All the roads can't be closed surely!

DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 13:40

They pretty much are. There will be diversions in place but this will be sign posted on the individual roads. There should be some info out there but I can't find any. I live in Leeds near the airport and there have been signs up for weeks stating 'this road will be closed on so and so date' all over the outskirts of the city.

SavoyCabbage · 21/06/2014 13:42

www.letour.com/le-tour/2014/us/stage-1.html

I would go south of Leeds and then on to the M1. Unless you have a bike and a yellow jersey.

Oldieandgoldie · 21/06/2014 13:42

Yes, it's going to be a nightmare going anywhere in N Yorkshire that weekend, but you should be able to go due east from LBA, keeping south of Harrogate, and get on to the A1 that way.

Good luck, there's supposed to be a website showing road closures but we've never been able to get on it.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 13:43

Try here there is an interactive map so you can plan your route.

ssd · 21/06/2014 16:41

both those links show the route, but when trying to go on the aa route planner all the roads closed are the roads we need! I just want to be able to plan a route without knowing the area, that doesnt show the roads that are closed, but I cant do this. We'll be coming back our hols at the worst time, all tired and wanting to drive home and hitting roadblocks everywhere! And all the hotels are full so we cant even stay the night and go home on sunday.

nightmare!

Left out of the airport. Straight on at the lights (Murgatroyds Fish and chips is on the left) taking a left at the second set of lights on to the A65.
Head for the city centre (you are not going there you just need to go in that direct). You will travel on the M621 for a few minutes then you will see signs for the M1 north. Follow those and you are on your way.

DH is from Middleborough and I just showed him the map for the road closure and he says this way will be clear.

ssd · 21/06/2014 17:05

the A65 is shut!! so is the A61, A659, A660, A658, A6069, B6265, B6160, A684, B6270, A6108

BLOODY MURDER!!

thanks dotty x

DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 17:14

Just checked again and the bit of the A65 you need to be on is not closed (heading towards Kirkstall Road).

ssd · 21/06/2014 17:21

dotty you are brilliant! just few more questions Blush

so for someone who is thick and has never been to Leeds we will go

Left out of the airport. (is there only one exit?)
Straight on at the lights (Murgatroyds Fish and chips is on the left) taking a left at the second set of lights on to the A65. (wheres it signposted to?)

Head for the city centre (is that on the A65?)
(you are not going there you just need to go in that direct).
You will travel on the M621(is thte M621 a continuation of the A65?)
for a few minutes then you will see signs for the M1 north. Follow those and you are on your way.

OP posts:
DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 17:52

Yes only one exit.

Sign posted A65 will say city centre or Leeds.

M621 is very well sign posted. The signs for the M621 also have M1 North on them so you will know you are on the right road.

Once you are on Kirkstall road you are heading the right way. Kirkstall road has a Morrisons on it and a Leisure Park with a Vue Cinema, Frankie and Bennys and a Virgin Gym so look out for them.

I hope it works out for you. Failing that come to my house and I will drive to the M1 and you can follow me Grin

wombat22 · 21/06/2014 17:57

Won't Murgatroyds be on the right after leaving the airport Confused

DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 18:10

Opps crap yes it would be it is the travel lodge/holiday inn/wacky warehouse on the left!!! Thanks wombat Grin

ssd · 21/06/2014 18:13

so its chippy on the right Grin

OP posts:
Trazzletoes · 21/06/2014 18:16

Sorry, you need to turn left out of the airport, then left at the roundabout THEN Murgatroyds is on your right.

Is offer you here for a cuppa (the planes land about half a mile from my garden!) but DBIL is getting married that day. Bah. No bikes for us.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 18:16

Yes. Sorry in my head I was travelling to the airport!!

All the others are correct though. Grin

AnythingNotEverything · 21/06/2014 18:20

Excellent advice from Dotty.

As an alternative, once on the A65 you could turn right onto the ring road at KFC in Horsforth and go around the ring road to the M621 instead.

Either way south of the city centre and on to the A1 would be best.

ssd · 21/06/2014 18:25

there'll probably be signs for diversions I'm guessing?

OP posts:
DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 18:50

There are signs up already so I think you will be just fine. You will be heading away from the route so it should be clear.

I hope you have a fab holiday Grin

ssd · 21/06/2014 19:00

thanks so much, first holiday abroad and ds is 16!!

OP posts:
DottyDooRidesAgain · 21/06/2014 19:04

Well if you get stuck PM me and I will help you get out of Leeds Grin

ssd · 21/06/2014 20:37

thanks, I might need to wing it, my phone doesnt have t'internet!

am hoping once we leave the airport there'll be signs for us folks driving north...

just had a thought, wheres best for parking at the airport, dont want to park somewhere thats shut on the 5th! we will book it online probably, need somewhere nearish as we fly out in the middle of the night, so want to park and get to airport without much hassle.

OP posts:
Trazzletoes · 21/06/2014 21:04

Beyond the actual airport car parks there's not very much in the way of parking nearby. It's quite a small airport. I think there are 1 or 2 private companies that offer parking closeby.

No idea of quality.

It will all be open on the 5th. The airport is a couple of miles from the actual route of the Tour.
