Where to eat in Richmond London with 5yr old and 2yr old ?

Hello London Dwellers.
We are visiting your quaint little village next week during our half term. Thinking of visiting Kew Gardens, The Butterfly House and Natural History Museum(over 3 days). But where to eat in the evening apart form Pizza hut(yuk)? Ds is 2 and can be "challenging" when we are out in restaurants. Is there a family type place that serves nice food in the Richmond area. Any ideas gratefully received.

Do you have to eat in Richmond? you could eat in the NHM - it's got a reasonable cafe, but you have to queue.

2nervesleft · 15/02/2007 11:20

NHM? You will have to enlighten me UQD.

Giraffe near the Richmond cinema on the hill

There is a Pizza Express (if you prefer that to Pizza Hut) 5 min walk from Kew Gardens nr Kew Gardens tube

Yes what is NHM - am a Kew liver and never heard of it!

Just realised "Natural History Museum"

PeachesMcLean · 15/02/2007 11:23

Natural History Museum?

UnquietDad · 15/02/2007 11:24

sorry - Natural History Museum

I just re-read and realised you're going over 3 days, though, so ignore me!

PeachesMcLean · 15/02/2007 11:24

Snap!

I know Fio, but if there was another place that sold Pizza for the kids and something edible for Dh and me then we would all be happy! We live in South Wales and our options are limited. Thought we could expand our options in the capital.

Giraffe is excellent with kids and if you can find their websits and join their mailing list I think they may email you a two main course for the price of one offer (don;t know if that is still running.

Are you staying locally or doing day trips?

2nervesleft · 15/02/2007 11:25

Duh - sorry, no excuses am thick.

Ooh I'm from South Wales originally (Llanelli)

2nervesleft · 15/02/2007 11:29

Bore da Sue.

I'm in Neath. I worked in Llanelli for the last 6 years. Now work in Carmarthen.

they have their own website too

suejonez · 15/02/2007 11:30

Bore da, sh'mae?

I lived in Llanelli from 7 - 18 then went to uni n Cardiff. My dads family are still their - if it means anything to you they used to own the Stradey Park Hotel back in the 60's and 70's (before it was sold to whoever owns it now)

suejonez · 15/02/2007 11:31

there you go

castlesintheair · 15/02/2007 11:31

Strada on Richmond Hill is good

Pizza al Rollo - my DS (5) went there with some friends & they made their own pizzas.

The Greenhouse in Kew Village (v. near Kew Gardens)

Cafe in Kew Gardens near Climbers & Creepers

2nervesleft · 15/02/2007 11:43

Thanks Sue have joined Giraffes website.

Will look into those castle. Need to eat out at least 3 evenings and 4 lunch so I need plenty of options. Was planning to eat in Kew and BH and NHM for lunches.

Have to take ds to park now so thanks for all your help and any other thoughts are still welcome.

wagamamas is great, has kids menu as well ( opposite Waterstones)

Giraffe is nice
Gormet Burger - not sure if they have child size portions, am sure they would have. Burgers are fab. Just across road and up a bit from Giraffe

Wheelybug · 15/02/2007 11:58

I like tootsies

Lots of room for children and has a lovely view over the river.

suejonez · 15/02/2007 12:07

Catles I don;t think the Greenhouse is open in the evening though if you're having early dinner with the kids it might be open late enough for you. I don;t think they're particularly child friendly myself.

You can;t book Gourmet Burger - if they'e busy you have to queue not great with a 2yr old. But again if you're going arly unlikely to wait

sfxmum · 15/02/2007 12:09

the giraffe and wagamama get my vote

suejonez · 15/02/2007 12:09

OOh can we come too - I like Giraffe and Wagamama

decafskinnylatte · 15/02/2007 12:14

giraffe/Wagamama/Gourmet burger/Pizza Express (ponce pizzahut) all tried & tested & been back for more w/ my lot (4 and nearly 2).
