I've heard Newcastle and Reading are doing this.

Any others?

As adults we wouldn’t limit uni based on a boyfriend… but our young adults do. That’s life unfortunately. As long as it’s a red brick should be fine. From personal experience, visit first. My son has dropped out as he disliked Lancaster as it’s too quiet for him and is reapplying this year to city universities. Expensive mistake 🙈

No worries, she's a smart girl 🙂

I'm new to the UK system and my child has received an unconditional offer from Lincoln - why would Lincoln be doing this?

Sorry, my post meant to quote@Decorhate

Lincoln is still establishing itself really. They give out a lot of unconditionals both to those with grades in hand and to those who they've just decided they would like to tempt away from other "insurance" universities.

TizerorFizz · 31/01/2023 11:50

Where too many courses are chasing the same young people, they use marketing tools to grab them! Unconditional offers are one and they should be stopped. Lincoln has long been a culprit. Birmingham too. There have been steps taken to try and stop this practice. Also all RG universities are not equal! Lincoln is also not equal to RG. So buyers get confused by marketing!

Because they want bums on seats. Lincoln is one of the worst culprits for doing this.

Because they need the bums on seats to be financially viable. They aren't selective but need to recruit basically.

Nothing like limiting her career for a boyfriend! At 18! Go to the best university for the course. Always.

Absolutely! Makes me so mad/sad/both to see this said so many times and even more so when you note it is generally the girl limiting their options to fit around their boyfriend. I can't recall a time where it is the boy adjusting their plans to suit the gf. And I have 3 boys!

TizerorFizz · 31/01/2023 17:09

@SeasonFinale Yes. It does seem to be gilts who will stay local for this reason. Also some families demand it of their girls.

Pinkdafodils · 31/01/2023 17:18

She doesn't want to be more than 2 hours from her boyfriend

That's really sad especially at 18...!
