DS got his first choice of Van Mildert, though Durham is the insurance choice so it feels more hypothetical. Mustn't forget Bath accommodation application but like you Aunty Bulgaria the deadline isn't for a while and A levels are the more immediate focus

bettyjane · 03/06/2026 14:05

We managed to visit loads of colleges between open day and offer holder day, and we were really impressed with the friendliness of Trevs. It seemed like a great college and would have been high on DDs list - although it was wasted research for us as she didn’t end up picking Durham!

What does your DS like about Van Mildert? Asking as my DC got this too despite it being half-way down his list. We didn't visit on the OHD so no idea what it's actually like. I'm pleased he got catered accommodation at least.

Complete University Guide for 2027 is now available

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see Durham (DC's firm) second on the list for History!

He wanted hill (near to his dept), and catered, and not too small - and he liked the lake with ducks on!

That's great to hear, really wish we had visited more of the Hill colleges but it was a pretty full on day already. We went to Mary's and Collingwood but didn't get any further up the hill! DC wanted one of the more historical looking colleges on the Bailey but think Van Mildert might be better suited to him than some of the smaller colleges anyway as it's larger, more sociable and good for sport, so I'm sure it will be great in the end.

@Fabfabfabmy DS will also be studying History and has been allocated Van Mildert! 😊 (if he gets the grades of course!!)

That's great, how lovely to find another historian here with the same university, and the same college allocation! Where did he put VM on his rankings? Think my DC put it as 7th. Yes, really hope they get the grades they need. Think it's strange that Durham have higher grades than UCL and most other top 10 Universities. How is your DC getting on so far with his exams? My DC has one left (history 3) next week.

He put it as his first choice so he’s really pleased! We also know someone who went there and she raved about it (I guess everyone loves their own
college though). He also wanted a biggish catered college and one where there was a low chance of sharing a room. So it fitted the bill.

He has Politics 2 and History 3 next week and then Politics 3 the week after. Finishes on the 16th. He is done with the endless revision I think & cannot wait for it all to be over. The heatwave week didn’t help matters - crossing fingers it doesn’t return until exams are over!

Anyone else with a Durham offer holder? Preliminary College allocations have started dropping this afternoon. DD got her first choice of St John’s. Just really hoping and praying now that it doesn’t change after results day.

One here…DS received his prelim allocation to St John’s also.

mumonthehill · 10/06/2026 09:16

Just a quick hope everyone is ok! The end is in sight!

NellyNoMates · 10/06/2026 13:46

One more to go here - next Monday. Thinking of all the pupils here in NI who are sitting exams this week in the midst of unrest. Many schools closed early today to allow pupils to get home safely before more protests kicked off. Of course exams are ongoing so pupils have been told to make their way to school asap before any roads are blocked. I’m really hoping it’s all calmed down before DD’s last one on Monday

EducatingRosemary · 10/06/2026 14:10

Sorry for all the added stress for them @NellyNoMates 😔

Penultimate exam done and a week gap here now then final one on Tuesday next week!

Just wondering whether any DC that have chosen Warwick has submitted their choice of halls yet? DS is finding it a bit overwhelming or perhaps he feels it is a bit like tempting fate to make his choices.

I wished he'd do it soon so that it's done and can be forgotten.

There is a Facebook group called Warwick University Parents Group and someone posted re selecting accommodation 3 days ago and it got a some comments.
My dc got Rootes (3 years ago) and it was very social and fun.

Good luck for everyone sitting more exams today!

Further maths for DS. His last one 🎉

He has decided to defer his pace at Warwick @AuntyBulgaria so we’re not doing anything more with student finance or accommodation.

This is very good news for students in England and Wales. ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2026/06/12/who-is-eligible-for-the-new-one-off-menb-vaccine-programme/?fbclid=IwdGRleASYmV5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEetstDKFtdgkfxZg4mdP8ksSMxNe0Eu4Y1U2kLvZJ9fQPycEimKQYs4HncCdI_aem_7Db7_74OPzQONZ_dp97Sug

The Men B vaccine is also being offered in Scotland and NI too for the same age group. DD was actually booked in to get hers done privately next week after her last exam but we’ll cancel now if the NHS will offer it for free

ComingInByAnsible · Today 11:57

@AuntyBulgaria, DS submitted his Warwick halls preferences, although reading about how they are allocated (randomly after places are confirmed), it shouldn’t make a difference when the choices go in as long as it’s before the August deadline.

Wish Exeter (DS’ insurance) were like that - that seems much more stressful as they don’t guarantee anything to insurance applicants!
