I normally start this thread every year (apologies if there has already been one -can't see one though) but where is everyone planning to go in 2017? I love to hear everyone's plans and all the interesting and lovely places you are all thinking of heading!

The States in August, taking in the solar eclipse, and the California Zephyr train which goes from Chicago to San Francisco.

Mumsnet has members from all walks of life, so some will be able to afford more holidays than others. I guess anyone who already has theirs planned out isn't in the "Just About Managing" group.

I live in SE Asia so will be staying locally except for a trip to the UK in the summer. We have booked an island holiday in Thailand for 1/2 term in Feb. Not sure where else we will go, we are thinking about Malaysia or Myanmar.

Natsku · 05/01/2017 07:31

Really wish we could go for a holiday in the sun this year but I have to fly over to the UK for sure at some point so that'll take our holidaying money. Will go up to Lapland in the summer though with my parents who will be visiting and will likely fit in a short jaunt to Estonia or Sweden at some point.

exLtEveDallas · 05/01/2017 07:32

Summer will be Greece or the Canaries (although Marrakesh is coming up as very reasonable in my searches).

If DH gets a job this year I'm going to push for Xmas in Egypt again - it was wonderful even taking our horrendous return delay into account. If he doesn't, well we won't be able to afford it :(

Natsku · 05/01/2017 07:32

I'd like to go to Thailand one year, its a popular destination from Finland so flights might not be so expensive. Maybe next year...

Natsku · 05/01/2017 07:40

MardAsSnails I suggest Finland in December as its the Centennial this year so there will be a lot of special events and suchlike going on.

duplodancer · 05/01/2017 07:43

Welsh air bnb at Easter, Isle of Wight holiday park in summer, cape cod in October.

BerylThePeril44 · 05/01/2017 07:48

Centre parks in Belgium in August. Combined with three nights in Bruges. A lovely cottage in the peak district for May half term. Very excited x

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/01/2017 07:54

DS is going travelling in August - hostels in Split, Zagreb and Budapest already booked. Very organised for eight 17 year old lads Shock. I didn't think it would come off!

DD is hoping to go Greek island hopping with friends but it will depend on when she is released from other commitments.

DH would like us to have a family holiday together before the DC go off to university/drama school. He's been googling a South Africa/Zambia/Botswana trip. But I don't know if it's actually doable and that we will find enough weeks where we are all free. Maybe we will.

DH and I are definitely going to go away together in the Autumn after DC have gone. Maybe we will do the Africa trip or maybe just lie down in MauritiusGrin.

I suspect we will also make a fair few trips to the states in the coming months too as DD will be working there.

WhatHaveIFound · 05/01/2017 07:59

I'm another one off to see the eclipse in the States this summer.

Then hoping for a big SE Asia trip over Christmas/New Year, DD and GCSE revision permitting!

Frazzled2207 · 05/01/2017 08:09

Center parcs in March.
Self catering holiday village near Bordeaux in June- first abroad holiday with 2 dc who will be 2 and 4 so not expecting any relaxation

bigkidsdidit · 05/01/2017 08:16

Loch Ness Easter

Isle of Wight June

The Dordogne August

Skiing Christmas

After years of no holidays because of childcare costs I am LOVING it now they are at school Grin

saresywaresy2 · 05/01/2017 09:38

We're going to the Scotland in the May half term - we're staying in a yurt near Fort William for 3 nights and I'd like to finish the week on Mull but as yet we haven't done anything about it.
Also having 10 nights in Andalucia in the summer - a week in a villa in Frigiliana followed by 3 nights somewhere else we don't know yet.
Overspent on hols last year and trying to be good but it seriously interferes with the holiday planning :-(

LondonHuffyPuffy · 05/01/2017 10:44

GetAHaircutCarl your Africa trip sounds wonderful. I really, really want to go to Botswana.

If you go in the Autumn, you might want to consider starting or finishing in the Western Cape and go to Hermanus, which is a couple of hours outside Cape Town. It's whale watching season then. The town has a Whale Crier! Like a town crier but who lets you know when the whales are swimming past). It's amazing. I also thoroughly recommend going shark diving further down the coast in Gansbaai, but make sure you research the company you go with as some are quite unethical and feed the sharks (which is bad) to make them come close to the boat

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/01/2017 11:09

Thank you london that sounds so cool!

JanuaryIsTheNewMonday · 05/01/2017 11:13

Costa Rica - really looking forward to it

Bobochic · 05/01/2017 12:07

Annual family pilgrimage ski trip to Val d'Isere in February. Somewhere hot, still under discussion, in April. Am in process of booking a month's summer camp (German and Film) for DD in July. I want to stay in France in August - it's so much the best month on the Atlantic coast that's it's sad to miss it - but might do a side trip to the Cyclades for ten days.

ineedwine99 · 05/01/2017 12:12

Us west coast in June, New Zealand in Dec

Fintress · 05/01/2017 14:09

Still trying to decide. Husband off soon for 3 weeks to other side of the world (my choice not to go). Top of our list is India and Nepal then Abu Dhabi for a week's rest on way back. Knee deep in quotes and brochures.

justnippingin · 05/01/2017 16:52

St Ives, Cornwall early August, DD and I. I'm another astounded by all these hols, I'm a single parent so not much cash at all but you guys are serious holiday goer's!

NancyJoan · 05/01/2017 16:54

St Ives in May, New Quay Wales in July, hopefully abroad at Easter, but nothing booked yet.

TheUpsideDown · 05/01/2017 17:48

Lac de Chalain in Eastern France, with Eurocamp at the end of this June (bought with a Groupon voucher)

Not nearly as classy and luxurious as most of the other posters destinations, but DH and I haven't had a proper holiday in around 7 years. In the last 7 years we've only been able to afford (by the skin of our teeth) 3 weekends away camping in an English field in the middle of nowhere making our own fun.

This France holiday will be our 4 yr old DS's first proper holiday - we're all super excited! And we chose our destination after lots of lovely advice from other Mumsnetters, when I couldn't decide on the location Grin

Can't wait

MotherOfDragon · 05/01/2017 18:20

Copenhagen in Feb, Lisbon in march, Rome in April, Lanzerote in June and Seville in Aug.

God that's a lot!!!

MardAsSnails · 06/01/2017 17:54

natsku thanks for the info - I'll concentrate my research on Finland then!

SirChenjin · 06/01/2017 19:20

South Wales in the summer, never been and really looking forward to it. Don't know about the rest of the year yet, will see what we can get booked.
