Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Hi all, DD now has an offer from Lancaster too. Two offers, one interview and two to go. Feeling quite relieved! (5 days for Liverpool and just over a week for Lancaster).

Neversaygoodbye · 02/12/2022 09:20

We're still waiting on college to submit. It's been with the since last Wednesday. I guess they have quite a lot to go through but the waiting is frustrating. Patience has never been my strong point, DD is much more laid back!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 02/12/2022 09:53

It’s frustrating isn’t it Neversaygoodbye. I guess they set a deadline for the year 13s. Most people work to that and then the school has them all to do at the same time. At least it’s not January with the UCAS deadline looming. I am sure the schools intend to get them all done well before the holidays.

My DD’s form went in yesterday from school, she’s applying for Biochemistry at Imperial, KCL, Glasgow , St Andrews and Birmingham, it’s all very exciting! Good luck to all applying this year

Good luck! st A here too.

Joining you all as going through this with DD1 at the moment. It’s nerve wracking sitting waiting to hear back, didn’t expect to be this nervous for her, although her predicted grades are high, she has set her heart on Edinburgh which we’ve been told is very difficult to get into.

Her application has been in 2 weeks and she has 3 offers back, including her 2nd choice. Just waiting on Edinburgh and Durham now, which I’ve heard are both notoriously slow. I’m telling her (and myself) not to expect anything further until after the January deadline.

Onceandfutureking · 03/12/2022 10:40

Finally DC has 5 offers.
It's a good (and fortunate) position to be in, especially as first and insurance choices are easy for him to decide.
Now to get the grades!

KittyMcKitty · 03/12/2022 11:24

Well done to your dc Once - brilliant news!

welcome OriginalFlake - my dd is also waiting on Durham (for Sociology) - what subject has your dc applied for? Hope the wait isn’t too long!

DS informs me he is close to sending off UCAS form - I think it’s at school-checking stage. I will be relieved when the wretched thing has gone let alone him getting an offer!

DonnaGiovanna · 03/12/2022 15:17

Congratulations onceandfutureking and welcome original flake.

Dd got a slew of acknowledgement emails this morning so I assume we're under starters' orders now...

HappySonHappyMum · 03/12/2022 20:21

It's the start of a big few days here for my DD. She has had 3 interviews so far which have all resulted in offers but this week she has her last two interviews for the Uni's that would be her first and second choices if she got offers from them. I have everything crossed they go well.

We are still waiting for Edinburgh.

Ciri · 03/12/2022 22:33

I think we’ll all be waiting a while on the Scottish universities. DS1 has applied to St Andrews and isn’t expecting to hear until May.

it causes problems for other potential choices which open up accommodation choices early on. You could miss out on decent accommodation at York for example waiting on an offer from St Andrews which probably won’t ever materialise anyway..

St. Andrews is also on our list. We are slightly optimistic as we had an email asking questions which would be irrelevant if an offer wasn't forthcoming but who knows.

NotDonna · 04/12/2022 07:46

Wow lots of offers coming in! And others ready to be sent in.
Where are her 3 from @OriginalFlake?
all five @Onceandfutureking wow! Does your DC have faves?
Great she’s done 3 successful interviews already @HappySonHappyMum and fingers crossed for the next two - what course is she applying for? Didn’t realise so many interviewed (other than vet & med).

PhotoDad · 04/12/2022 07:52

@NotDonna I'm not HappySon, but Nursing and Teaching (which generally means primary, secondary teachers get a subject degree first) tend to interview! Plus of course performing arts of various kinds!

@Ciri It's so annoying that all the unis have different ways of handling accommodation. Some wait until results day, some are first come first served, some allocate more or less at random. 😕

NotDonna · 04/12/2022 08:17

@PhotoDad ah of course nursing and teaching! I had thought creatives. I’m just being nosey anyway. I find where & what DCs choose really interesting. There’s some unusual courses out there.
I’m not sure what the best way of doing accom allocation would be. It’d be a headache on results day given so many go to their insurance. Actually I wonder what the percentages are?

PhotoDad · 04/12/2022 08:33

@NotDonna Around 10% end up in Insurance, I think.

I'm here under false pretences; my DD is in her first year at uni now, but I jump into threads like this because I know the UCAS process inside out as a teacher and can sometimes be helpful. Also DD is doing a really tiny specialised creative course (illustration!) and sometimes I can help with that because the process is so different.

HappySonHappyMum · 04/12/2022 08:59

@NotDonna It's primary ed - good guess @PhotoDad ! I'm glad she's had three interviews already as she sort of knows what to expect because of the other three and will be more prepared. She has had to do Maths and English tests, presentations, group interviews and individual interviews at the other three - as well as provide more id than I ever thought possible(!) for the DBS checks that they do. Would have been awful if she'd submitted her UCAS application later and was doing all this while trying to study for her mocks in January.

DinkyDaisy · 04/12/2022 09:20

My ds ucas form submitted to school ready to send off. His favourite is a BBB entry when predicted much higher. He loved feel of place but in particular the course content and structure.
He has done his homework rather than just go with a name but I know ucas person bit mmm. His form tutor actually gets him and said you have done homework and you are the one who has to go there. He is deferring anyway and ticked that box.

OriginalFlake · 04/12/2022 09:50

@Onceandfutureking wow that’s a brilliant position for your DC to be in at this point!

@KittyMcKitty she’s wanting to do MChem, if Edinburgh gets back to her then she won’t be going with Durham as she has an offer from 2nd choice. Good luck to your DD.

@Riverpebble good to know of someone else waiting. Someone in her year got an offer from them a couple of weeks ago for Chemical Engineering I think but not heard of much else.

@NotDonna Glasgow, QUB & Herriot Watt.

Good luck to all those that have just submitted!

NotDonna · 04/12/2022 13:24

@PhotoDad 10%! as low as that? So almost 90% end up at their firm? That’s quite reassuring! Always good to have teachers & parents that know the processes.
@DinkyDaisy he sounds very sensible and like his form tutor says he’s the one going so it has to be what he wants. So many choose on ‘reputation’ or the fact it’s an RG rather than the actual course content, structure etc.

PhotoDad · 04/12/2022 13:32

@NotDonna Most years it's about the same numbers in Insurance and Clearing, so 70-80% in Firm and 10% (give or take) via each of the other routes, plus a few who end up without a place.

NotDonna · 04/12/2022 13:49

That’s really interesting as iirc the stats around obtaining predicted grades aren’t so great. Like I say that’s somewhat reassuring.

PhotoDad · 04/12/2022 13:53

A lot of unis, but not all, are prepared to accept people who miss their offers by one or two grades. It all depends on the numbers, so that can vary hugely from place to place, but every year we have pleasant surprises at the school.
