te Manor House at Castle Combe . Really, really lovely and wickedly expensive, if I remember rightly.

Ahem - "The" Manor House - showing my northern roots.

Try one of the Hotel Du Vin hotels there's a few in the south. The Head Sommelier from Chewton Glen and Manager from there started this chain and the one in Winchester which was the first was fantastic and Gerard Bassenet was often there. They've sold up now as have the owners of Chewton Glen (30million). My Mum and Dad swear by Waterside at Bray, small and wonderful and not too far from Home for you . Chewton Glen is wonderful as is Amberley. Le Manoir, Raymond has completely overpriced the rooms so I hear up to 700 a night!!!!!!!!!

Eastwell is very close to us - we've eaten there a few times. Dh says some rooms are better than others - fire places etc. Very pretty grounds but haven't tried the health spa though it looks really nice. Very English Country Hotel.
