Honeymoon suggestions - where did you go?

Ok so i just got married on Saturday just gone, and now we're thinking about our honeymoon...thinking we could book it for next year to coincide with our 1st wedding anniversary....

BUT we are stuck for ideas!

We want to make it count, we want it to be memorable, as we don't get to go away very often and our lovely wedding guests were generous enough to give is enough money as a good starting point for a decent holiday.

Amy suggestions for a good place to honeymoon? Where did you go?

(We'd like to avoid areas of political unrest or terrorist threats please!)

We got married and had our honeymoon in Cancun at the Royal Cancun hotel. It was absolute bliss and I would love to be able to go back and celebrate a anniversary there. You've actually just prompted me to check it out on trip advisor and it looks like it has doubled in size since we were there in 2009.

South Africa and Mauritius. Wonderful. Combined a few days in Cape Town with a safari before heading off for a week on the beach.

You wont want to know where I went on honeymoon - it was yuck!

However, I have met couples on honeymooon in South Africa, Argentina, Zambia and several other safari and beach combos. It would be winter in SA next summer but I do think safaris make memorable honeymoon trips. The garden route in SA (Cape Town to Port Elizabeth) is great in October when you may well see whales at Hermanus and then you can fly up to Kruger from Port Elizabeth. It is good value at the moment too. Cape Town has brilliant places to stay and the guest houses along the garden route are numerous and fantastic. You would be well looked after. Have a great time planning.

We went to Vegas, partied hard. Then a week in Hawaii where we relaxed. Ended it in LA.

Very memorable

Based around TV box sets! Washington DC (West Wing), Boston (Boston Legal), New York (can't even remember) and...Baltimore (The Wire).

Got to say Baltimore didn't quite work but the rest was great fun.

We went to Eastern Canada and was best trip ever.

My dream honeymoon is hopping around Italy, Croatia and Greece.

South Africa is just stunning, we live here and meet a lot of honeymooning couples here.

We were in Zanzibar over Easter and met a couple who were doing 2 weeks in South Africa and a week in Zanzibar, which I thought was pretty cool.

Cambodia and Vietnam would also be up there on my list. Loads to do, some gorgeous resorts/hotels for relaxation and not common as a honeymoon destination compared to Thailand or Bali.

We went to Egypt. I wouldn't recommend it at the moment

The Maldives!!!! It was bliss! Definitely recommend it!

La Reunion... proper escapism,only met one other British couple in 3 weeks!

Bali and Lombok - it was amazing

We went to Sandals in the Bahamas - wouldn't recommend it. Given the choice, I would choose the Maldives or Captiva Island in Florida.

Actually, revising my previous choice to Pulau Tioman.

Such a stunning place and so relaxing.

Also went to Mexico, you get a lot for your money, it is stunningly beautiful, amazing service, nothing to dislike

We went to the Seychelles. Bit of a cliche - everyone else was on honeymoon there. But it was very lovely.

Lake Como

We went to Australia, week in Sydney and then week in the whitsundays - Hamilton Island. Was a gorgeous honeymoon.

A friend though went to Italy - sorrento, Capri etc. looked amazing if you dont want long distance!

Iceland - it was amazing!

Malaysia; Kuala Lumpar for a few days followed by Langkawi which was idyllic!

We did a week on an island in Thaikand, then flew to China and took the train from Beijing to Moscow.

5 days, 1st class, nothing to do but talk, shag, read and stare out the window. Such fun and totally different to any other holiday we've had together

One absolutely blissful week in Santorini. Amazing

Not my honeymoon , but am just back from Malaysia on holiday, and Penang is a brilliant place to go - the food in particular is amazing.

Friends have gone to South Africa, Canada and Indonesia too.

Bali - gorgeous and so many different things to do.
