/08/2017 19:44

We usually do Eurocamp style holidays. I wouldn't pay more than £1000 for a week plus ferry/tunnel - I use Tesco vouchers on those. I'm, amazed how much people spend.

sweetbabboo · 16/08/2017 19:47

Just under £1100 for Turkey in September. Me, DH and DS2. Price includes flights, baggage, bed & breakfast at the hotel and private transfers.

Racht22 · 16/08/2017 22:10

Thanks everyone. Think I'll just have to pay up! Shock

5 of us in school holidays in August -normally around £1000-£1300 on flights, £1500 -£1800 for 3 bed villa , car hire, spending etc for 10 nights. Probably around 5k plus -would love to be able to shave a bit off it.

SarahBeeney · 17/08/2017 23:37

I was hoping to pay about £2500 for 2 adults 2 kids all inclusive. Not looking good though as things have gone up in price since we went 2 years ago.
Turkey looks much cheaper than Canaries/Balearics etc but DP won't consider it.

ragged · 18/08/2017 00:05

Just spent £5k for 5 people over 12 days
Could not afford that every year.

MissCalamity · 18/08/2017 20:01

I've been looking at August next year for me, DP & 2 kids. It can be done for a week under £2k self catering with a free child place with Jet 2 holidays. The hotels don't look all that appealing (this is in the Costas)
I found a lovely place in Ibiza AI for £2.7k -again Jet2 may have to wait for the bonus to come through before booking anything!
All the other tour operators are really expensive!!

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 18/08/2017 21:10

During May half term we went to Antalya region of Turkey. It was £1800 for 2 adults and 2 children all inclusive plus it included our insurance and pre-paid seat allocation.

August 2018 the cost of an 11 night AI holiday for us all again in Dalaman region of Turkey (Turunc - quiet, village/small town resort 20 minutes west of Marmaris and NOT built up or bustling with drunken idiots ..) is £3,500 give or take a couple of hundred pounds either side.

TBH we found the bigger travel companies (Thomas Cook, Thomson and First Choice) notoriously expensive. Even for Turkey they were wanting a good £1,000 more and Spain was looking like £5,000 for a 4* AI resort with slides (like what we have for Turkey).

We fly with jet2holidays now. They are northern mainly (based mainly in Leeds but fly from loads of other Northern airports) but are branching out to southern airports - Stansted being one I can remember. We flew with them when we had our timeshare in Madeira and when that ended, we chose them for our European holidays.

We are going to Gran Canaria (3 adults + 2 kids) the Tuesday after Easter next year. AI for a week. £2,800 - everything.

PLUS you get 22kg of luggage and 10kg of hand luggage as standard - no extras.

Also NOT working for jet2holidays! We just have fab holidays with them! No different to Thomas Cook etc and we went with them 2014. We don't see why we should pay more money, plus extra to ensure we get 20kg of luggage when the standard is exactly the same.

leccybill · 18/08/2017 22:14

Jet2 are great - been with them countless times. I've heard they use old planes but they looked modern to me.
