Dp and I have been to Gran Alacant which is close to the airport. We're thinking of taking ds2 in June (when ds1 is away with school) for a week in Spain. I fancy somewhere quiet and as dp is learning spanish it's more likely he'd get to use it in a quieter place? We've found when he tries to talk in Spanish the locals just talk back in English. Plus I like to try to say a few things in Spanish.

Anyway, if anyone can recommend somewhere close-ish to the airport that'd be great. We'd like to avoid hiring a car if possible but may have to? TIA

Can you bump please if you read even if you don't know of anywhere Smile

We had a fab time in Javea/ Xabia which is about an hours drive from alicante airport.

Calpe used to be lovely, but then I havent been for about 15 years! I cant remember how far away from the airport it was, about an hour I think.

Also Albir/Altea but they may be a bit close to Benidorm for you.

Thanks I'll have a look at those places. An hour is good Smile

We went to Alicante area about 2years ago, with DS (4ish at time), we stayed near Guardamar del Segura in a nice villa which was unfortunately on a 'british' type estate (english bars, chinese/indian restaurants etc). The villa and scenery etc were lovely, just not what we were looking for. We did have a good time and travelled around so saw a lot of the area.

We really liked the area further south, towards Murcia, San Pedro del Pinatar was lovely and very 'spanish'. Its maybe slightly over an hour from Alicante airport (nearer to Murcia). Also the 'Mar Menor' sea beside is a lagoon so warmer and calmer than open sea, it was lovely! We will definately go back there.

We stayed http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/spain/s8014.htm here in Javea - nice little villa on a traditional Spanish gated 'complex' (older villas, though, not new flats). We went in April/May and was nice and quiet with a great beach. Villa very child friendly too.

Lots of the villas around us were Spanish-owned so maybe more chance of getting some language practice in?

Apologies for the hijack OP!
