We're going to Legoland for 2 days in the easter hols with dd (7) & ds (4). They are both fans of lego & fast rides. Would appreciate your best tips. (Staying in central London)

i dont know cause i havent been yet but i thought i would mention if you didnt know alreay tesco fresh milk are doing a voucher at the moment for every aduly paying a child gets in free! thats a saving of £23.00 per child.

have a nice time!!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 07/04/2006 12:33

Get there as soon as the gates open.

Take the hill train to the back of the park and work forward.

Bring your own food, their food is truly foul.

If you bring your own food, eat it whilst watching the show\link{ttp://www.legoland.co.uk/park/shows.htm?view=Browse&spotguid=%7b641CFB20-09D9-4E83-BD23-99C2517772A5%7d\The kids will love it}

Are they into the wet stuff ??

How are you getting back into Central London ?

cece · 07/04/2006 12:34

Take your own food - the cafes/restauarants are quite expensive.

Get a map at the entrance. Plan your day so you get to do everything if possible!

You can hire/borrow a buggy type thing. Not sure if or what they charge as I always take my own.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 07/04/2006 12:35

Oh yes and expensive.

cupcakes · 07/04/2006 12:37

Afree with LadyS. Make a priority list and do the things which are likely to get busy first - as soon as the gates open. For example, the car driving section always has huge queues. Leave things like miniworld and duplo world till the end. If it's sunny and they want to get wet in the water works bring a change of clothes and a small towel. We bring ds and dd's swimsuits.

So many replies so quickly, this is great. They love getting wet so those tips appreciated. We were going to get train to & from London & then I think there's a shuttle from Windsor station(?) - DH is sorting out that bit! We're actually going for free with tesco deals vouchers. Tips about what to do first & what to leave til later (or not bother with at all!) are really great

How do you go for free with Tesco?

cece · 07/04/2006 13:05

Cash in your Tesco vouchers Grin

Theresa · 07/04/2006 13:15

Save Tesco clubcard points either by shopping at Tesco or with a tesco credit card. I only shop at tesco if they've got some good offers on eg double points as I'm not that keen on the shop & I've an Asda, Morrisons & Sainsbury closer but you also get points by using your credit card anywhere. Every 3 months you get your vouchers which are worth money off shopping at tesco or loads more on 'deals'. We usually spen about £600-£800 a month and in 18 months we've got enough for 4 of us to go to Legoland for 2 days (approx full price £200) & enough for the 4 of us to go to the pleasure beach @ Blackpool in October (appx £100), so they're well worth it.

We went yesterady with boys aged 6 and 8. Take your own drinks at least.. food is ok, but v expensive! If you have swimming trunks etc take them as all the kids stripped off yesterday and were running thru the water jets! It was fab. we love it more each time.

Firefox · 07/04/2006 13:26

As a side point - if you do use Tesco credit card to bump up points - make sure that you pay the card off in full every month as the points gained is not worth the interest charged.

Theresa · 07/04/2006 13:33

We do! (also got an interest free card but that's another story..!)

if u buy fresh milk in tesco (a 4 pint and 6 pint of milk )you get a voucher on the label for a free child with every full paying adult. i brought 2 milks yesterday and couldnt belive it!!!

Cant wait to go now!!

nannynick · 07/04/2006 15:52

I live near Legoland, so frequently visit - though tends to be with little one's.

Firstly, regarding discounted entry, there are vouchers around which can be used. £5 off per person Voucher, max £25 off - can sometimes be located online. Tesco Milk at the moment has Pay for Adult, Get Child Free.

With 2 adults and 2 paying children (under 3's are FREE), best deal would be two Tesco milk coupons.
2 x £29 Adult Day Pass = £58, 2 4-pint bootles of milk, probably around £2.50. Total cost around £60.50
If you can't find the Tesco vouchers, try using the other type of voucher available online, Children cost £46, Adults £58 = £104, with voucher save £20, so Total cost £84.

If you will visit more than twice a season, get an Annual Pass. I get one of these every year - the Restricted Pass is very good value, if you visit often.

Measure your children before you depart. The Legoland website contains details about height restrictions. If under 1.3m, then you will be limited in what rides they can do - though often if an adult accompanies them it's fine, but some rides do have Minimum height regardless of if an adult sits next to them or not.

Subject to height restrictions, I expect children aged 7 and 4 who like fast rides would like:
Dragon Coaster
Jungle Coaster
Dragon's Apprentice - while being short, it goes round twice and is quite fast.
Dino Dipper - Tip: to avoid squashing your child, you sit on the Outside, but alas they then squash you!
Wave Surfer - prepare to get a bit wet!

The above can all be found at the bottom of the park - so head there first - perhaps start with Knights Kingdom, then over to Dino area.

Take your own food/drink if at all possible, failing that, if the children like Pasta/Pizza, try Pasta Patch for lunch (located near Duplo Land), I seem to get more for the money there, no idea why.

tallmummy · 07/04/2006 15:57

DSs aged 5 and 4 loved it. Ds aged 2 couldn't do much, me even less as v.pregnant when we went.
Take loads of spare clothes as many rides involve water. If you watch the show look out for signs that say splash zone. They really are a splash zone- don't stand there unless you want to get soaked!

Theresa · 07/04/2006 18:36

you are all fantastic, especially nannynick, i really appreciate the effort that you've gone to there, your post will be the basis of our trip!

.planning to go to legoland in October.. thanks

winniewoo · 07/04/2006 22:08

bump..

UKmum4 · 08/04/2006 03:16

take the children out of school and go for a day - start at the far end of the park and work back towards the entrance. We have had three lovely family days. Grin don't forget to take a towel for the water park.

tigermoth · 08/04/2006 08:01

Sainsburys milk has the vouchers too.

Take as much of your own food and drink as you can manage as meals inside the park eats up your money.

I have got good legoland ticket deals from lastminute.com. Sometimes cheaper than vouchers if there's a group of you.

If you think your children will beg for lego from the gift shop, decide with them in advance if you will do this or not, to help save tantrums on the day. Last time I went, there was a marquee outside the park selling cut price lego. Don't know if it is there now.

BeckyR · 08/04/2006 08:08

Sorry to bring a downer on the conversation, but when we went last year we had a hellish experience. Yes, we went in the holidays, and yes, we got there later than we should have...but it was so busy that we hardly got on any rides as we had to queue for so long. And the whole experience is incredibly expensive.

The best thing about it was the water jets - they saved the day.

I'm afraid I'll be sticking with days out in Weston-Super-Mare - you can't beat model trains for little boys!

cece · 08/04/2006 08:16

Tesco vouvher expires 19/10/06

poppy123 · 08/04/2006 21:03

we went on a Friday in Oct last year and there were hardly any queues, lovely weather (really!) and had an excellent day out!
