we're off to lefkas, staying at mousses apts, the 1st 2 weeks in august. anyone else going then?

also, any tips about restaurants, beaches, places to visit would be great. is there much within walking distance of the apts? trying to decide if buggy board is a good idea. dd1 is 4 but still gets tired!

Noonar - do a search, use key words mousses/simply travel/lefkas all or either or them - there are loads of different threads with loads of information. Sounds like you are there the two weeks before us. It's our third trip, so if you still want some specific advice will be happy to help if I can. Feel free to cat me.

poisson · 10/07/2006 16:49

poisson · 10/07/2006 16:50

Gem13 · 10/07/2006 16:56

Quick hijack while you Mousses people are around - are some of the apartments detached, if so what numbers?

poisson · 10/07/2006 16:56

no idea
am mousses virgin

CountessDracula · 10/07/2006 17:06

5 and 8 are detached

CountessDracula · 10/07/2006 17:07

nicest beach imo is Poros

BIG pebbles but the sea so beautiful and clear and calm. You can buy those surfy shoes for 8 euros which make it fine to walk on

Gem13 · 10/07/2006 17:17

Thanks CD - was thinking about going with D? next year and couldn't bear the stress of being the other side of the wall to someone!

CountessDracula · 10/07/2006 17:22

you get a bigger patio thing too

noonar · 10/07/2006 19:33

Cd - which one is Poros?

CountessDracula · 10/07/2006 23:02

the little beach below Poros

S of Nidri, past the turning for Geni, up the big hill then next on left, go about 2 ks and a turning down the hill on right to Poros beach (not really called that but the sign is for Poros Beach hotel or some such like) About 3ks down windy rd will get you there

willow2 · 11/07/2006 10:06

Nightmare journey or ok? Remember one jaunt to a beach on Zante where the car got stuck in a sand dune and we nearly went down the side of a mountain!

MissChief · 11/07/2006 10:12

road is fine down that way.
How pricey is it in Aug then and how hot I wonder? Mountains good escape tho from the heat - Karya lovely and much cheaper for eating out than coastal areas..

willow2 · 11/07/2006 10:47

Not been to Karya - how long does it take to get there from Mousses and can you recommend a restaurant?

MissChief · 11/07/2006 10:54

it's about 25 mins by car. Ask Simon - he can recommend the best taverna (sorry, name escapes me). Plain, simple food (and no fish/seafood as up in mtains) but home-made food and delights such as "spaghetti with cockerel"

CountessDracula · 11/07/2006 12:18

Journey is fine Willow

Karya is v close. We had a meal so vile there that we sent it back and left, I warn you! As you stand in the square with your back to the view, it is the one on the right with views off the side. VILE

willow2 · 11/07/2006 14:32

Glad to hear they've nuked the mossies - wasn't looking forward to being eaten alive.

willow2 · 11/07/2006 14:34

Noonar - do you leave at the end of July or first Sunday in August? If it's the latter you will have another Mumsnetter - not I - on site. Better Boden up while you can.

noonar · 11/07/2006 21:14

thanks for all those fab tips! willow, we're there 30 jul to 13 aug- is anyone else going then? if so, who? be great to meet up!
august is pricey and hot!!!!!!! aaagh!!!!!!! occupational hazard i'm afraid as am restricted to school hols. better turn up that air con!

Also, mousses devotees, have booked creche mornings only, but am wondering if pms would've been better due to heat? prob too late to change. hey-ho.

i did mornings for creche for first week, and then afternoons on second week. Prefered the afternoons to be honest cos of heat and just felt nice and laid back. Either are great though.

You lucky things - we went for 2 weeks in may and had best holiday ever.

willow2 · 11/07/2006 22:06

I'd opt for afternoons too - if only because of the heat. Also, with the time difference, we'd end up rushing to get DS to the club when it opened. Prefer to have lazy mornings. That said, I am a spoilt cow because I book all day - that way DS can go in for the really hottest part of the day - say from 12 until 3 - if needs be. Also, if he makes great mates with kids in different sessions he can swap and change to fit in with them. If wasn't doing that would definitely do afternoons.

Noonar - you miss Cod by an hour or so - she arrives the day you leave - and me by a week. Big up the mumsnet Mousses Massive. (Not saying we're massive btw, Weight Watchers is slowly working.)
