Do not go to Emma Bridgewater- NOT family friendly

My sister and I and our 5 children visited the design studio at the factory shop in Stoke. A very rude member of stuff snapped at the kids to "pipe down" as they were having a meeting in this area. When I complained on email they replied that we had been inadequately supervising the kids. The content of their response was also very rude. I am disgusted as we spent over £40 there. If they were concerned why didn't they ask us politely to be quiet (not that the kids were being loud) or to leave? I would never recommend this as a family friendly environment or buy anything from this brand again.

That's outrageous! I am Sad and Angry on your behalf.
Rude staff really get my goat!

KeepingAwayFromTheJoneses · 23/02/2012 13:02

It would never have occurred to me that a china shop might be a family friendly venue, but thanks for the tip.

Were the prices good?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 23/02/2012 13:03

You went for a day out to a shop? A shop containing lots of ceramics? Why?! Just WHY?!

SoupDragon · 23/02/2012 13:04

Perhaps they were right and you should have been controlling your children better.

JaneMare · 23/02/2012 13:05

what did you get for your £40 btw?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 23/02/2012 13:05

What a thrilling day out.

2 hours of 'don't touch ANYTHING children or mummy will get cross'

And then you take them to the cafe.

Fuck Legoland. Let's all go to china shops.

Next trip: Dartington Crystal

GetOrfMoiiLand · 23/02/2012 13:06

There must be nicer days out in Stoke on Trent.

Methe · 23/02/2012 13:06

It sounds like a thoroughly dull day out anyway.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 23/02/2012 13:07

Isn't Trentham near Stoke? And I'm sure there's a water park there.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 23/02/2012 13:07

Sorry OP - I am not normally a cow lies

But your 'OUTRAGED of Stoke on Trent' OP made me laugh.

ruddynorah · 23/02/2012 13:09

Why did you take your kids there?!

JaneMare · 23/02/2012 13:09

seems NOT, GetOrf

Hmm Grin
miaowmix · 23/02/2012 13:09

I quite like 'pipe down'.
Maybe they did need to pipe down?

marvinthemartian · 23/02/2012 13:10

there;s a ceramic cafe, isn't there? a paint-your-own job.

maybe that's what the OP meant?

we went to the Wedgewood one, with a (severely) autistic 6 year old and a 4 year old, and they loved it (the dc, not Wedgewood Grin)

they also enjoyed the museum bit with all the displays.

If the Op and family were told ot be quiet in a pottery cafe type place, I can't say I'm surprised she is miffed. Aimed at families, but not family friendly - great Hmm

decidedlydizzy · 23/02/2012 13:10

the design studio where you can paint your own plate etc... is specifically aimed at young children, they even hold toddler mornings here. The studio is away from the shop. £40 included x3 studio fees plus x3 eggcups, then some other bits in the sale in the shop. I don't normally go to china shops with young children and they were behaving just fine IMHO, besides which that isn't the point. Rudeness is never justified.

Emma Bridgwater Ltd

"Enjoy a day out at our delighful Victorian working factory. Relax in the kitchen cafe by the Aga, Take a factory tour, Decorate your own masterpiece in the studio, Visit our little garden, Shop for factory seconds and amazing gifts."

Oh the thrills never start end.

OP you put a dirty nappy in the AGA didn't you? DIDN'T YOU?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 23/02/2012 13:12

Ah, then you are right and justified in being peeved.

marriednotdead · 23/02/2012 13:12

It's much nicer when you buy it from a nice shiny store instead of a grotty looking pot bank.

You pays extra for the service, innit.

I don't blame you for being hacked off. Hate rudeness especially aimed at my precious DCs. Smile
