Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

I agree @DonnaGiovanna - by not doing them in April (Easter holidays or early term time) they're depriving those who haven't received their offers yet of the chance to view accommodation etc.

Fridayfairy · 10/03/2023 16:32

@DonnaGiovanna my DC has been invited to offer holders days on April 19th & 26th at Cardiff? This is for Education Studies BSc though.

stilldumdedumming · 11/03/2023 07:14

We are off to Goldsmiths today and going to try to hop into Queen Mary while we're at it. Just to see the accommodation.

I'll try not to enrol myself Grin

blametheparents · 11/03/2023 09:17

DD is off to an offer holder day at Southampton today. Likely to be her insurance, but who knows? She might like it the best.

DonnaGiovanna · 11/03/2023 10:32

Have fun at offer holders days. We're in Bristol getting ready for a talk about accommodation 🌁.

WendyWebersdrugget · 11/03/2023 11:13

Enjoy the offer holders’ days today! We’re off to Southampton in a couple of weeks

NotDonna · 11/03/2023 12:53

And another Bath offer last night so that’s all DDs offers in now. 2x Bath, York & Loughborough. Shes missing L’boro offers day today as needs to finalise NEA. Bath’s is in a couple of weeks so will need to decide which taster lecture to taste. She’ll be firming one of Bath’s but not sure which, and probs insure York.
One of the Bath courses is 6 month placement in 2nd year and another 6 month placement in 3rd year so not sure how accom works in this instance.

A quick question for you wise ones. Somewhere I've read about a link which shows the actual points range that universities have accepted students at (i.e. not what they offered, but what they accepted, perhaps in clearing), and for the life of me I can't find it now. Basically, I'm looking to see how realistic my DD's chances might be if she drops a grade or two for an aspirational uni. Thanks!

NotDonna · 11/03/2023 21:22

@sevilla99 Is it complete university guide?

sevilla99 · 12/03/2023 10:19

@NotDonna Thanks, that may be it. I've had a quick look and can't find the info, but I may need to dig deeper. Or maybe I was dreaming!

DinkyDaisy · 12/03/2023 10:51

Is the information on Discover Uni?

MarchingFrogs · 12/03/2023 11:20

I've just done a 'test run' on 'Geography' at Bath Spa, University of Bristol and UEA on Discover Uni and the information given re qualifications on entry seems to include whether A levels (100% for number of people who had provided data at each) or othe level 3 qualification, then the range of UCAS tariff points, which only really tells you just that, given that the upper bound of the range in each case was well in excess of 3 A*. I may have missed something, though?

Travelban · 12/03/2023 11:30

Ucas points though include things like dance, music , drama qualifications, doesn't it? Dd1 has loads of ucas points because of this as have many of her friends ?

sevilla99 · 12/03/2023 12:05

Thanks all. @DinkyDaisy yes, it is Discover Uni, under Entry Information!

NotDonna · 12/03/2023 12:23

Ah well done! I’d forgotten about Discover Uni.

bguthb90 · 12/03/2023 13:15

Always wondered what relevance UCAS points have for RUK applicants. My DS has 4 As at AS level (schools still do them in NI) which gives him a healthy start in points.

However, universities appear to not take these qualifications into account at all - fully understandable given Scottish, Welsh and English schools no longer do them

Buttermilk72 · 12/03/2023 13:59

Does anyone's children have no offers? My son applied last year (3A* Maths, History and Economics predicted) for Bsc Economics. Got no offers, his last rejection was so late there was nothing suitable in UCAS extra and nothing in Clearing.

Oxford
LSE
Durham
UCL
Warwick
This year, he has applied again with 3 achieved A and an additional predicted A in Further Maths. He applied to
Manchester
LSE
Durham
Warwick
Bristol
He has been rejected from Warwick and Bristol so far. We are seriously concerned that we are repeating last year and taking a gap year to do a further A level to get into one of his university choices will be to no avail..
My second son, has applied for Mechanical Engineering (this year)and has had 3 of his 5 offers accepted (Bristol, Warwick and Exeter) making it especially hard for my eldest.

Buttermilk72 · 12/03/2023 14:08

sorry predicted A* in Further Maths

Tree543 · 12/03/2023 14:12

What were his achieved grades 3 x A or 3 x A star? Economics is incredibly competitive. Personally I would have encouraged a couple of his choices to be bit lower in the league tables.

Buttermilk72 · 12/03/2023 14:21

I know, very competitive. His predicted grades were all A and he got 3 A. I agree but my husband was not so easy to convince. It’s so difficult when your son works incredibly hard gets the best grades he can get. He reckons it must be him, it’s awful.. 😞

Buttermilk72 · 12/03/2023 14:22

All A stars achieved and predicted, the asterisk doesn’t seem to come out on the post

Aurea · 12/03/2023 14:33

My son is still waiting 😬.

He's Scottish (state school) and applying for comp sci.

Is your DC from state/grammar or private school as I have heard it can influence decisions?

My DS has similar grades to your DC although these are for the Scottish equivalent of A levels. He has an A star achieved in maths taken early and four A stars predicted this year. He also has 6 highers at grade A from last year.

I understand Scottish unis can be later in their offers; it's still nerve- wracking. He's also applied to Cambridge (post interview rejection) and Durham from which he is still waiting to hear.

It's quite nail -biting now! I hope your DC receives some positive news soon. 🍀🤞

PS congrats Laundry Monster on the Imperial offer (just seen your post ). 😊

Tree543 · 12/03/2023 14:34

That is tough on him with 3 and now 4 A stars. There is still plenty of time for one of his 3 remaining choices to give him an offer.

Buttermilk72 · 12/03/2023 14:55

Grammar School.. this perhaps doesn’t help..
our dilemma is..does he/when does he pull his applications to LSE, Durham and Manchester, so he can try and get something in UCAS extra. He was rejected from LSE last year, just days before the cut off in May.

Aurea · 12/03/2023 15:22

I'm sorry I have no idea.

If I had to advise, I would have a look in to what other offers have been given for the course ( via student room?)

If there are other applicants with a similar profile with offers and a few weeks had gone by, maybe then would be a good time to withdraw?

Hopefully you'll be posting here in a few days to say your son has had a couple of offers 😀. I certainly hope this is going to be me 🍀🤞
