Someone has to be the OP and I have no fate to tempt now in this journey.

Congratulations to all the Oxford offer holders. Some lovely stories yesterday afternoon.

Comiserations to those who had different news yesterday. I hope your DC are doing ok and beginning to look positively towards their other options.

Good luck to everyone waiting for news from Cambridge on 28th January.

And hello to all the Oxbridge observers - alumni, parents of past and future applicants. It is always a thread of highs and lows and it was a privilege to be a small part of it for this cycle.

OP posts:

Good luck to all those getting Cambridge decisions today. The wait is finally over for everyone.

IDontFeelLikeCooking · 28/01/2026 08:26

Good luck everybody.

I’m just glad the waiting will soon be over!

Satsuma55 · 28/01/2026 08:42

It's a rejection here 😢

pinkdelight · 28/01/2026 08:44

Oh shit, sorry about that Satsuma. Rotten way for your day to start, but the start of better things to come...

OxbridgeThreadName · 28/01/2026 08:49

Sorry @Satsuma55

do you mind me asking what college?

anxious wait in this house.

It was for maths at Trinity.

Wow. Amazing to get an interview - probably one of the toughest college/subjects combinations. It’s such an achievement to get an interview.

still waiting here for PS NatSci at Caius. It’s so hard.

Yes, the process really does suck you in and you have to be so invested in order to make the application. Everyone knows it’s offer day and it’s probably asking how you got on. It’s really tough. I’m determined not to think of labelling DD as a ‘Cambridge reject’. Yes, she applied but there are four other applications on the go she has a career in mind and it was just one of five options to take her forward with that career.

Yet, here I am starting the Oxbridge continuation thread! There is something special about it and I remember reading something on Mumsnet, probably about this time last year, about how there is a sadness that comes with not being part of the special Oxbridge group anymore. Really nothing to do with the reality of which university and course but a loss of being part of a community that you were a part of until suddenly you are not.

The thing you really have to bear in mind, though, is that Oxbridge really is not the be-all and end-all. My nephew got a 1st at Oxford, went to St Andrews for an MA and is now doing a PhD. He really was not impressed with his teachers at Oxford and thought St Andrews was infinitely better.

Sorry to hear that, but wow to get an interview at Trinity for maths!! Am watching but resigned to reporting news v late - lunchtime Friday - as DS is adamant that he won‘t look until mocks are over (and he can drown sorrows/celebrate at start of his birthday weekend

BurnoutGP · 28/01/2026 09:24

Good luck everyone. Am resigned to disappointment here as an offer will likely be a deferred one and she has already decided she won't take it. She has decided not to go to school today. Her school already has 5 oxford offers and a number waiting today and she can't bear being asked publicly 😬 state school BTW

Sorry to hear that

pinkdelight · 28/01/2026 09:27

Extraordinary to have so many offers at the school @BurnoutGP (is it selective or just lucky?), can see why she wants to lie low. Fair play and good luck to her! I tried to get my DS to stay home this morn as he has no lessons till pm, but he'd rather act like a normal day and do private study. So I'm trying to do likewise and work but damn it's distracting waiting to hear.

O2HaveALittleHouse · 28/01/2026 09:28

Looks like Trinity was first off the mark to communicate across all subjects as people were getting them as early as 8am. Sorry to hear that your DC didn’t get an offer @Satsuma55 .

Not selective but quite highly rated state school. They always have a lot of oxbridge applicants but usually only 1-2 offers so this is a very good year. One of the Oxfords is medicine so he has done exceptionally well

Sophomore · 28/01/2026 09:30

Good luck to everyone waiting and sorry to hear your news @Satsuma55 . I agree with pp that even to get an interview is a huge achievement in maths.

Satsuma55 · 28/01/2026 09:42

He's going to apply for reconsideration in August... which means he'll have to take STEP. I'm praying for an offer from Imperial.
I don't know how much more of this I can stand.

Out of interest, why won't she take a deferred place, @BurnoutGP?

lanadelgrey · 28/01/2026 09:56

@Satsuma55 everything crossed for an Imperial offer, this is definitely a rollercoaster that I want to be off in many ways too. DS will be looking for LSE if it’s a no from C. I know that’s a late one as well and really competitive. DD moved in quickly from C rejection as she already had offer from v strong choice

OctopusSting · 28/01/2026 09:56

DD2 got an offer from Trinity for HSPS (A*, A, A) at 8.20 this morning 😮. Was not expecting it that early!

I also have experience from the other side as DD1 was rejected last year after interview for History at Oxford. She’s having a lovely time at Exeter now 😊

Good luck to everyone else waiting 🤞

BurnoutGP · 28/01/2026 10:07

Congrats to the offers and empathy for the no's. We seem to have a no overall here email from her original college implying this. What a roller coaster. I think we are both relieved to know how. Luckily she has 4 other excellent offers and her 2nd choice is good offer. She's clearly very disappointed but at least we know.

Doesn't matter now as a no but mental health/ND/friends just made her feel it wouldn't be good for her.

God it's such a roller coaster. Hope he gets imperial offer. We have a kings offer so looks like I'll be working a few more years. Cost of accommodation is eye watering

IDontFeelLikeCooking · 28/01/2026 10:16

It’s a no here from
Jesus college . DS disappointed today of course but long term Durham will suit his so much better (if he gets an offer that is!).

Best of luck to all our young people.

WhereAreWeNow · 28/01/2026 10:16

The waiting is killing me! DD doesn't regularly check her phone at 6th form and she's not great at remembering to text me. I think she's got a full timetable of lessons this morning so I probably won't hear until lunch time.

It's all very expensive..luckily I'm very poor, so my kids get the bursaries and stuff 😂
Good luck to your girl ♥. Onwards and upwards.
