cx

CountessDracula · 26/06/2006 15:43

(hasten to add that it is not Babington stylee more trad but nicely done not too fusty musty)

puff · 26/06/2006 15:49

Danesfield House is a very relaxing place to stay. I think they do rooms for around £220 a night, but it might be possible to get cheaper via laterooms. Their spa is fab, the grounds are gorgeous and you are close to Marlow which has some good restaurants and shopping, all in a contained area by the river.

Chewton Glen!

costs and arm and a leg..... but so worth it!

CountessDracula · 26/06/2006 16:01

Oh yes there are millions that cost an arm and a leg, thought the budget was £400...

meowmix · 26/06/2006 16:09

The Spread Eagle in Midhurst is quite nice I think or wonderful wonderful place is the Feathers in Woodstock near Oxford. that was heaven.

We had a fab weekend in Battle too here - think shabby chic tho

Amberley Castle is supposed to be v nice. They seem to have some offers on.

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2006 16:49

Hi Lisalisa, I kept opening this thread and having to close it again as dh was lurking nearby! We are going in July, I've booked a suite at One Aldwych for 2 nights and have also booked the cinema for 3 hours for a screening of one of dh's favourite films - I'm going to give him a collection of 30 dvds as a present and get him to choose which one to watch. So we may be in the same place at the same time if you go there!

but I just looked at Laterooms and I could get a room that's normally £450 a night at Threadneedles, which is a 5* boutique hotel in The City, for £180/night! I think I'll stick with one Aldwych though for now, The City will be v quiet on a Sat and Sun night and I think he'd like to feel young and stay somewhere busy.

how about here

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2006 17:05

LisaLisa, I reckno Hotel Du Vin would suit you - they're not stupidly expensive but very nice, relaxing, great beds etc.

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2006 17:05

Brighton, you could get a train, really relax?

MrsBadger · 26/06/2006 17:08

West Stoke House
love it to bits - no pool ,no spa, but no stuffy desk clerks, waiters or bellboys etc. Utterly relaxed

chocolatequeen · 26/06/2006 20:37

The Crazy Bear just outside Oxford. Huge baths at the end of the bed, plasma screens, good restaurant, very very sexy.

Loads to do if you want to in Oxford.

Or the new hotel in the old prison in Oxford, forgotten what its called, again a couple hotel rather than a kid one iyswim.

CountessDracula · 26/06/2006 22:41

Lisa Le Manoir would be my top choice I guess

moondog · 26/06/2006 22:42

CD,Jan Moir wrote a damning review of Le Manoir in Telegraph earlier this month.....

puff · 27/06/2006 09:05

Le Manoir is still top of my list to stay if we find a spare few hundred pounds for 1 night! Had lunch there a while back - lovely.

CountessDracula · 27/06/2006 09:53

Then she is an arse Moondog

I like the Brands hatch Place hotel near to Bluewater (Fawkham in Kent). My hubbie and I go there foe our wedding anniversary without the kids. we upgrade to a Executive room so he has his plasma tv and large bed. It has a spa next to the hotel (sort of attached) yet because its next door you aren't paying spa hotel prices. I normally book myself in for my treatments before we go there (recommended) you can go teh back roads to Bluewater if you want shopping, restaurants etc at night. There is a little country lane route there

Its one of the handpicked group of hotels. They wiill get your cases out of the car, teh restaurant is a la carte so we normally eat out there is a local pub or we may go to Bluewater

Cheapest way of booking it is normally with last minute .com although if you email me the dates etc (if you like it) I can see if I can get it any cheaper for you as I am a travel agent.

My email is [email protected]
