Keycamp/Eurocamp - are they all the same?

I mean are they all busy, crowded, close together and noisy?

To give you an idea, we went here last summer (2005) and didn't enjoy it.

I am wondering about N France next summer as it would (hopefully) be cooler. Would like to visit France but can't stand above about 28 degrees (me or DH). I'm wondering if we'd find a nice, quiet campsite but still a few things for kids to do. Not fussed about club, etc.

Or should we just stay at home?

we re off to le garangeoire

aDadOnMumsnet · 16/11/2006 18:18

it's all about the site and the area isn't it. Some sites in more popular areas will definitely get really busy in peak season.

If you want cooler you could always go in the lower season if you are able to. You get some amazing prices off-season.

Or else N France does sound like your cup of tea as the weather isn't that different to here.

Depend what time you go tbh however I would avoid large campsites, the brochure can tell you how many pitches, I would also avoid those with small pitches. Personally I would also avoid most campsites in teh middle of summer!!

I went here last year under my own steam and thought it was fab.

However it is in the middle of no-where, very hilly, very beautiful and a lot of dutch people which was fine except my kids wanted a few more english kids to play with. It is a brilliant place for boys or older kids (mine were 5 and 7) as the pool and slides were fab, there are climbing and brill adventure things to do too. It was hot (we went during that heatwave) but as it is in teh hills the evenings cooled down nicely. The piches were large too.

We have also been here for the Whitsun week and LOVED it I would almost say this was the best sire we've ever been to and my kids want to go back. Again inland been less crowds, but the Loire does get busy in high season. Everywhere does.

Try looking at half term Whitsun week as you can get great bargains and it is not so busy.

Gillian76 · 16/11/2006 19:48

Has to be July. School holidays and I need to get away!

I agree, stick with the smaller sites in high season. I've been to the one in the Loire that Crunchie recommends and it is lovely, but we went at the tail end of the season when it was virtually empty, so I can't vouch for it in high season.

Or try the ones a bit off the obvious tourist track - in Burgundy or on the edges of the Loire perhaps.

Gillian76 · 16/11/2006 19:58

Don't want to go too far south as we're wimps in the heat. Also will probably go Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry so not too long a drive if poss.

Actually we could try Holland, but can't speak the lingo...

OP posts:
crunchie · 16/11/2006 20:00

Loire is lovely as it isn't beachy, not too hot either.

How old are your kids?

crunchie · 16/11/2006 20:01

The one we went to this year was not usually as hot as it was, even though it was further south.

mrsflowerpot · 16/11/2006 20:01

shameful though it is, you won't need to in Holland... That would be nice though - lots to do and day trips to Amsterdam etc.

What about Luxembourg? V pretty and Luxembourg city is gorgeous as I recall, v fairy tale.

Gillian76 · 16/11/2006 20:10

Kids will be 7, (almost)6 and 4
