I bought a new Britax Freeway for £70 for my Golf, then changed my car. According to the staff at Babies R Us this should fit my car but it doesn't. Only in the front, then she gets the sun in her eyes (dd is 13mths) I tried every car seat in the shop, fitted by an expert, but they all slipped straight out. My sisters Mama and papa's one fits, but she won't swap.. what can I do. please help!

We had a Britax Freeway in our Picasso and it fitted well (now how just a booster) Maybe you should try getting another 'profesional' to fit it?

Do you live anywhere near Milton Keynes? I am sure there other shops that do it, but there is a specialist shop (somewhere) in MK, that we bought a car seat from for a van, I think our HV told us about this shop, so maybe you could ask yours if there is anything like this near you?

Although to be honest I would also contact your sales garage, maybe there is something wrong with the seats? I can't see that even if it is a new model, a family car would have seats that are difficult to make safe for a family!

alliebaba · 11/03/2006 12:12

I'm about an hour and a half from MK. It's a 2000 picasso. The guy at babies r us thinks it's the way that the seat belts are positioned which means you can't tighten it up enough. the ones in the front are higher and at a different angle.. bought it privately as it's no rolls royce! bottom of the range etc..
Lockets, i live in a village 3 miles from town with no footpaths on the roads so walking a nightmare. can do school run in less than 2 mins as school at top of our road

kiddicare also fit carseats as do mothercare. i remember trying to get a car seat to fit our old nissan primera, we had to geta britax club class(now replaced with first class) as it was the only one we could get to fit.

Yorkiegirl · 11/03/2006 12:17

what about an isofix seat? They go in the back of the picasso. We have the Britax Duo Isofix and its brilliant. Really easy to fit too. Best price is from kiddicare.

misdee · 11/03/2006 12:18

will a 2000 model have ISOFIX?

alliebaba · 11/03/2006 12:19

eh?? what's isofix

OP posts:
misdee · 11/03/2006 12:23

in the back seats, the 2 outert ones, if you check for 2 little slits on the bottom of the back rest part of the seat. you might find 2 small bars. the seat then connects to the bars. its the safest seat available.

Yorkiegirl · 11/03/2006 12:26

my 2001 picasso had isofix.... worth checking!

Twinkie1 · 11/03/2006 12:28

Britax renaissance and the maxi cosi one I have at the moment fits ours and our golf too!!

Please don't put your kids in the front of a car - if you have a picasso put her on the middle seat at the back - farthest away from any impact if there ever was.

alliebaba · 11/03/2006 12:37

you sound like you're talking from experience twink! will have a look later for iso thingy. I think i'll go to kiddicare tomorrow. only an hour away :( any more suggestions gratefull received.
you're all so clued up

OP posts:
misdee · 11/03/2006 12:38

if you can afford it and you ISOFIX then get one of those.

Twinkie1 · 11/03/2006 12:43

Well we have a golf and a picasso (got mew golf yesterday and is super!!) - but DS's seat fits both and DDs booster fits both too.

Halfords are generally good or mothercare for advice or you can ring manufacturers direct - only problem with Isofix is that they are really heavy and hard to get in and out - mind you are far safer you just got to weigh up the pros and cons really.
