Would you go to Tunisa??

I have found a really good deal for a week all inclusive to Tunisa but DH is worried about going there because he thinks we will get shot or something if we leave the resort. MIL has also said something similar. I really want to go and so do the kids.

My work colleague has just come back from there yesterday. She loved it. The hotel looked lovely too.

rofl

I'll be perfectly honest, I went there about five years ago and didn't enjoy it at all, but that was because we went on the cheap to a really crappy hotel, right in the middle of nowhere, so there was hardly anything to do outside of the hotel, unless you wanted to pay loads extra for the tours.

If I did it again I would make sure that the hotel was in a more populated area with things to do nearby!

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:19

this is the hotel

It says the link has expired!

Seriously I'm sure you'll have a good time.

I just have memories of dh and I sat in the hotel bar night after night after night with sod all to do!!! The weather was lovely and we got to read a lot of books, but we could have done that anywhere hot.

Where abouts is the hotel, is it in a city?

I would go - infact went last october for 2 weeks and last night booked to go this october. It is a fab place - but make sure you get a good hotel.

When are you thinking of going and what ages are the children?

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:44

december, just so it give me time to get the money together. deposit is only £200 atm. Anyway DS will be 10, and the girls will be 7 and 6.
Is the weather still ok in december.
Have added a link further down of the hotel.

Why do you think you might get shot?

cori · 06/02/2007 11:46

No, tunisia is really safe. They have strict gun control and dont tolerate fanatics either. Go have a grea time.

themoon66 · 06/02/2007 11:46

Unlikely to get shot I would have thought. We went to cairo last year around the time some suicide bomber set himself off. I enjoyed the holiday and tbh you can have problems anywhere in the world, what with dangerous swimming pools, salmonella, dodgy hire cars etc.

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:46

I don't, but I think he just worried about going outside his 'safety box' lol. We have only been abroad once before and that was to mencora.
People have told him that you can;t leave the resorts and if you do you will get shot. I think people have been telling porkies lol

MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 11:46

no you won't get shot - probably safer than London, although I wouldn't wear a bikini or anything similarly revealing outside the resort complexes as Tunisia is a Muslim country.

yu might want to read some reviews of the hotel first though - try tripadvisor

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:47

good to know, that they are very tight on gun control.
I remember coming through the airport at menorca and DH freaking because they had big guns...

It's not bad weatherwise most of the year, but into November it does start to get cooler and also it gets dark quickly and early. I go in October, last year it was 35 degrees, but not a problem.

travel advice from the FCO from 6th January

No idea why there is a high threat of terrorism though

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:50

mmmm mixed reviews there.

Gingerbear · 06/02/2007 11:52

woops, wrong page

MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 11:52

'High threat of terrorism' is because it's a Muslim country that makes a lot of money from pandering to Western tourists, which doesn't go down well with all sections of the population - same as Egypt.

SparklyGothKat · 06/02/2007 11:53

My mum told me that you have to cover your shoulders, if you leave the resort. Which is fine by me.
