Thank you both. The illa d'or hotel looks lovely. I did some researching last night and i really fancy Puerto Pollensa or port de Soller I think. However I showed dh the tram from Soller to port de Soller and now I don't think I can get away from it. He thought it was awesome! Thinking of booking three nights there somewhere and maybe a night or two in Palma. Any recsfor hotels in port de Soller and Palma?

augustwashout · 02/08/2016 16:17

Pollensa is more touristy whereas soller is also touristy but feels like a home where people live all year

PacificDogwod · 02/08/2016 16:23

The tram is very very cute and goes right along the water's edge in Port de Soller.

We are now looking at Fornalutx, and also a house in the middle of nowhere, 1 hrs drive from anywhere…. it looks gorgeous but maybe a little TOO isolated? What if I forget a pint of milk and then have to risk my life again on v twisty and steep roads with sheer drop-offs, simply to get to the shops?! Shock

soller or porto soller and your set and can travel everywhere from there.

Stillwaitingforthesummer2come · 02/08/2016 16:38

I also went, like pp, tho calas de Mallorca about 25 years ago and have films memories, so am gutted to hear it's not great now.
Of to in between alcudia and pollensa in October. Is a risk weather wise, but also a cheap holiday so glad to hear that the sea will be quite warm!

Noofly · 02/08/2016 16:55

Please book Soller or Port de Soller so you can come back and tell me all about it. Grin Our villa for next summer is supposed to be a 10 minute walk from the town centre so if you do book that area I will be happy to hear about any recommended restaurants etc!

I have an apartment in Puerto Pollensa. It's in a fab location just off the Pinewalk,
on Calle de la Talaia, they are 3 bedroom and it's a lovely small block with a nice decking area and large communal pool. Air conditioning throughout the apartments, closer to town and more modern than the popular Bellresguard development which is just a bit further along Calle formentor. There are quite a few nice apartments in the boquer area if you fancy an alternative to a hotel but like the north side of Puerto Pollensa close to the Pinewalk.

Donthate · 02/08/2016 22:27

Captain I am looking for an apartment next year for 3 weeks from 22 July, could you pm me details? Thanks!

BagelGoesWalking · 03/08/2016 17:14

I'm going to Port de Soller in 2 weeks - because of this thread - so will report back! Grin

superbfairywren · 03/08/2016 17:20

Ooh, look forward to hearing back about port de Soller. I found a few gorgeous hotels in Soller and port de Soller but probably a bit out of our price range unfortunately. So many nice places there though. I'm still searching and going a bit holiday blind!!

ohisawthat · 03/08/2016 19:10

Superb - if you end up in Soller or Port de Soller, make sure that as well as the tram, you link up with the Orange Train which runs from Soller to Palma - terrific little trip!

Bagel - you should see the cathedral, walk along the waterfront, maybe have a look at the Arab Baths, just strolling around the old city is wonderful and if it is your sort of thing, the covered market (Mercat dl'Olivar) is well worth a look - fantastic displays of all sorts of food!

BagelGoesWalking · 03/08/2016 19:15

Ooooh ohisawthat are all these places in Palma? It sounds right up my street. Was already wondering if to take a day to go to Palma mid-week.

Could go very last day as we have a very late flight but don't know where I would leave my suitcase, as check-in would only be about 10pm.

Bagel When we were in Mallorca we also had a late flight. We spent the last day in Palma and were able to leave our luggage at the left luggage at the train station (3 years ago so don't know if it's still there- found it via Google).

We're going to do a day in Palma when we are in Soller, planning on going by train and back by bus.

ridiculouspirate · 03/08/2016 20:05

Pp is lovely we were there again this year. :)

Santa Eulalia (sp) in Ibiza is nice. Felt a bit similar to Puerto Pollença, quiet ish, marina, few nice restaurants.

I always try and speak Spanish too. I have learned to notice if they're not actually local though since I ordered carefully in the canary Islands once v and the waitress was from Leeds. ..Blush

ridiculouspirate · 03/08/2016 20:07

I loved Cala san Vicente too, it's quite a little place though.

ohisawthat · 03/08/2016 20:13

Yes, Bagel all in Palma - I think it is a lovely city and well worth visiting. DH and I had 3 days right in the city a couple of years ago, went for a day when we were there in June and I've been plotting to go again in September, but might not be able to stretch to that! And you're staying in Port de Soller (beautiful place - sunset over the bay is stunning) so you could do the tram and the orange train! (Although that might be a bit tight with luggage!).

I might just have convinced myself we can stretch to it in September after all.............

Zhx3 · 03/08/2016 23:11

Belleende I might have just the place for you! We've just returned from Majorca, a party of 8 adults and 5 children - we stayed near Alcudia, lovely villa (although air con wasn't great), pool, play area for the kids with swings etc., and literally across the road from the beach! Will pm you.

BagelGoesWalking · 04/08/2016 00:13

Thank you so much ohisawthat and Noofly for all the info. Great help Grin

It looks like we'll be busy...

SpaceUnicorn · 04/08/2016 19:38

I fly out tomorrow Smile

Me too space!!!! Majorca is a wonderful place! X

Underparmummy · 08/08/2016 13:29

We have just come back from Puerto Pollensa too. I loved it. Best holiday ever, we made some lovely family memories. Now searching for next years villa!!

Underparmummy · 08/08/2016 13:32

We will go back to PP as DH loves being able to have a break from driving. It is quite commercial but the beach is great, there are loads of restaurants/cafes/tat shops etc which keeps kids happy.

Looking for a slightly quieter area at night though - thinking Llenaire.

velmadinkly · 08/08/2016 14:40

I too also love Majorca (Mallorca). I've been back a week from Cala Bona at a Thomson Platinum hotel. We need a kids club for DD as she's an only child, so this way we can guarantee 1) a break; and 2) they'll be other kids to make friends with.

For the last two years we went to Sa Coma, which is nice, but in my opinion, not as nice as Cala Bona. For those of you going to Sa Coma, walk down the beach prom/path with the beach on your LHS and you'll get to S'Illot. It's a bit more cosmopolitan compared to Sa Coma.

For a few years when DD was happy with a bucket and spade, we went to Alcudia Port which we absolutely loved and Cala Bona reminds me of this part of the island. We've also been to Cala D'or, which was again nice, but not anywhere where I'd be upset if I didn't go again.

We have already booked to go back to Cala Bona for next year, because I like the fact there are two resorts in one, because a 20 minutes walk gets you to Cala Millor. A bonus of the long pathway from Cala Bona to Sa Coma is the long walks on an evening which both DH and I love. We have to cajoule DD with promise of an icecream along with way. Grin
