Don't forget you can run through the route on Google street view before you leave - that should help you write some instructions for your navigator if you have one.

You'll basically have to park at the airport, there isn't anywhere else, as Trazzle says!

Unfortunately I can imagine the traffic is going to be an absolute bugger that day, I'm extremely glad that my mum didn't choose it as the date for the party for my grandparents both turning 90, as I would have the same problem as you only heading south instead of north. I'd be tempted to hunker down in Bradford til it's all over - the Travelodge there still has rooms available (I was quite surprised to discover).

We parked in the on site airport car park with no problem - except when we came back in the middle of the night and couldn't remember where we left the car Smile

Tip: make a note of the the car location as you leave the car park.

OH is coming back from the states that weekend and won't be able to come back over Woodhead Pass and will have to go miles out of the way via the M62.

should we prebook the car parking I wonder?

I don't know whether you can pre-book. I've never seen it full though.

tribpot · 22/06/2014 20:29

If you can, I would - one less thing to worry about being booked solid due to the dear old Tour de France.

Bunbaker · 22/06/2014 21:03

Yes, definitely pre-book it. It is cheaper and easy to do. You must use the same debit/credit card to get into and out of the car park that you used to make the booking. There is a free bus service between the airport and car parks.

We booked here
