Industrial placements

How are your DC getting on with arranging these? It seems like every placement is so competitive and really it is very lucky if a student is able to organise a placement that is relevant to their degree. Or do you have a son or daughter that found and completed a placement ....any advice gratefully appreciated ☺️

I thinknits still worth trying. Lots coming up still and the pool of applicants will be much smaller / less competitive.

Thanks @Africa2go and @Shimy
I told him to try anyway, nothing to lose and so on.
@Shimy can you recommend a site for those practice tests please?

Ahhh no, that’s such a shame. All that bloody hard work!! I really feel for him as I know how despondent DD was becoming. What industry was he looking at? I can’t recall.
As shimy says he can hopefully dust himself down, work hard on getting the best degree possible and all that applying & process will absolutely make a difference when it comes to grad jobs. Not sure if he has a part time job already? It definitely enable DD to say a lot at interviews. Interestingly the applications she got furthest with had real people interviewing her and not a computer.

@foghead oh it’s definitely worth him still trying. I hadn’t realised they were still opening up. He’ll be good ant the blinking process now and honed his skills. Albeit he’s probably hitting exam season and needs to consider if he can juggle both. They are time consuming. What industry is he looking at?

@foghead Just seen your post. I'll ask ds when he comes home but in the meantime (i think he also uses this):

From the studentRoom:

Psychometric Tests - buy 'JobTestPrep', split it if you have to and practice, practice, practice. It's best to find the specific provider/firm you are going to take the test from and practice that test, since they all vary slightly. Generally, there is no good, free practice available, but if you cannot afford JTP, your uni may have access to a test practice provider like Graduates First.

Generally, tests are there to see if you fit the culture of the firm or have a minimum level of psychometric (numerical, logical, verbal etc.) ability.

In addition, I know ds also did a lot of test practice from the company websites of places he applied to because as said above, they all vary. A lot of companies now put test samples on their site that candidates can practice with so that's a another good source.

@MarshaBradyo here’s the placement thread I was mentioning and if you go back to the start there’s a lot of discussion re engineering placements
