We're going to Legoland for 2 days in the easter hols with dd (7) & ds (4). They are both fans of lego & fast rides. Would appreciate your best tips. (Staying in central London)

great tips here and will definitely be going before ds starts school in Sept.

Which hotels would you recommend? Is there a travel lodge nearby? Any decent restaurants? How far is it from Windsor?

collision · 09/04/2006 14:27

Is there a travel lodge nearby or something nicer that isnt too expensive?

How far is it from Windsor?

Any decent restaurants?

cece · 09/04/2006 15:03

sorry typo coucher expries the 29th Oct!

Kathlean · 09/04/2006 15:55

I would say avoid the pasta patch at all costs.

Went there just over a week ago. Reheated pasta with foul sauces, cost £16 for me and DS just for a meal and drink that was it!!!!

One day is enough. There is plenty of parking but if you get there a bit later you may have a bit of a walk to the entrance. The only time parking was a problem for us was at the end of last season on the firework display day! We had to park in some overflow field Shock.

Also it was horendously busy that day. Would recommend midweek school day if possible. You would easily go on all the rides in one day then! On a busy day you might have to miss out bits iyswim. Two days would be fine if the weather is good as you can just sit by the water bit and let the kids pay in the water. Don't forget the swimmers and towels.

Jasnem · 09/04/2006 17:34

Sorry to hi jack but I'm going tomorrow.Kids of 5&6 and 6week old baby.Would a sling be useful, or just the buggy? Don't want to take more than I need, and can't carry him all day, so buggy will definitely be coming.

cece · 09/04/2006 18:39

A sling might be handy. depends if you have 2 adults going or not. as most rides children need to be accomapnied by an adult.

SpeedyMummy · 09/04/2006 18:56

Hi
I was there on Friday and they have moved the Lego discount tent to behind the new DIgger ride - might be worth a look - lots of clickits stuff there.

ALso Lastminute.com are selling tickets for £15 each. Not sure how much of a discount that is as I have an annual pass too...

The other ride my kids love is the Spinning Spiders (especially if I spin it really fast Grin)

alp · 09/04/2006 20:57

I read this thread last night as we were off there today. our DD 2 loved it - she felt very brave going on the 'chairoplane' which is an old fashioned swing on chains that goes round and round - do you know what i mean?!!
She also loved the outdoor show as there as a princess and booo-ing (panto style)
We got there at 12-ish and left at 5-ish (just as the heavens opened) took a few sanwiches and a pushchair (2 adults-1 child). remebered about taking a spare pair of clothes and wellies for the water area (another hit). it was busy but not crazy, there were queues but as we only went on the little rides they were only 20mins at the most. as well as the tesco milk offer I saw a link on MN or £5 ech person up to a party of five - it might still be valid - try this: \link{http://www.whattodowiththekids.co.uk/attractions/vouchers/areas/berkshire.htm\discount voucher}
Overall good day out! and i am thinking of getting the annual pass as we are only up the road!

MamaMaiasaura · 09/04/2006 21:15

Alp - thanks for that link - what a fab site have printed off two vouchers that will def yse and loads more good deals :)

lexiemum · 09/04/2006 21:18

those wanting accomodation - not sure on windsor itself. But there's travelodges in Bracknell - no more than 20mins away through Windsor Great Park.

You're not far from windsor town but need a car to get into the town - restaurants are good - there's a great italian, name escapes me, but if you want it, will find out.

if stay in Bracknell then there's an italian in Ascot - stop through on way back to hotel?

bracknell would provide a second day of activity for younger ones - The Look Out and a leisure pool with slides, both recommended.

not sure on that big white house - remember it from when i ws a kid and it was windsor safari park - had a twang of nostalgia when we were on the hill train as thats where the elephants use to be...

def recommend The Look Out near Bracknell and Coral Reef ( the water slides etc)

Windsor has loads of places to eat - Cafe Rouge in the Station area has a family room and serves breakfasts etc
Bracknell would be good for a cheap place to stay but other than that there is nothig else in the town centre.

Clary · 09/04/2006 22:21

Have had legoland recommended to me but blimey! 20-min queues - and alo yr post suggests this is not long!
i wouldn't want to queue for 20 mins for anything, let alone asking the children to do it.
Thanks for the alert to give it a miss unless possible on an inset day!

cece · 09/04/2006 22:37

Oh yes we queued for over an hour for the dinosaur safari - in the rain - with 4 and 20 month old. It was c**p.

On busy days you definitely won't get to go on everything. On quiet school days then you might!

CarlaJo · 10/04/2006 09:27

Does anyone have advice for a visit to Legoland with a 3yr DS who is definitely not interested in rides? He does love lego, especially the Lego City stuff (fire fighters, builders, police etc) - is there anything based on that for him to play with? Is it worth a trip, or should we wait until he is older?

cece · 10/04/2006 09:31

There are hsows to watch - a big one by th elake and a smaller puppet show. Water play area - need swimmers for this. Playground area. A couple of nice train rides. A fire engine thing which looks fun for kids but bloody knackering for the parents - it is a race to put the fire out! Can't think what else.... Oh driving school for cars and boats.

MissChief · 10/04/2006 09:32

if you'd be travelling a long way, may not be worth it for a 3 yr old (you'd be paying for him now anyway only free for under-3s) - there is lego to play with though and trains to ride on/models to see etc

CarlaJo · 10/04/2006 09:36

Cece - that sounds like he would really enjoy it - I can always get DH to do the knackering Fire Game! And we don't have too far to travel, MisCheif, just from Bristol, and we also have a voucher from the Guardian last week.

chai18 · 10/04/2006 09:37

I'm looking to go next week.

Which day will be busier, Sunday or Monday

We went yesterday, and had a great day out. The dragon rollercoaster was the biggest hit, We went on it first, and queued for less than 20 mins. The only really long queue we had was for the diggers (well over 1/2 hour) We thought it was rubbish, but the 4 yr old boy thought it was worth the wait.
If you want to go on water rides, take a rain coat each, or failing that use the raincover from the buggy to protect you.
I had 6 week old baby with me - there is only one area dedicated for bf - the baby changing areas had no chairs, so I was left with feeding outside, on a touilet or in the very crowded restaurant (begged a seat at a familys table in restaurant). Bf area was lovely when I found it, needed more as had to trail right across park.

Not worth it if you pay full price, but definitely worth the tesco voucher price.
Oh, make sure you have 1 adult per child under 1.3m if you want to take them on bigger rides.

make sure you stay till the end of the day as well - we found that after 5 the place really cleared out and we could walk on any of the rides we wanted.
