Anyone knows when Liverpool interviews? Nothing so far on their site

Monkey2001 · 11/11/2022 23:49

@kk10 website says Jan and Feb, but they have not yet said whether interviews will be on line or F2f!

I remember being very worried about what DD should wear to interviews - even posting a couple of pictures on MN 🤦‍♀️. She had 4 interviews and got progressively less smartly dressed for each of them! She never wore the jacket that we bought, because she didn't want to look like she was going on the apprentice! I do remember that generally the boys that I saw wore ties though.

@Monkey2001 thank you

Monkey2001 · 13/11/2022 23:23

Expecting lots of news on here this week, it is peak week for interview invitations. Good luck all!

Pip4764 · 14/11/2022 07:55

Fingers crossed for you all this week! Do we know if they receive emails directly or via the hub on UCAS….don’t want to miss any (hopefully) potential invites?

Monkey2001 · 14/11/2022 08:13

@Pip4764 they will get emails from the universities and every year some miss them because they go into spam or, for Gmail, Promotions! UCAS only do offers and rejections, not communications fitting the process.

mumsneedwine · 14/11/2022 08:13

@Pip4764 invites won't show up on UCAS, but they might on a portal. Some Unis will have sent students access to their petal already. So check everything a couple of times of week, including Junk in emails

mumsneedwine · 14/11/2022 08:14

@Monkey2001 😊 we were typing together.

Yes, almost did that one together too. Good thing we say the same! 😀

I have been watching some videos about the depressing junior doctor contracts, now £14/hour, but what I had not realised was that they have to pay their own insurance, exams, and training out of that! It is so mean.

I think it would be psychologically better to charge more realistic student fees and pay them better, so double the fees and add 50% to the pay. I know it sounds a bit American, but it would make people feel more valued and mean people were less likely to take the training and leave. I don't know how SLC gets repayments from the people who work abroad, although they are supposed to pay, it must be difficult to get the money.

Pip4764 · 14/11/2022 09:01

Thank you both so much, have been checking the junk, but not promotions…who would know! Thanks for all the advice.

opoponax · 14/11/2022 09:04

It is depressing and mean but I fear that large student fee increases would just present a bigger barrier to DC with less financial support behind them, even if it balanced or worked out better in the long term. Even the current level of debt must be a barrier for many.

They should provide more in the way of incentives for sticking with the NHS. A bigger year 5 bursary and then on your first year anniversary you get 3k knocked off your student loan, after two years you get another 4k knocked off, three years another 5k knocked off and then four years another 6k knocked off. Although it would cost 18k to do so this would just reflect the actual loan amount (not interest) needed by doctors through having to take 4 years of loans rather than three years. It would also be an incentive to stay in the NHS so saving the 160k or whatever it is that it costs the NHS to train a student doctor. If say out of 9 doctors one would leave before 4 years, but is incentivised to stay then it should pay for itself. If it improves retention rates further then it would be profitable. Or just pay them more.

mumsneedwine · 14/11/2022 11:27

They have to pay their own insurance costs too. They have to change all this or there will be no doctors left. If you go abroad SFC can't find you no one is going to tell them where they are !

mumsneedwine · 14/11/2022 11:29

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor it's a great idea but those amounts will just about cover the interest payable. They won't touch the capital amount.
Why not just pay the student loan amount for however long you work for the NHS ? Most would have a huge incentive to stay.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 14/11/2022 11:57

Well yes that would be even better but whether that would be realistic and then you will get other public sector professions saying that they should also get the government paying for their student loans, which arguably they should. Or have a decent bursary from year 4 onwards, enough to live on without parental contribution. Lots of things that could improve retention rather than taking a short term perspective.

Monkey2001 · 14/11/2022 13:22

... or just pay them properly so they can afford to pay their loans off and don't go abroad!

worksleeprepeatwork · 14/11/2022 15:25

Aberdeen interviews are out! By the time my DD saw email the online ones (one day) were gone. She has booked one but just before Christmas so not sure if even possible to get there.

Monkey2001 · 14/11/2022 15:48

@worksleeprepeatwork congratulations on the interview. May be worth asking whether they will be releasing more on line ones, not surprised people like on line for Aberdeen - it is a long way for most people!

Pip4764 · 14/11/2022 16:43

We got an Aberdeen interview (big sigh of relief!), thankfully only have to drive from Edinburgh, was surprised everyone could choose the online day, which doesn’t seam fair and thought you would have to have been international at least to book that one?

opoponax · 14/11/2022 16:51

Congratulations on Aberdeen interviews. Post on TSR saying that Notts have said that they are sending out their invites at end of the month.

@Pip4764 and @worksleeprepeatwork congrats on the interview!

@Pip4764 and @worksleeprepeatwork bjg congrats! Huge moment.

worksleeprepeatwork · 14/11/2022 22:47

@Thethingswedoforlove @GoldieRetrieversRule1 thanks. Seems more real now. She needs to start interview preparation. A low achievement school so zero support there.
Are there any resources anyone has used and recommended. She has just bought the medical interview book.
