This cold weather has got me dreaming of distant shores. Eight and a half years ago dh and I spent a few days in a beautiful little place called Pebbly beach between Canberra and Melbourne. It is totally unspoilt. Little sandy beach, hundreds of wild kangaroos, beautiful colorful parakeets that feed from your hand and the odd goanna lizard roaming around. We were the only tourists there and stayed in an old rundown caravan without electricity. Bliss...... Must go back have a family holiday there.

Thailand..
I stayed a few nights in Bangkok then had a week in phuket on the beach, it was fantastic.
We had a day trip to where 'the beach' was filmed and it was just paradise.

My uncle has a little place on Key West. Its adorable with gingerbreading and is right on the beach. Its the perfect place to watch the sunset.

immensely difficult to come up with just one place!!

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala was pretty special. Vast lake surrounded by active volcanoes, colourful birds, small villages.

Closer to home: the Gorges du Verdon in France. The Alps generally.

Could give you a dozen more I reckon!

South Island New Zealand in general, and the glacier area in particular. We stayed near Fox Glacier, in the morning we took a helicoptor flight around Mt Cook and then landed on the glacier, stunningly, jaw-droppingly beautiful. In the afternoon we went to a 'reflecting' lake, and although it was a slightly breezy day there were a few minutes when the wind dropped and there was absolute silence and a perfect reflection of Mt Cook in the water.

Mine was an island in the South China sea called Manukan island - absolutely wonderful.

PestoMonster · 16/03/2007 11:03

Have been to lots of fab places, and agree with Pruni about Cape Tribulation.
Other ones are;-

Dunk Island - off the coast of Mission Beach, Australia

Rottnest Island off the coast of Fremantle, near Perth, Western Australia - where you see creatures called quokkas who are really tame and cute and glorious secluded beaches.

Pigeon point, St Lucia

Scottburgh = my favourite surfing beach in South Africa

Grenada - gorgeous, the Spice Isle and monkeys come down out of the rainforest to see if you've got any food for them!

Hassled · 16/03/2007 11:05

Ravello near Amalfi in Italy. I plan to retire there!

This thread has made me realise how lucky I have been because I can't decide where is the nicest place I have visited. So just a few are:

Connemara in the west of Ireland - just gorgeous and kind of other-worldly.

Cadequez north of Barcelona - it's been nearly 20 years since I've been there and it still sticks in my mind as stunning.

St Lucia - I've just come back and the view from the terrace of the Ladera resort is a sight to behold.

Laurentians in Canada - stunning lakes and countryside.

We are so privlidged to be able to travel and see so much of our beautiful planet. Something our forfathers never even dreamed of.
