Desperately seeking sun for £2k!

We normally go to Cornwall in August for 6 nights but just looked at the price and its £2k for a family of 4 HB!? Its a lovely hotel and we always love it but thats expensive and with the weather at the moment I need some sun!!
So can it be done to take a family of 4 abroad for a week in August for £2k either AI/FB/HB? Or can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel HB in Cornwall for under £2k?!

First Choice now specialise in AI holidays, so you could see what deals are available online, presumably they price match online deals in the Thomson shops as they do for Thomsons own holidays being part of the TUI group.

You can also find aparthotels from other places on SC which can offer B&B, HB etc in their on site restaurant, so don't dismiss them until you've looked at the supplements small print.

If you don't mind where you go there are probably some good deals for places in the next few weeks.

It can be done. We spend that much per week (including flights) to Greek islands. In fact, going to Greece you will probably find it is cheaper (and better quality) eating out than staying AI, which is what we do.

Any ideas on where you want to go? Or where you don't want to go?

And are you definitely stuck on the idea of being catered for in a hotel or prepared to consider B&B basis?

We are going for a week full board for £2,100 to Ibiza. I've never been there before and we are staying just outside Santa Eulalia.

We had a 'trip of a lifetime' in June, which was enjoyable but hectic and wanted to just relax and chill out. I always look on Trip Advisor first to pick the ones with great reviews.

Then we booked with alpharooms.

hollyround · 09/07/2012 13:45

Well I've spent the last few days scouring the internet and can't find anything for under £2k other than grotty hotels that all th etrip advisor reviews say to stay away from! We are now looking at going in th eOctober half term to the canary islands but flights are coming in at over £1000 for 4 and accomodation plus food/transfers are over £1000 for 4!!! Aghhh I've tried onthebeach etc but nothing and happy to book self catering if nice accomodation etc but with flights and car hire and food is so far very expensive!
Any suggestions before I just go on a sun bed and be done with it?!

Canaries in October is expensive for flights (haven't been but carried out several searches over the last few years trying to find a bargain).

HalleLouja · 09/07/2012 20:54

What about Cyprus for half term it should still be warm.

PM me with details and i'll see what i can find. I am the Holiday booker Queen!

mrsmoodypants · 10/07/2012 15:09

Where are you flying from?

5 of us of for 10 days in 3 bed apartment in Spain - fab trip advisor reviews = £2k. You're best booking the flights and an apartment seperately.

mrsmoodypants · 10/07/2012 15:24

Have a look here - you can get a week for £1000 or under - lots offer SC/BB/HB/AI depending on what you select. You should be able to get flights for around £1k.

Some resorts I wouldn't touch with a barge pole but some are ok - and if it's a week in the sun rather than a holiday of a lifetime.......

This site is good as you can filter your accomodation types, customer reviews etc

Doesn't look like my link worked....will try again later!

Virgil · 11/07/2012 17:52

I priced up a week all inclusive in four star Portugal yesterday came out at £2100. Lowcostholidays.com

Virgil · 11/07/2012 17:54

Don't bother with Cyprus it's really expensive

Nobhead · 11/07/2012 18:08

We are going to Tenerife AI for 1 week in August with DS (aged 4). Costing us £1200 for the 3 of us. We got it off teletext holidays.com. Tenrife is always good value and guarenteed sunshine Smile

mrsmoodypants · 11/07/2012 18:09

PM you instead ;)

Nobhead · 11/07/2012 18:11

Try here for flights too

mrsmoodypants · 11/07/2012 18:16

Flights to Gerona seem cheao according to that site...

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/07/2012 11:31

Turkey is good value, the flights are quite expensive, around £300 each but you can get good accomodation very cheap. SC apartments for £25 a night per room, so £350 for a week. It is also good value eating out there.

And of course the weather will be better than Cornwall Wink

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/07/2012 11:32

Sorry I meant £350 for 2 weeks so £175 for a week.

ValerieDavis · 12/07/2012 11:34

Take a look at Trivago before you book. Great comparison website.

ihatethecold · 12/07/2012 11:37

i think nearer the end of the school hols is supposed to be cheaper than the start.
there is a link on MSE website, where you can enter your budget and it will tell you where you can fly to.

NoWayNoHow · 12/07/2012 11:38

It can definitely be done - we just did a week AI at a 5* hotel in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, for £1,450 including flights for myself, DH and DS (4). Guaranteed sun, 4 hour flight, incredible food, amazing pools, beauitful island for exploring. DS stayed free at the hotel too, and considering how much he ate, we think they must have made a loss with us!

I would imagine flights would be more now it's almost into school holidays, but it's still unlikely to take you to over £2k for 4 of you.

EmptyCrispPackets · 12/07/2012 11:46

You can go away easily for 2k, I am looking at holidays for £195 each a week sc in Greece.

You need to look on teletext or icelolly ty generally seem the best for last minute and good deals. Have gone with both of them in past. What I wouldn't do unless you're going AI is bother with trip advisor, why do people expect for under £200 each! Plus if it's just a apartment the main thing is that it's clean, close to some shops & restaurants and a beach.

I've probably been on 6 holidays where if I'd have gone with trip advisor reviews would have cancelled, keep a open mind. Some people just complain over anything.

Greek islands are lovely for good food and exploring, we stayed in Kos once in a tiny village. Hired a car and was fab.

Jbck · 14/07/2012 14:15

emptypkts what sites are u using? Ive looked at allsorts and, this year, there seems to be almost nothing under £400 and Id be willing tO take one of these fir the flights alone but theres virtually no choice at all and like another thread mentions crazy flight times. If you are looking tO travel from antwhere other than London prices are crazy.

Jbck · 14/07/2012 14:16

Oops just saw teletext etc and ive tried both to no avail, have you a secret password Grin
