That’s so tremendous @hertsessex, you and she must be thrilled! So lovely to have that confirmed so early too, compared to A levels. Fab!

Thank you. A few downsides to IB but that is one upside :) Lots of friends missed offers for various places so a great relief. Also DD1 didn't even get an Oxford interview so nice if one of our kids goes to Oxbridge (although DD1 ended up overseas at an equivalent place)

Ironoaks · 10/07/2023 14:39

@Hertsessex congratulations to her on having her place confirmed!

HoneyMobster · 10/07/2023 15:40

Welcome @Hertsessex - DD did IB last year and she also knew people who missed their Cambridge offers. Some of the offers are terribly high. Your DD has done very well!

HoneyMobster · 10/07/2023 15:41

I've done it the opposite way to you @Hertsessex - I have two at Oxford and one off to an Ivy this year.

pantjog · 10/07/2023 17:48

So, so happy and relieved that DD1, after all her ups and downs, has got her results and all is well. Looking forward with great anticipation to her graduation at the end of the month. It seems like a lifetime ago that she began, but also no time at all. Tempus fugit etc.

Ironoaks · 10/07/2023 17:51

@pantjog that's wonderful news - enjoy the graduation

goodbyestranger · 10/07/2023 18:29

Fantastic news pantjog! Incredibly well done her :)

ProggyMat · 10/07/2023 18:32

Fabulous news @pantjog!
Congratulations to your DD.

goodbyestranger · 10/07/2023 18:40

I see a well done due to Hertsessex DD as well :) I suppose this early call is one bonus of the IB at least.

HoneyMobster · 10/07/2023 21:33

Hurray @pantjog - very well deserved

HewasH20 · 10/07/2023 21:50

@pantjog Brilliant news for you all

Panicmode1 · 11/07/2023 06:39

Many congrats to your dd @pantjog , enjoy celebrating!

JulesJules · 11/07/2023 07:58

Brilliant news @pantjog well done her.

@mutterphore D1 (History joint Oxford) says if they do not hear which category of marking they are in, they will just get their results as (previously) normal. Exam boards for history were last week, so they should hear this week or by 19th at the latest.

Strange to me is the idea of getting a private email with your results and then never having to tell anyone if you don't want to. In my day (old gimmer) they went up on the public noticeboards outside!

HewasH20 · 11/07/2023 12:36

My professional exam results were published in the Times. You had passed if your name was there, otherwise you had failed.

Clemenc0 · 11/07/2023 13:03

@HewasH20 I remember my degree being published in the Times back in 1982. I have the cutting somewhere.

In other news DS is now living in the centre of London and has started a casual job working in a national museum cafe in South Kensington; a job he applied for on Saturday. First steps to independence with a modicum of support from us. It is my flat that I use a few nights/week for work.

HewasH20 · 11/07/2023 15:05

Sadly I think that the trials and tribulations of finding accommodation anywhere within affordable range of London are going to prove a barrier for many these days. DD's best friend has a job with a ridiculous starting salary in asset management, but can't find anywhere to live, so will have to commute from the south coast each day.

Tell me about it. DS is at RCM and been in dorm up to now which is not cheap. Now looking to rent privately with friends from September. Expensive and very difficult to find. Currently homeless from September.

pantjog · 11/07/2023 17:05

Thanks for all the kind wishes!

@JulesJules I completely agree re the vagueness and informality of the results process nowadays. Neither of my DDs were told when to expect their results. But the faculty must know because there must be deadlines and examiners' meetings. Back in the last millennium, my results were definitely posted outside Schools but I think my tutor must have phoned me... I don't really remember very much about it. (I'm showing, not telling, my old gimmer-ness.)

Malbecfan · 11/07/2023 21:20

Congratulations @pantjog - fantastic news.

Welcome @Hertsessex to this weird and wonderful journey.

mutterphore · 12/07/2023 05:58

@pantjog congratulations to your DD1 on getting her degree! Hope there are lots of celebrations going on for her well deserved success.

@Hertsessex also congrats. to your DD on her IB results and confirmed place and welcome to this thread.

@JulesJules thanks for that insight into Oxford History results. DS2 is clearly getting anxious about his results but hasn't heard anything, so I'm assuming when he gets them, it'll be his actual rather than provisional degree grade. We're currently away on holiday doing lots of cycling and sea swimming, which is great and just what we all need.

DS1, meanwhile, remains relaxed about the increasing possibility that he'll never be awarded his Cambridge degree because if the marking boycott, whilst I feel even more angry and frustrated on his behalf.

I too remember the days of seeing your Oxbridge degree results in The Times and having to telephone my tutor to ask for my degree class and everything being made public. Better that, though, than not being awarded a degree at all, like many students are now facing because of the marking strikes.

nearlyemptynes · 12/07/2023 08:27

My DS is away on a choir tour with his college chapel choir - so lovely to see how relaxed he looks in the photos after 3 years of stress. He is still waiting to see if his 2.2 is enough to get on his masters course.

HewasH20 · 12/07/2023 12:07

The vast majority of PPEists are graduating without a classification. They are being given access to paper by paper marks, but most have been put into category 3 as they have no politics marks. Some have been told that they are in category 4 (unable to graduate) and a few are in category 1 with an actual classification.

goodbyestranger · 12/07/2023 13:04

Are those in Cat 1 the undergrads who dropped all Politics papers for Finals H20?

HewasH20 · 12/07/2023 13:54

That's right. There can't have been many who only took econ & phil. At least the majority share the uncertainty.
