get a job then, you know you want to

Blandmum · 14/01/2007 15:48

Well, I did have 4 holidays last year, but they were all in tents, and some cost me as little as £66 for a week (in the school hols, natch!)

HuwEdwards · 14/01/2007 15:58

yes, boastful bar stewards

Blandmum · 14/01/2007 15:59

I would estimate that the 4 of ours cost less than one holiday for some posters .Less than £200 a week for the 4 of us

unknownrebelbang · 14/01/2007 16:04

mmmm, we're having three this year (not that I've mentioned it on here until now, lol).

One is Duinrell at Easter (thanks MB for the info you provided) and two Sun breaks..

All in the school holidays too, lol.

And all a far cry from the Baltic cruise last year...

Blandmum · 14/01/2007 16:06

oops, forgot duinrell. 5 holidays last year.

Coy you may slap me

motherinferior · 14/01/2007 16:07

No, but the 'night away with DH' ones do, on account of someone to leave their kids with.

unknownrebelbang · 14/01/2007 16:09

Yeah, actually I AM jealous of those, lol.

filthymindedvixen · 14/01/2007 16:10

I get jealous as I now realise I underestimated how much more expensive things would be when you are tied to feckin school hols.
It's a cruel irony than when they are tiddlers, it all seems like much more hard work (pushcairs to pack, potties to take, stressing over how child freiewndly somewhere would be, and the little darlings used to wake up at 5am. Now they are a civilised age - all they need is their toothbrushes and their nintendo and they'll go anywhere...but we can't afford it

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2007 16:12

Oi, I am one of the 'night with dh' ones! We don't have 3 holidays a year though.

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2007 16:13

and I know I'm VERY lucky to have someone to leave the children with. MI, you'd be most welcome to leave those gorgeous girls with me anytime while you swank off to somewhere swanky with your dp.

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2007 16:14
Jimjams2 · 14/01/2007 16:14

yeah I don't go on them.

100PerCentCod · 14/01/2007 16:55

my mil is begging us to go away.

but we HAVE to save some money.

We have 3 holidays and loads of short breaks. Our short breaks tend to be with friends though, so work out a lot cheaper. The holidays are generally 1 in Cornwall at Easter, 1 camping in Cornwall in the summer and a week in a caravan in France in the summer.

It's my preference though. I don't spend very much at all on clothes and would rather save the money for weekends away.

motherinferior · 14/01/2007 17:31
filthymindedvixen · 14/01/2007 17:32

our short breaks are all camping and festivals tbh, and we have a collection of useful friends who live in lovely touristy parts of Northumberland, Cornwall, Bath and Wales who we can usually cadge some accomodation off if we need a little hol. Our main holiday has been Cornwall for last 3 years and will happily go there this summer.

RubberDuck · 14/01/2007 17:33

We'll be having 2 main holidays and about 4 weekends away this year - like martianbishop, all camping in the UK so the combined cost will STILL be far less than we worked out a week in Spain would cost the four of us in flights alone during the summer hols...

brimfull · 14/01/2007 17:37

We can afford ,just, to have one nice holiday a yr.I also must fit in a trip home to see my family in Canada so we could never afford anymore trips.I am also

Dottydot · 14/01/2007 17:44

We're kind of having 3 holidays this year and a weekend away without the kids!!

Hol. 1 = week with MIL and FIL = cheapo - v. nice cottage in Suffolk but it's cheap as chips down there - in the whit hols.

Hol 2 = lovely few days in North Devon with friends = also cheapo - bless them, we just have to pay for food.

Hol 3 = long weekend in my Mum in the Lake District somewhere - big family do for her 60th so we're all splitting the cost and hopefully I've managed to blag a place from someone at work which should cost all of about £100 between 10 of us!!!

2 nights away with dp will be the most expensive one. I'm fancying here It's not too expensive - and Bea, if you read this don't tell dp as (a) it's going to be surprise and (b) we won't be going if I can't save up the money between now and July, oh yes and (c) I haven't actually cleared it with the grandparents yet...

Very excited about all of the above and am frantically putting money into various tins to make sure there's enough spends, as well as a tin already earmarked for Christmas 2007!

filthymindedvixen · 14/01/2007 17:45

at you being so organised Dottydot!

hmm I know what you mean, cod, but then I pull myself up short and feel a bit sorry that people are spending lots of money on a hotel etc for a weekend break.

The one upside of not having MIL or family near us in London is that they live in nice parts of Devon, so it doesn't break the bank to have three or four holidays a year.

But this is the year I will start driving our VW camper van, I have promised myself I will. It is my 2007 resolution. I am petrified of doing it, but I will for the sake of the weekends away we can have. Dh has finally come round to the idea of me driving it, so it's all up to me, now.

100PerCentCod · 14/01/2007 18:15

no i mean nnot like tents
