I've heard Newcastle and Reading are doing this.

Any others?

Last year Cardiff did this. No idea about this year though

HairinaBeaHive · 19/01/2023 18:14

Thanks.

I think Lancaster too.

DD is trying to decide on a 5th uni to put on form.

Uni of Nottingham have, for Physics

clary · 19/01/2023 18:37

Dd had lower offers if firmed from Lincoln and Birmingham. This was four years ago tho. Also I imagine it depends on the course. And other factors.

Decorhate · 19/01/2023 18:46

Lincoln are offering some unconditionals this year.

MinnesotaMuffin · 19/01/2023 18:53

I thought unis were strongly discouraged from doing by the Office for Students now?

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/01/2023 18:55

Lancaster and Salford did for DS last year

I think DC had this last year from Birmingham. Put them right off it.

MinnesotaMuffin · 19/01/2023 20:11

I’m fairly sure unis offering unconditional if firm offers risk financial penalties but I’m not so sure about the situation with reduced offer if firm.

Ciri · 19/01/2023 20:33

I think most places are doing this. One grade reduction if firm

MinnesotaMuffin · 19/01/2023 20:44

I suppose one grade below if firm is reassuring to the applicant but I’m not convinced that objectively it is helpful to the applicant in the long term. I suppose it depends how much future employers look at A level grades.

Greatly · 19/01/2023 20:48

Exeter Nottingham and Birmingham all did this for DD. One to two grades.

Ciri · 19/01/2023 20:54

Ds has it from Exeter and lancaster. His predictions are above their standard offers though.

Shimy · 19/01/2023 20:56

Liverpool does and Sussex definitely.

gigglinggirl · 19/01/2023 21:01

Exeter

Wakemeuuuup · 19/01/2023 22:31

Sussex did for ds

PSG · 19/01/2023 22:48

Sussex

HairinaBeaHive · 19/01/2023 22:51

Thanks all.

All of DSs offer have come with a grade reduction if you firm them

RampantIvy · 20/01/2023 08:31

Lincoln are offering some unconditionals this year.

Lincoln are still handing out unconditional offers like sweeties. Lots of parents on the WIWIKAU Facebook page are reporting back that their DC have received an unconditional offer from them. Last year Portsmouth gave out a lot as well.

HairinaBeaHive · 20/01/2023 09:12

Most of the unis off

OP posts:
HairinaBeaHive · 20/01/2023 09:14

Oops sorry!

As I was saying... most of the unis offering DD's course are RG or too far away. She doesn't want to be more than 2 hours from her boyfriend home.

OP posts:
TizerorFizz · 20/01/2023 09:28

Nothing like limiting her career for a boyfriend! At 18! Go to the best university for the course. Always.

thing47 · 20/01/2023 13:32

Agree with @TizerorFizz – wonder what percentage of relationships survive 3 years at university? I've no idea, but very, very few I would imagine.
