Keycamp/Eurocamp - are they all the same?

I mean are they all busy, crowded, close together and noisy?

To give you an idea, we went here last summer (2005) and didn't enjoy it.

I am wondering about N France next summer as it would (hopefully) be cooler. Would like to visit France but can't stand above about 28 degrees (me or DH). I'm wondering if we'd find a nice, quiet campsite but still a few things for kids to do. Not fussed about club, etc.

Or should we just stay at home?

Hmmm I am sorely tempted, but Cod do you think4 pairs of sparkly stilettos is too much for one girl??

I have the Red and the brown KurtGeigers (I wear the brown to work under trs) I also have plain black sequin stillettos for my black trs suit. I have green suede ones with peeptoes and flowers see office and they are now reduced to £30.

So do I really NEED the leopard sequin ones too?

We own a caravan on a Siblu site in the Vendee in France which we use in summer and sometimes let out to family and friends.

We bought it after having done French Life, Keycamp, Eurocamp and 2 canvas holidays and to be honest its the best thing we have ever done.

The kids clubs are fab 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in the afternoon followed by evening entertainment for them. I took 4 kids 7 and under away last summer with no help from Dh who didn't have the holidays and never stressed about it.

I would say go for it if you can and there are some great ferry deals to be had if you look for them. The cheapest I have found is £75 each way in July on DL LInes from Protsmouth to Le Havre

KTeePee · 04/01/2007 10:07

Would you say it is cheaper to book the ferry seperately from the mobile home? We are also thinking of going to France this summer but have never done this type of holiday before....

slalomsuki · 04/01/2007 10:40

My experience is that it is cheaper to book it yourself if you can and also if you can go midweek to midweek on a camping holiday you can get some great deals on the ferries. If you can use ferries outside of the mainstream ie Dover Calais and Portsmouth Caen/Plymouth then you can get some good deals. Also if you travel overnight on some of them they are cheaper than during the day.....I haven't done that but have considered it.

There is a cheap ferry which goes Newhaven Dieppe which was doing a £149 return for daytime crossings last year.

We stayed at La Baume near Frejus with Keycamps - last minute trip in a tent. If we'd booked through the site we could have got a brand new mobile home for less than our tent. Thinking of doing it for a couple of weeks in the summer and dh can commute from Nice airport instead of Heathrow.

Skribble · 05/01/2007 22:24

Anyone stayed in any of the Itlaian sites.

slalomsuki · 12/01/2007 13:27

It is worth booking through the site.

Our site does 8 bed mobile for E59 per night in July and they are about £95 in the UK.

KTeePee · 12/01/2007 13:43

So if I get a few brochures (Keycamp, etc) and find a site I like, I should be able to get details on the internet for the site and be able to book direct?

sievehead · 13/01/2007 19:49

Yes thats what we did. Been camping in France for years , more recently with the kids - there is a lovely in the dorodogne region (fab food) called Le Paradis in St Leon sur Vezere - found it in the eurocamp brochure (cheaper than keycamp) - i think they do pick the best sites - its fab - kids are v. safe, and play in the playground most of the day (we give em walkie talkies so we can check up on them), authentic restaurant and bar on site serving good food, on the river so you can try canoeing - the kids would love it - also fishing, tropical looking swimming pools x 2 plus paddling pools, kids club, bike hire, pony rides etc etc. But not noisy and pikey (as my dh said) - very rural but not isolated, very beautiful location, run by a dutch family who are so helpful. Word of warning though, wherever you go, avoid 1st 2 weeks of August, sites in France always quieten down to a nice level middle August onwards - you will find the website if you search on google, highly recommended!!!!! good luck with your searches (by the way, we have been twice to this place it was so fab, and hope to go again this year)

sievehead · 13/01/2007 19:51

Also, in the michelin guide to camping in France, this site is awarded "3 red tents" which is basically the best rating you can get....

brimfull · 13/01/2007 20:13

We went \link{http://www.canvasholidays.co.uk/search/showcampsite-overview.asp?id=LO04Y\here{ and hated it.

Pool was effing freezing, campsite was too busy, trailer was really cramped and so close to others we were woken up by children running around inside their own trailer.
I mean mobile home of course. There was no room outside for kids to play with a ball without it ending up in next doors dinner, children had to play in the carpark.
Would never do a holiday like this again. We escaped on the train to Paris to get away.

brimfull · 13/01/2007 20:14

sorry

100PerCentCod · 13/01/2007 20:15

100PerCentCod · 13/01/2007 20:16

wheresthehamster · 13/01/2007 20:24

When we stayed at Dunreill in Holland all us Eurocampers stared enviously at the Keycampers - bigger, smarter caravans, more outside space, decent patio furniture and non-grotesque-looking BBQs.

I would definitely go for Keycamp if we went to the same place again.

100PerCentCod · 13/01/2007 22:25

saem on our site
we were keycampers
teh suro sites stuff looked OLD

PeachesMcLean · 13/01/2007 22:28

Cod -tell me more about Italian sites... we're thinking of somewhere round Tuscany in May. Still noisy and hot?
