Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Another offer in for ds. Exeter which is his favourite so he’s pleased.

Oh well done! Exeter is DD's 2nd favourite and we assumed we wouldn't hear till after Jan deadline for them. Out of interest which course has he applied for?

Titsywoo · 29/11/2022 21:23

DD got 2nd offer today which was Uni of Sussex (first was her 5th choice and this is her 3rd so they seem to be making their way up 😂)

Offer was AAB or ABB if she firms with them.

Her top 3 are all Russell Group so more nervous about getting offers from them even though her grades are very good. Fingers crossed she gets one of them soon so the pressure is off slightly.

Titsywoo · 29/11/2022 21:24

Sorry this is her 4th not 3rd!

History. It took less than two weeks so fingers crossed your DD won’t have to wait too long.

Onceandfutureking · 29/11/2022 23:02

Dc also has an offer from Exeter - came 2 days after the form was sent.
I suspect each department does things differently as he has two friends who haven't heard yet.

DonnaGiovanna · 30/11/2022 07:35

Wow, hotmilkytea, your post made me grin, what a great day for your dc!
Dd needs to do her extenuating circumstances form for Bristol to let them know about her illness during years 10 and 11, then hopefully we'll start hearing from universities next month.

Riverpebble · 30/11/2022 07:45

We are still waiting on replies from two Scottish universities. We think an offer is coming from one because of a couple of questions they asked but have no clear idea.

We have two offers now.

cptartapp · 30/11/2022 08:00

First offer in after submission on Friday. Mchem for York at AAB. Need an A in Chem. DS extremely laid back about it all.
Exciting.

NotDonna · 30/11/2022 08:56

York seem to be very quick taking just a couple of days. DD was 48hrs not including weekend. And there’s been a few 24hrs. Has anyone heard from Bath or Loughborough yet? I don’t recall seeing any posts saying so. It only went in on Thurs so not expecting anything for a while.

BruceIsACake · 30/11/2022 11:21

Both mine heard from Bath relatively swiftly, within a week for 1 and 10 days for the other.

KittyMcKitty · 30/11/2022 11:21

A couple of DD’s friends have had offers through from Loughborough.

OP posts:
Ciri · 30/11/2022 12:38

Yes we know of lots come through from Loughborough, Manchester Newcastle Liverpool in particular

NotDonna · 30/11/2022 21:58

Loughborough have offered this evening! Just waiting for Bath now.
I’ve just been reading through the accommodation application process for all her choices and they all seem to be the same. Can apply once firmed, guarantee a room but not type, allocate type once Ucas says unconditional firm - so I’m guessing that’s results day? Then says randomly allocated and not first come/first serve. All fair enough.

Yoloohno · 30/11/2022 22:18

Reading this is making me nervous, my Dd school has still not approved her personal statement, it looks like it’ll be mid December before we even submit the application,, although it seems to be the same for all applications from the school.

is this a worry or will there be places available, if offers are being made after applications are in is dd late to apply?

Ciri · 01/12/2022 05:42

All applications before the January deadline get equal consideration. There’s actually no benefit in submitting early (other than a sense of relief that someone wants you). Most of the offers will be rejected of course since most people get multiple offers.

hotmilkytea · 01/12/2022 14:29

Thanks for the warm welcome and kind words!

@NotDonna thanks! The course is Computer Game Design and the offers are Staffordshire, Teeside, Hull and Canterbury Christ Church with 112 ucas points and Northampton with an unconditional. Favourite is Staffs!

DC1 is at uni in Canada and loving it. If anyone wants to know anything more about uni in Canada, applying or whatever, I am always happy to share any knowledge I have!

Congrats to your DC on their offers!!!

@DonnaGiovanna thanks, I am delighted that DC actually found a course they have enthusiasm for, as in spite of being a very good student, really had no clue about the future before discovering Computer Game Design.

Well done to the DC of @ludge, @Ciri, @Titsywoo, @Onceandfutureking and @cptartapp for the recent offers! Hope I haven't missed anyone, trying to catch up.

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun thanks, and hope all is going well for your DC, sounds like they have had a tough time, and I am rooting for them to get the offers they want.

hotmilkytea · 01/12/2022 14:31

@Yoloohno , it's exactly what @Ciri said.

Your DC will not be at any disadvantage if it is submitted in a couple of weeks. It's just nice to have it done, especially with mocks coming up etc. Finger crossed that they sort it out for your DC quickly 🤞

ShowMeABrexitBonus · 01/12/2022 18:27

Ugh. I just found out that DS has applied for 2024, not 2023. He just happened to mention it in conversation with someone else rather than me. So all his offers are for 2024 entry.

I've no idea why he's done this as it now means he is forced to take a GAP year, for which he has zero plans or ideas. I don't mind him taking a GAP year but we had a long chat with him and school whose firm advice was to apply for 2023 and then ask to defer once he has his firm and reserve choices settled. That way he could formulate a GAP year plan but not be committed to it.... grrrr.

DinkyDaisy · 01/12/2022 18:35

My ds deferring and ticked that box. No plans as such apart from getting a job to make some money for university living...

KittyMcKitty · 01/12/2022 18:58

My ds now in his first year at Uni applied for deferred entry with a view to travelling (and when applying the works was still locked down) and it was a brilliant thing for him. He went to Thailand in January (having jumped through many hoops to get there) and had a brilliant time - bizarrely by the time he returned nearly all restrictions had gone and he travelled further through the year.

my dd will go straight from a levels to Uni - everyone is different but I do think applying for deferred entry can be very positive.

DD submitted her UCAS form earlier this week. Feeling very nervous for her as she’s applied for a popular course - PPE. Here’s hoping she gets an offer from at least one of her three favourites!

KittyMcKitty · 01/12/2022 20:47

Fingers crossed you dd hears soon @blametheparents - where has she applied? (My ds is studying philosophy & politics at Manchester).

PhotoDad · 01/12/2022 20:53

Not to derail the thread but if anyone finding this has a DC applying for an arts course which requires a portfolio, there is lots of advice and help here! It's a very different kettle of fish to "normal" UCAS. (The UCAS form triggers a request for a portfolio of work with a very short deadline, and then offers are low or unconditional if the tutors like the material.)

blametheparents · 01/12/2022 21:03

@KittyMcKitty - She’s applied for Sheffield, Exeter, Leeds, Southampton and Warwick. A good range of locations! Of those, Southampton would likely be the insurance based on their published grade requirements.

Yoloohno · 01/12/2022 22:22

Thanks for the reassurance, it’s just her school don’t exactly have a rocket up their arses. But ironically neither does DD.

Her choices aren’t the most popular of locations but close enough to home so she can get back at weekends for friends and to retain her football season ticket.
