Just back from holiday there, first time on any Balearic Island for all of us.

I just loved it.
I am now looking at holiday lets for the October school week Grin

How did I not know about this magical island??
Confused

I also found a wonderful property available to buy for a mere 5.8 million Euros Grin. V nice it is too. I may start playing the lottery….

beatrice, apologies about the delayed reply - I forgot about my own thread Blush (I think it's time to ask MNHQ to move it to 'Shorthaul')

We like self-catering holidays so booted through HomeAway again.
Villa, no pool, west coast, shingly beach in walking distance and decent roads for DH to cycle on.
Come on, October! Grin

We have booked a trip to Alcudia for next May. I read up on weather averages and apparently it's usually about 23/24 degrees, does that sound about right? Hoping the sea will be warmer to swim in than the Atlantic / Portugal where we've been the last 2 years.

"We have been to Puerto pollensa for years and years. It is the most perfect holiday destination for us, before and after children. No nightclubs, just lovely bars and restaurants. Little Italy for a takeaway pizza, Formentor Store for a coffee and sandwich, an ice cream along the pine walk at 10pm ....."

tedmundo - the above pretty much sums up our holidays in Puerto Pollensa too. We always go to Little Italy for lunch on our last day before being picked up to go back to the airport and have many photos of the children actually crying into their pizza because they don't want to go home!

Just for general info, we stay at the Puerto Azul hotel but we have three children and if you book it via a U.K. tour operator they will make you take two rooms (won't allow more than 2 children in a room). However if you book using a site such as booking.com or alpharooms for two adults and two children you can then just email the hotel to request an extra bed for a third child and pay for that on arrival. The hotel are happy to allow three children in a room even if Jet2 and Thomson aren't!

Pacific Thank you for starting this thread. Partly inspired by it I have booked two weeks in Puerto Pollensa next summer. Really wanted somewhere in the mountains but Soller etc were a bit expensive. Thanks for recommending HomeAway too. I spent ages emailing owners through various websites and kept getting prices far higher than initially advertised. But I had another look on HomeAway and have got a nice apartment that we can afford.

Am going to go through this thread for all the Puerto Pollensa recommendations and look forward to next July. Can't wait.

Well, we're just back from Llucalcari - bliss!
Small hamlet 2 km away from Deia, houses stuck to the cliffside at impossible angles, v much off the beaten track.
Autumn has arrived in Mallorca in the last couple of days (rain, temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees) but it was gorgeous and very restful.
And - we are Scottish, so we can dig amazing sandcastles and harbours in the rain Grin

Now looking at even more remote places for Summer 2017 - Cala Tuent appeals....

We've just arrived in pp and I'm pleasantly surprised at the weather. Played in the unheated pool for an hour or so Wink

Jungfraujoch · 25/10/2016 21:30

Pacific can I ask where you found your place in Llucalcarli? Sounds idyllic - I'm looking for next summer. Thinking Port de Soller so don't need a car.

PacificDogwod · 25/10/2016 21:57

We used HomeAway - seems to be a reasonable website.
We had to pay our balance in cash to the owners on arrival which seemed a bit odd, but it all worked out fine.

I really liked Port de Soller.
Look at Cap Gosh if you are looking for peace and quiet - it's at the southern part of the Port of Soller bay and really pretty with some lovely houses on it.

I do of course now want to live on Mallorca forever and ever, but will need to win the Euromillions first.... Grin

Thanks Pacific - I have looked on there quickly - I get bored trawling through everything, but I guess that's how you find the gems!!

But there are some fabulous places if you have the money!

PacificDogwod · 25/10/2016 22:06

Oh, I found something lovely in Cala Tuent (VERY remote) for £14k for next summer Grin

Like I said, Euromillions....

Yes, you do need to trawl, but I find filtering helps make it less soul destroying, so set number of bedroom/WiFi/pool or whatever your requirements are before you click 'search'.

After a lot of searching last night I've found a few possibilities, emailed the owners and awaiting replies. Had one reply for an apartment up the hill in Port de Soller which looks nice and we could manage without a car there.

