I can see some of the other Universities have a thread so thought I'd set one up for Warwick too :). DC is looking forward to starting in September and will be studying History BA.

@Fabfabfab, yes thank you, DS is very happy with the Townhouses and like yours is getting properly excited now, which is great to see.

Hope your DS hears soon, @BalkerneBaby. Like @pinkdelight, I saw that quite a few people are still waiting. Warwick seems to send out accommodation allocations in waves.

@poppybuttons, do you know if they need to have applied for their IT accounts to be able to do the accommodation induction, or are these completely different systems? Thank you also for the FB recommendation.

@yoosername, the duvet tog recommendation is very helpful, I do remember the halls being very hot, even back in the day. I wonder if that’s the case across campus or if the newer ones like the Townhouses might be different?

Yes it was his first choice. He loved Cryfield and put Cryfield Standard as second choice. Really happy for him and feel for those who haven't been allocated campus accommodation. I’m sure it’ll all end up OK for them, but really if you choose a campus uni you expect to be on campus in year one don’t you.

And fingers crossed Cyber puts him in a good place at the end of three years! Not many unis offer it and Warwick is the most highly ranked.

Hi All. Glad to have found this thread. DD has been allocated off campus accommodation and is very deflated. Really surprised she didn't get any of her choices. She's trying to make the most of it, but I worry this won't be the fun, social first year experience she imagined when she chose a campus uni. Hopefully there will be lots of other Warwick freshers in her accommodation.

@CarlaSunwas she through clearing? Did she get to choose which off campus she wanted? We are still waiting for an allocation….

My DC had to wait for a remark which gained 5 missed marks. In the meantime he missed out on the accommodation ballot and will be given private halls off campus. They look good but has anybody got experience of social side of these and transport in to campus?

@Keenwalkerwe are still waiting. Happy to be off campus if ones nearby. Do not want to end up in Coventry though. I’m assuming they will just walk in it’s not that far really. DS has a car but don’t think he’ll want to try and take it in first year anyway.

Warwick was DDs insurance uni and was automatically accepted on results day. She submitted her accommodation application before the deadline. After being allocated off campus there was a choice of 3 accommodations. DD went with the closest, which looks good facility wise, but the distance is the drawback.

How is everyone getting on? Any accommodation updates from those waiting? Feels a bit strange that it's still 4 weeks to go, with lots of DC's friends off to Exeter and other places much sooner. He's been so preoccupied with his GF leaving the country that he hasn't signed up to Unibuddy yet so or looked at all his uni emails. He's registered at least, and has had his 2 meningitis jabs, been to the dentist and is starting thinking about which laptop to buy.

Fingers crossed you get some good news soon. Have you looked at the nearby partnership accommodation just in case? It actually looks much nicer than the Uni halls and is only a 15 min walk.

DC also has a car but the recommendations from people here is not to bring it. £8 is quite a lot to pay each day to park on campus, although maybe if they carshare if they live off campus they could share the cost with friends and then it would probably be worth it.

@fabfabfab great that your DS has JM - can practically roll out of bed into the FAB.

Sharing parking costs with friends / flatmates for upper years sounds like a good idea.

🤞for those still waiting. DD is gradually warming to her off campus accommodation. Found some tongue in cheek challenges online from students aiming for sub 15mins walking time

We eventually got Longwood which he is happy with, actually quite a bit cheaper and nicer looking than some of the on campus accommodation he had applied for anyway. He is thinking about taking a bike with him especially for the gym and football etc and possibly Tescos.

@geogerwhat does term 3 look like for History? I understand they don’t have exams so does this mean they will be there til end of term doing assignments which seems to be early July? That seems much later than other unis in my (limited!) experience. Thanks

@BalkerneBaby Nice! Lots of posts on FB and Reddit about how swish Longwood and Oaks are with private gyms and communal areas like hotels. Eyeing them up for next year already! And sure your DS will be with lots of first years in their block too so it'll have its own community as well as being very close to campus.

DD was finished by the beginning of May. No exams but lots of deadlines to meet with essays and the dissertation to hand in. They’ll need to be super organised and get their heads down for the last few weeks

@BalkerneBaby Longwood looks lovely and I imagine it will only be Warwick students there so should be a great experience. I think the halls in Coventry would be less ideal but the ones nearby are more or less the same as being on campus - and much nicer!

@geoger that seems earlier than I had thought. Do some of them stay on for social events or is that typically when they come home?

@Fabfabfab DD stayed on a few days after the final deadlines to celebrate and then came home as she a big holiday booked.
Graduation was on 31st July and was just for history students.

Thank you @geoger. I wonder why it says July on their website, maybe that's for other courses. July sounds exceptionally late though. Glad they are not at Exeter where apparently most of the students come back before Easter and don't go back.

@Fabfabfab having had 1 dc at Bristol and 1 dc at Warwick the way the teaching is spread over the year differs between unis. Warwick has 3 terms and in the summer term there is some teaching then exams and then things like the sports ball and some musical / dance shows - this tends to end by late June. Warwick has a decent break at Easter whilst places like Bristol / Exeter have a much shorter break. Warwick seems much better value for money and you don’t start paying 2nd year rent until August unlike Bristol where we’ve been paying since early July for an empty house.

In my experience, formal teaching will only extend two or possibly three weeks into the summer term at the latest. There may be none. Courses with exams will usually have revision lectures. Coursework may need to be submitted. Some exams can be very late in the term, June not July, although the majority will be finished well before that.

Warwick has relatively short terms and long vacations compared to many universities.

@BalkerneBaby we also got Longwood and I'm surprised by how amazing the rooms and facilities look. My DC doesn't mind a 15 min walk and so far is very pleased.

yes we’ve not seen it in real life yet but it looks nice to me! Far nicer than my other kids accommodations! He’s quite laid back anyway so was not concerned about it being a short walk in.
