Link to the 2014 Legoland thread

Please ask away, and feel free to add your own hints and tips and reviews! Legoland is daunting, esp for parents going on their own so any tips and hints are much appreciated.

None of the regular posters on this thread are employees or associated with Legoland, we are mostly local parents with Annual passes and know the place very well as its our local playground.

Happy Legolanding!

We found booking a package via legoland website for 2 days with a nights accommodation ( one free day in park) worked out cheaper than using blue peter badges and booking accommodation seperately

Hi everyone! So glad I've found this! We've never been before but are planning a day visit at May half term. We are looking into staying in a hotel nearby and using the Kellogg's vouchers. It wi be 2 adults 2 dcs so am I right in thinking we'd just pay for the kids? They'll be 7 & 4. They never get to do anything like this so it will be a real treat for them. I'm following all of your tips with interest, especially regarding food and drink etc. If anyone has any particular advice for first-timers I'd be most grateful! Thanks in advance

DebbieFiderer · 07/04/2015 20:21

My biggest tip would be to arrive early, about 930, to make the most of the day, and plan on staying until they kick you out. If you can't get a queue bot then go on as many rides as you can first thing before the queues get ridiculous then do all the shows and playgrounds for a few hours until it starts to clear out again.

spleenyone · 07/04/2015 20:36

Thanks Debbie! Do you know how to get a queue bot? How much do you need to pay?

DebbieFiderer · 07/04/2015 22:21

The basic ones are £15 per person, you can either pre book or just pay on the day. They don't cut the queue time, but effectively queue for you; you select a ride, it tells you what time you will be able to ride it, and you do other things while you wait. Worth it if you are only going for one day as a one off, if you can afford it!

spleenyone · 07/04/2015 22:26

Thanks Debbie that definitely sounds worth the money!

DebbieFiderer · 07/04/2015 22:28

It really is, especially on a busy day (which half term will be!), but it isn't cheap. And on really busy days you can still end up queuing on busy rides, just not for as long as people in the main queue (our record is about 30-45 mins in the q bot queue, the length of the main queue doesn't bear thinking about!). It also doesn't cover every ride - some don't have q bot access at all, and on a few you have to pay extra if you want to add them on.

spleenyone · 07/04/2015 22:30

Thank you so much for all of the information, really appreciate it

HRHQueenMe · 08/04/2015 02:57

To Add to Debbies post re qbot, plan plan plan! Always have a ride queing in your qbot, so save a long queue for when you do the shows and cinema etc. Look at the map. There might be a bit of going back and fro but its not far between rides and you will get the hang of them.
All the water rides will get you very very wet so do all 3 in succession and then get changed and dry (viking river, pirate falls, water slide (raft racers?) and the splash park. On a hot day bring swim gear so the DC s can make full use of the waterplay. And bring towels!!!

Thanks HRH! I will start making a list of what to take, my kids love getting wet so that's a great tip about changes of clothes and towels!

NormHonal · 08/04/2015 08:12

Has anyone tried the QBot Mobile website yet? Has an app for it been released? It was advertised right at the end of last season.

Slightly random lego land related question.... We are going in Saturday and Sunday and staying in the Bracknell Hilton, ds2 is allergic to dairy am I likely to find food for him there? Or is there a tesco close by that I can grab sandwiches etc from before we get into the park?

DebbieFiderer · 08/04/2015 08:57

There is quite a good range of different types of food in the park, but I guess it depends on exactly what he can eat. Maybe try asking on their Facebook page or calling them, they should have a better idea.

shufflebum · 08/04/2015 09:03

Good idea, thanks

dannydyerismydad · 08/04/2015 13:49

There's a massive Sainsbury's opposite the Bracknell Hilton if you need to buy a picnic.

Palmtree · 08/04/2015 16:27

Hi Fellow Legolanders, quick question - from an "old" map of Legoland I see there was an Xbox 360 Gaming Zone, but can't find it on the current website map - does anyone know if it still exists or has it been discontinued? Going next Monday (Inset Day, SW London), hope it will be okay!

DebbieFiderer · 08/04/2015 16:44

I think it has moved up to the top of the hill, near the imagination centre.

shufflebum · 08/04/2015 17:12

Oh that's useful thanks danny

cleodivi · 08/04/2015 17:49

I am trying to decide whether to go to Legoland or to Chessington with my two 8-year olds on August 28th. Which do you consider to be more suitable? Also it would be good to have pros and cons for both! TIA

cleodivi · 08/04/2015 17:50

Also we would be staying in Hook so I'm not sure if transport is easy or not....

DebbieFiderer · 08/04/2015 17:52

It kind of friends on how brave/tall they are! If they like rollercoasters then definitely chessington, there isn't much for older children at legoland. Chessington also has the zoo which is nice for a break from rides, but the splash park at legoland is a big plus on a hot day.

DebbieFiderer · 08/04/2015 17:53

Sorry that should be depends, not friends!

Will you be driving from Hook? Probably doesn't matter too much if so. Not sure of public transport options though.

GlomOfNit · 08/04/2015 20:51

Coming back to this thread to report on last Thursday, which was a most successful day. Grin As others have found, it wasn't too busy at all. We went straight for Driving School, which DS1 loved (but drove on the wrong side of the road throughout...) and waited maybe 10 minutes for that, some of which is the 'instruction video' anyway. Then Boating school, a bit longer. Laser Raiders was the worst in terms of queues, just under an hour Sad but some fab stuff to look at while you wait. Then everything else apart from the Dragon's Apprentice (25 mins or so) was fine. We walked right onto all the stuff in the Viking bit and did the Viking River ride twice, we liked it so much! Grin It was so refreshing being able to walk past something, say 'do you fancy going on that?' and five minutes later be on it. The new adventure playground in pirates zone is fabulous.

Didn't do the pirate show because none of the showtimes coincided with an empty slot for us, but looking forward to seeing it again next time. Agree it's vv odd for Heartlake City to have marauding pirates running amuck in the middle of it.

I'm now wondering about going back for May the 4th. How crazy busy does it get? May the actual 4th is a Monday (school) so I'm guessing the weekend Star Wars days will be stupidly busy.

JustDrivingHome · 08/04/2015 23:13

May 4th is a bank holiday, so will be stupidly busy as well.

DebbieFiderer · 09/04/2015 08:24

Agree it will be ridiculously busy, but that isn't necessarily a reason not to go if you are realistic about expectations. You won't get on the big rides without queuing for a couple of hours, but there are always smaller rides with shorter queues, and the shows, playgrounds and other activities.