Any other recommendarions around the island welcomed!! Thank you.

Jungfraujoch · 27/10/2016 14:27

Still waiting for owners to,reply - frustrating!!

Jungfraujoch · 31/10/2016 12:16

Still looking, some places have turned out to be not quite right for various reasons and a cup,e of others STILL haven't replied so have emailed again. If anyone has specific recommendations please let me know!!

Missanneshirley · 01/11/2016 23:24

Now got jet 2 ads on my mn page!
Has anyone been to paguera? Been to lots of places in mallorca but never there and have seen a nice hotel!

BarbaraofSeville · 02/11/2016 11:58

I have Shirley. Found it by accident after visiting Port Andrax which was a bit 'Yacht club' for us. Lovely beaches, great snorkelling, nice family/couples resort, not clubby or loud, close to Cala Fornells, tiny little beach.

Relatively few people from the UK go there and almost everyone else is German - so resort is primarily aimed at German people but there are still lots of tapas restaurants and Spanish food - both DP and I really like it.

Mirandawest · 02/11/2016 12:33

Can someone more knowledgeable help me please? Looking to visit Mallorca next summer with DH, DS who's 13 and DD who's 11. Have no idea about locations although we will hire a car but any suggestions on somewhere would be great. We'll be looking for a villa with its own pool, but would like to have a water park somewhere we could visit.

Also any knowledge on which airlines may or may not be better or worse than each other would be good. We're obviously going at peak time so realise it won't be cheap

beatricequimby · 02/11/2016 20:08

Like your name Miranda.

We haven't actually been yet but we are going next summer and two of my DC are the same age as yours. I have spent hours researching Mallorca.

I think anywhere along the Northern coast looks pretty and unspoilt eg Soller, Fornatlux or down to Pollensa. We are going to Puerto Pollensa which looks a bit more resorty but hopefully still nice and is cheaper. I would have preferred Soller but it was too expensive for us.

I think there are 3 water parks, a smaller one around Alcudia and two near Palma. Mine have never been to a waterpark so we will do the Alcudia one as it looks fine to me. Not sure if the other ones might have adults going to Magaluf and would rather avoid that.

Millimat · 02/11/2016 21:42

I got back yesterday. Amazing weather considering it was the end of October! It was lovely.
Anyone visiting needs to take time to see portals nous. Wow! If you have a spare few million it's the place to go.

Mirandawest · 02/11/2016 22:17

Thank you Beatrice - I like yours too Smile I think I am more of a Beatrice than a Ramona Grin.

I think I need to do more research but your thoughts are very helpful.

Mirandawest · 03/11/2016 17:34

Have bought plane tickets Smile

Missanneshirley · 03/11/2016 21:32

Thanks Barbara! Sadly once I looked on trip advisor the reviews put me off the hotel but the resort looks a good option

beatricequimby · 03/11/2016 22:07

How exciting Miranda! It is lovely to have something to look forward to. Any idea about where you want to stay yet?

I went to Waterstones today and looked at all the Mallorca guidebooks. Can't buy any yet as the holiday is a surprise for the dc and I don't want them to see a guidebook lying around. Am planning to tell them the evening before they go back to school after Christmas, when the tree is down and it seems like there is nothing to look forward to.

Jungfraujoch · 15/11/2016 14:40

Just popping back on to say we've booked 2 weeks in a fantastic apartment in an old Manor House in Alaro, central Majorca! We can walk out of the grounds directly into the town and the second week we are there is fiesta time so will be fun!! Oh, found it on Airbnb.

Mirandawest · 17/11/2016 13:59

Am trying to decide where we might stay. Have decided to ask DSS and his gf to come as well so looking for a villa with 4 bedrooms and with a pool. I think near the coast somewhere but that doesn't really narrow it down too much. Would be nice to have somewhere where we could walk to civilisation I think.

MiniCooperLover · 29/12/2016 16:54

Can anyone who has been in the past late May/early June give me some guidance re weather? We had our holiday last year in Portugal when school broke up late July but it was boiling, but now I'm worried May half term will be too cool? 25/26 is a good temp for me? Thank you
