Desperately seeking sun for £2k!

We normally go to Cornwall in August for 6 nights but just looked at the price and its £2k for a family of 4 HB!? Its a lovely hotel and we always love it but thats expensive and with the weather at the moment I need some sun!!
So can it be done to take a family of 4 abroad for a week in August for £2k either AI/FB/HB? Or can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel HB in Cornwall for under £2k?!

We've just booked 2 weeks in Egypt AI over October half term for £1800 with Thomson.

Have you looked through their website?

TequilaMockinBird · 14/07/2012 14:22

That was for 3 adults aswell as DD is over 12. It may be cheaper with free child places?

Milliways · 14/07/2012 17:39

I have just seen this advert on my facebook:
Meadway Travel Ltd, Call 0118 9596262, Bargain of the day.
13 Aug - 7 nights - 2 adults + 2 children from Gatwick, 7 nights on a self catering basis to Corfu. Paleo Studios in Paleokastritsa.
Total cost £1368.00

This is a small independant travel agent who we have found can often beat internet prices. Facebook page is here

EmptyCrispPackets · 14/07/2012 17:42

This was flying from Bristol or gatwick.

Keep looking - last time I looked was a few days ago and I think ice lolly was coming up £194 for first week of school hols

Insanity · 15/07/2012 17:32

I'm looking to, same budget for a family of four. I'm hoping that holiday prices will be slashed in August due to people staying here for the Olympics, fingers crossed!

I've tried nearly all the sites, just wondering if perhaps some of the travel agents on the high street may have some bargains in the next few weeks.

IAmSherlocked · 15/07/2012 17:35

I found self-catering holidays in the Greek islands for the first week in August for just over 1K for 2 adults and 1 child.

IAmSherlocked · 15/07/2012 17:35

Sorry, that was with Thomson.

Vagaceratops · 15/07/2012 18:05

If you look at the Thomson 'small and friendly' you can normally get a good deal. It wont be thrills, but we have never had a problem as apart from the pool we dont use many other facilities.

four of us are going to Sardinia for first week in August for nothing like £2k, not even half that - whole thing probably about £800? we are staying in a tiny apartment though

Insanity · 15/07/2012 19:58

I've been looking at Thomsons small and friendly, they sound ideal for us, but the ones I like aren't available for when we want to go, obviously very popular.

hollyround · 18/07/2012 13:41

I've scoured most of the websites and we really want to fly from Bournemouth or Southampton as the cost to get to/park at one of the London airports is very expensive and takes a long time especially if we're only going for a week! So far flights to almost anywhere are coming in at £1300 for the four of us before we've thought about accomodation or food! I've found a few packages for about £1600 but a lot are allocation on arrival or trip advisor reviews are awful!! Hmm if anyone has any more bright ideas... please share!!

How old are your dc OP?

hollyround · 19/07/2012 08:30

My children are 6 and 8, I have trawled the internet again and still coming up around £2k with crap flight times to iffy hotels! I need to fly on or around 4th august preferably from Bournemouth but Gatwick if I had to... or drive to France?!!! Can you tell I'm desperate?! I have been looking at AI only because self catering was coming out only a tiny bit cheaper and I figure if the food is horrendous I will bite the bullet and eat out but hedging my bets that some will be ok??!
I found a nice little apartment in France but its £850 plus £450 for ferry plus fuel, plus food.... Aghhh!

Thomas Cook have a KidsWorld hotel in Alcudia for just under £2k flying from Gatwick on 6th August, AI for 7 nights.

TequilaMockinBird · 19/07/2012 09:32

Or HB in Cala Bona for £1721

TequilaMockinBird · 19/07/2012 09:33

Benidorm £1826 AI.

Have a look on TC website, just leave 'any destination' showing and play around with the board basis etc

MrClaypole · 19/07/2012 09:46

Have you looked at making your own trip rather than a package holiday?

Have a look where you can get a cheap flight to then book your own accommodation. Often a lot cheaper.

We just booked BA flights from London to France for 4 for under £400 total incl taxes. Then found a kid friendly place from baby friendly boltholes website.

Good luck!

ENormaSnob · 19/07/2012 20:51

Check onthebeach, travel republic and thomas cook.

hollyround · 23/07/2012 21:10

Ok ladies (and gentlemen!) I am now contemplating siblu/keycamps etc around the vendee area! Can anyone please suggest one?? xx

OP posts:
ENormaSnob · 24/07/2012 19:07

We went with keycamp in 09. Enjoyed it bug don't think it's a budget option tbh.

We stayed at la garangeoire in the vendee.

Going with yelloh this year. Taking our own tent to the Jura region in August.

Hersetta · 25/07/2012 15:43

We are going to sapin for the the last week in August. Flights to Murcia for us (plus DD (5) and DS (1) were £650 and rental of a 3 bed villa with pool was £450pw - so loads leftover for food and drink within your budget.
