@Mytholmroyd There are three dates for York offer holder days. I know there is one in Feb and also March 9 and 16th.

Great - thankyou. He's going to Aberystwyth on 9th March - was worried they would clash and he'd miss the York one but there are alternative options at least!

UZS · 25/01/2024 06:58

Son received offer (A*AA) from Durham for History yesterday

Also, was rejected from Cambridge.

Waiting on St. Andrews. Has offers from Bristol and Exeter as well (AAA)

He's unsure about First and Insurance and hasn't even visited Durham or Exeter. Will be somewhat difficult to attend these Offer Holder Days I'm hearing about as now through A Levels is maximum revision.

Any first hand feedback on Durham, Bristol or Exeter especially for History would be lovely.

SuccessM · 25/01/2024 07:52

Congratulations to everyone with offers .So sorry for the rejections, It's very heartbreaking. Sometime in December I posted in the old thread that my daughter got rejected from LSE for Economics and then she got a Warwick offer for Economics which made up for the LSE rejection. Yesterday she got offer for Economics from University of Cambridge Trinity College. Just want to encourage everyone whose DD or DS got rejection from one uni or the other, I know how terrible it feels but please keep hope alive, the right uni will come. Good luck to all that are still waiting. My Daughter now has Bristol, Warwick and Cambridge, LSE rejection . Now waiting for the last one.

ginuine · 25/01/2024 08:23

Congrats to her @SuccessM. LSE is a weird one as they expect them to tailor their PS precisely to their own specific course spec on the website and it's all about the PS.

SuccessM · 25/01/2024 08:43

@ginuine thanks a lot. Yes, so weird indeed! They mentioned that they rejected her because of her personal statement. Her teacher was upset at the time because she said, she read the personal statement and it was good. She even contacted them to know what was wrong with the personal statement but they said there was no one to talk to her and asked her to call back in 3 days time but I don't know whether she called back or not. I was too down with the rejection at the time to ask. I was so down with that rejection for days. My daughter actually handled it better than me. She said, mum, it showed that it's not the right uni for me.

Hi - I have seen this somewhere on the thread but if your DS has an offer for a University (not firmed or insured as yet) but would like to change the course from a single honours to a joint honours (same original subject + one other), is this easily done and how do you go about it? Thanks so much.

economicsapp · 25/01/2024 09:31

@SuccessM many congrats to your daughter!! My DD was also rejected by LSE - but just got into Oxford. Maybe LSE need to start interviewing - like Imperial do for their new Economics course, rather than just relying on a personal statement...

It's not necessarily easily done, will depend on the course but the process is easy enough - you email uni admissions individually and ask. DD did this before firming and insuring and all unis let her, two got back straight away, one made her wait, one was a bit weird about it and can't remember what eventually happened but that was never a strong option for her anyway. Anyway, she's now doing joint hons

BaileysAllRound · 25/01/2024 10:59

Glad of the info about York offer holder days, DD has an offer (from before Christmas) and wanted to go see it as we didn't make it to an Open day. She's also denying all knowledge of any emails but rarely checks them so I'll prod her again.
we are still waiting on Exeter and Manchester for offers in finance/accounting.

speedyhedgehog · 25/01/2024 11:07

I have been lurking on this thread, my triplets are applying this year. dd got her application in in October for medicine, the boys finally got theirs in in early and mid/late January! Yesterday dd had her last interview and both boys got their first offer! what a day. One ds got 2 offers in actually. I am really, really hoping they all get an offer somewhere. Then it'll be meeting the offers. Bless of luck to all the dc!

Lightsabre · 25/01/2024 11:10

Wow, super stressful @speedyhedgehog , three for medicine! They've done well and hope you get to relax a bit once your dd has an offer in too.

reflectandrefresh · 25/01/2024 11:11

@Umbilicate thanks so much. If they say no, is the original offer taken away or does this stay secure ?

Umbilicate · 25/01/2024 11:24

No, they can't take away the original offer - you're completely safe to ask.

speedyhedgehog · 25/01/2024 11:30

@lightsabre no the boys haven't applied for medicine. They have applied for computer science (triplet 3) and finance (triplet 1) I was surprised how quickly they got an offer in. It was so nice they got their first one on the same day albeit a bit tough for their sister but at least she was celebrating finishing her interviews so everyone was happy. Always the goal!

Mytholmroyd · 25/01/2024 11:39

@UZS Offers from Durham Exeter and Bristol is excellent! I would try to get him to visit though - even if he can't make an organised offer holder day he can still visit later and wander around the campus, the colleges and city. I work at Durham and we often get requests from the office to show individual students around the Department when they are visiting. Always happy to do that!

He might take an instant dislike to somewhere or just fall in love with a place

JediKnightingale · 25/01/2024 11:45

@speedyhedgehog Where have your boys applied to? My DS is comp Sci and only has one offer so far (York)and I admit to getting nervous for him!

Absentadditive · 25/01/2024 12:17

Hello,

Congratulations to everyone who has offers so far.

Decided to join you for a bit of support, my daughter is still waiting on 3/5 decisions so we are getting a bit angtsy (is that even a word?) here now.

Mytholmroyd · 25/01/2024 12:21

I wouldn't worry yet @Absentadditive every university and even Departments within a university do admissions their own way and the deadline for applications isn't until 31st - some places wait until they have all the applications in before they select students others do it as they go.

speedyhedgehog · 25/01/2024 12:24

@jediknightingale my ds for computer science has applied to sheffield, nottingham, surrey, salford and loughborough. He's had offers from sheffield (aaa) and salford (bbb or equivalent). Do our boys have any in common? Other ds has applied for finance/ banking and finance at exeter, manchester met, portsmouth, sheffield hallam and Anglia ruskin. His offer came from Anglia ruskin unconditional. Which was a big surprise. That was expected to be ccc and his lowest ask.

JediKnightingale · 25/01/2024 12:33

@speedyhedgehog My DS looked at Sheffield and Nottingham but didn’t quite gel with them. He liked Sheffields CS course very much but really did not like the city (which seemed completely irrelevant to me as he will never go out anywhere!). Anyway he picked York, Bath, St Andrews, Southampton and Durham. Good luck to your boys - a Sheffield CS offer is amazing, well done to him!

speedyhedgehog · 25/01/2024 12:38

@jediknightingale thank you! I have an older ds at southampton and he's very happy there. Ds also looked seriously at southampton but swapped it with sheffield at the last minute! All great courses I'm sure our ds will be happy wherever they end up.

SuccessM · 25/01/2024 12:50

@economicsapp thanks a lot. Big congratulations to your DD for the Oxford offer. So sorry about the LSE rejection. I believe the Oxford offer made it up for your DD. It is LSE loss. They really need to stop putting all weight on personal statement. To think of all the hard work all our children put in writing these personal statements only to get rejected based on it and same personal statement is good enough for 3 or 4 other competitive universities. LSE really need a re-think.

WriterOfWrongs · 25/01/2024 13:54

Respect @speedyhedgehog ! If I had 3 DC applying for university at the same time, with one applying for medicine with all its extra bells and whistles to boot, I'd be spending a lot of time lying down in a darkened room Grin

Yes! 😂
This last one has been a lot less stressful than the previous three As he is extremely single minded and know exactly what he wants to do. But more than one a year must be a nightmare!

PumpkinKnitter · 25/01/2024 16:38

Congratulations to your boys on their offers@speedyhedgehog, and fingers crossed for DD 🤞

Don’t worry @Absentadditive some just take longer than others. DD applied in October and is still waiting on one (Sod’s Law, it is the one she most wants!)
