I can see some of the other Universities have a thread so thought I'd set one up for Warwick too :). DC is looking forward to starting in September and will be studying History BA.

Thanks, are they able to store kitchenware in the kitchen? It might sound a silly question but when I was at uni in the 90’s we kept our stuff in our rooms.

First choice accommodation here too - Cryfield townhouses!

@pinkdelight, Cryfield standard was on DS’s list too, the Cryfield village is so well located and seems to have great facilities.

@Gloschick, Lakeside is beautiful! @Madmoomoo, even back in my own Warwick days, I never knew an unhappy or lonely Rootes student, and as others have said, it’s great value and centrally located too.

We went into Rootes on the OHD and there was lots of kitchenware in the kitchen we saw (tidy and well-organised though).

Yes of course, they have a cupboard (may be 2) and drawer in the kitchen and microwave etc was provided. She kept a box in her room with spare pasta, tea bags etc that she couldn’t fit in the cupboard. She bought a box to go under her bed with her spare bed linen in and there is lots of other storage space and a massive cupboard under the sink.

Good luck to your ds studying history. Our dd just graduated in history from Warwick this year. Great course with some really interesting units. Make sure your ds picks his units as soon as they are released or he might miss out, also lots of the seminars carrying a participation grade so he’ll need to do the reading and contribute to discussions. Highly, highly recommend the semester/year in Venice - such an amazing experience and dd says it’s the best thing ever!

Do you happen to know when they get the information about picking their units? Sounds like it's worth being organised and prepared.

DC got Jack Martin - very happy to be on campus! Seems very central and quite a lot cheaper than some of the other halls, although not ideal having to move out over Easter.

Hi! My DS had a great time in JM this year. The location is so convenient for the cost. Regarding the move out for Easter, yes it was a bit of a nuisance as they need to fully vacate - including all kitchen items too - by 10am on the Saturday morning after the last day of term, but they were allowed to store as much as they could fit in the padlocked cupboard above their wardrobe. It helped to have a mate in a different accom who stored all his kitchen stuff to save us hauling it all home and back. Best wishes to your DC for all their adventures to come. @yoosername thank you, that's so kind! Do you know if the beds are small double e.g. does that mean 120x190cm? Keen to get him a Panda mattress topper. How warm are the rooms at JM? Not sure what tog duvet to get him.

I'm surprised they use JM for conferences over Easter as it would make more sense to use the newer, more modern halls. At least it means we save some money and good idea storing the kitchen items at a friend's.

Tell your ds to keep an eye on history dept emails - info about dates and units etc is shared in advance.
Glad to hear your ds is thinking of Venice - an amazing opportunity, imagine attending lectures overlooking the Grand Canal. Info about Venice is shared in Year 2 and students are given help finding accommodation too (dd shared with 3 friends in Dosoduro). We went with her to help her settle in and to carry an extra suitcase

as for the duvet, he was plenty warm enough for the first two terms with this Ikea 7.5 tog which seemed a lot warmer than I expected. The 4.0tog was ample for the start of the summer term. My DD is heading into second year and loved her first year, sure it is on the list but a fan was an essential for her. They had two or three red weather warnings before the end of term and the halls were mega hot. When I did end of year collection I was shocked at the temp of her friends top floor room 🥵 Hope they all settle in well.

If you want a Thursday or Friday you can go ahead and plan for those days as they get less booked up than the weekend.

If your dc is quite “on it” and completes the induction as soon as they get the link then they will be able to get a time slot on the day of your choice. It’s all very well organised.

Has anyone else not heard abt accommodation yet? I am panicking about this, DS is remarkably laid back. I would like to start the shopping! Don’t mind if campus if it’s the ones close by but really don’t want anything in Coventry.
