Hi there! I'm just looking for some advice about flying to Peru (Lima), is it possible to get a direct flight from the UK, or should I transfer at Amsterdam/Paris or something?
No experience of travelling outisde of Europe so any tips would be much appreciated, thankyou! :)

YOu can check flights on a site like expedia.co.uk but will prob have to change. for long-haul, you may prefer to make the change at the Europe end, eg Amsterdam, Madrid, rather than having to do it on the other side of the Atlantic, eg Miami, Rio, and still have a few hours' flight left after the transfer.

Whatever you do, make very, very sure that you get an insurance policy that will cover you for ANY medical treatment, including potential med-evac, and check out what inoculations you might need in advance. If you're going to the Amazon, you may also need malaria prophylactics which you start taking a while before you go.

That's great, thanks very much! I'm looking at changing in Madrid, and I'll check with my GP asap about any vaccinations.

No direct flights as far as I know. As jkklpu says, Madrid is a likely transfer airport. And it is a very good airport. Definitely avoid changing in the US.

Make sure you leave enough time to make your connection in Madrid - it is as big as Heathrow, and whether or not you have to change terminals makes a big difference - sometimes you have to redo security checks. Take some food for the Madrid Lima section - last time I flew you didn't get a meal till an hour before you landed, by which time everyone was starving.

When I went my options were changing at Amsterdam or Miami.
