A while ago I read a threadwhere quite a few MNers recommended a beach in east Kent/Thanet (I remember that it wasn't too far from me!) Maybe in the Westgte area? I really would like to try it out this weekend if anyone knows where I mean?! TIA

Thank you! We went to Joss Bay last week and it was lovely but full of the children DH teaches (school is nearby, obviously!). I think we'll give Minnis Bay a try.

grumpyfrumpy, stop suggesting Minnis bay for goodness sake. It will be overrun with tourists

kipper22 · 07/07/2006 08:43

I'm not a tourist. I live in Canterbury - does that make me I acceptable?

oh kipper, I am joking!

Alan · 07/07/2006 08:45

kipper22 · 07/07/2006 08:51

sorry alan - missed the off at the end of my message! in that case, i'll stay off your beach if you stay out of my city!

Another vote for Joss Bay.

I can't remember where Westgate is though

Alan · 07/07/2006 15:40

on the way to margate
its inbetween Birchington on sea and Margate

beemail · 07/07/2006 16:14

Botany Bay without a doubt - not easy to find but between Margate and B'stairs but nearer to M'gate. Accessible through housing estate where there is free parking. A well kept secret - whoops not any more!!!

Alan · 07/07/2006 16:16

you will have to be more specific beemail

Used to frequent some of the bays near Broadstairs in my childhood. Dumpton Gap was always a favourite then, but don't know what its like now.

Sorry - between Foreland Point and Joss bay
Out of margate along road in from coast, past green area and turn L road has bungalows and doesn't look as though it will lead to a beach but it does. Ask locals and I'm sure they'll direct you. wherever you go have a nice day!

hewlettsdaughter · 09/07/2006 20:40

Hi all. kipper22 - hope you had a good day today, wherever you went...

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread. I added it to my watch list as we will be in Birchington for a week or so in August. Never been to the area before but looking forward to it!

kipper22 · 10/07/2006 09:29

Thanks all - we went out on Saturday afternoon in the end and ended up at west bay (I think it was somewhere between Westgate & Birchington.) A really lovely quiet place - we had lots of fun teaching 11month old DS how to look for crabs in the rock pools! Will definitely give some of the places on those websites a go in the future, thanks grumpy!

Thanks grumpyfrumpy - I didn't know about the Viking connection (ds will be pleased!).

kipper22, we are looking forward to the whole rock pool thing - haven't done it much with our kids (not with dd at all, who is 2).

Are the seal trips worth it?
