Where to go in Europe with 3 kids in August?

We want to go on holiday in August and there are 3 children aged 8, 5 and 10 months. If anyone has any top tips for where to go, I'd be very grateful!! In an ideal world we'd get the ferry over to France or just have a short flight (3 hours tops). We don't want anywhere too hot because of the 10 month old and all of us are very fair skinned!

France is great, easy to get to by car so you don't have to worry about baggage allowances, you can just stick everything in.

I've stayed on lots of campsites over the years, hired a holiday cottage direct from the site and booked ferry. Much cheaper than Eurocamp etc.

Have a look at some of the sites on here, lots of activities for all ages.

Everywhere is going to be hot in August!

heat is not relevant to UV strength - in fact UV strength in Europe is a little less in August then it is in June.

you don't want anywhere nearer the equator to reduce the UV strength. Of course even in the UK you need suncream and cover ups.

if you don't want heat, stay away from the Med and anywhere south of northern France.

I haven't stayed here, but this place in Normandy looks great -pool, playground and animals, other kids to play with, loads of interesting day trips possible, on site massages for you!

Can't find an english set of pages, but Google translate lets you get the gist. No idea whether they've got space still in August though.

Netherlands - been there a couple of times in August and the weather was not hot!
Lots to do - beach, museums, galleries and decent food and easy to get everywhere - Hague, Leiden, Delft, Rotterdam
We rented a house in Hellvoetstluis (sp?) and you can rent houses with a highchair, playpen and cot which is ideal. We booked through a company called rompot.

Eastern Europe. So much more for your money.

Lake Balaton in Hungary a 2 hour train trip out of Budapest
Lake Bled in Slovenia
Rent an apartment in Split in Croatia. Though to be fair, it's Med so gets quite hot.

We tend to rent apartments over the internet. Usually they are the cheaper option than hotels and give so much more flexibility with young children. (Washing machines!) If you want to get a little more adventurous, Bulgaria and Romania are fantastic fun, though require a little more effort, especially when it comes to deciphering cyrillic. We're not beach holiday fans (I burn too easily) so we tend to go inland to mountain resorts. During the summer, ski resorts are a good source of cheap accommodation, with attached mountains and outdoor activities on tap.

We are going to Italy for the second time this year. Last year went to Garda, this year to Liguria.

Short flight, car hire not bad price, not too hot, food good for children, lots to see and do, and football for DS.

Ile de re on the west coast of France was the perfect temperature when we went last year.
