Well done to her @Benjispruce4!

RampantIvy · 20/06/2022 17:40

Well done to your DD @Benjispruce4. She has worked hard for it.

I think DD will be one of the last on here to hear. Her course was the last to finish exams as well. She has no idea when she will hear about her dissertation.

MargaretThursday · 20/06/2022 17:46

@Benjispruce4 Well done! Amazing!

DD's just phoned. Very different from the last call where she had had a very bad exam. She's got what she wanted! Very happy and proud of her.
Phew! I can start really thinking about her graduation-didn't dare before in case I jinxed it!
Happy! Happy! Happy!

chocolatenutcase · 20/06/2022 17:49

Well done to your DD @Benjispruce4 and your DS @bigTillyMint
There will be celebrations tonight no doubt.
Results day seems to have come around so quickly. Good luck to everyone else's DC.

minesawine · 20/06/2022 17:49

DS got a 2:1, and is a bit underwhelmed by it all. I am very proud of him.

Congratulations to everyone's DC's

bigTillyMint · 20/06/2022 17:55

Congratulations to yours @minesawine and @MargaretThursday - woo hoo!

@RampantIvy, DS got his diss result with his overall score/degree classification. Some friends still waiting to hear - must be nerve-wracking

LouisCatorze · 20/06/2022 17:58

Well done to all the DC who have their results, and particularly to your DD @Benjispruce4 who seems to be a very motivated learner since schooldays! Celebration time, yay!

Is this the official degree outcomes day for most universities worrying because we've not heard a peep from DS?

I think this is all Durham. Durham has results all week.

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 18:15

Gosh I’m so sorry, I posted without reading as I was alone and just wanted to tell everyone! Many congratulations to your DS@bigTillyMint , @minesawine @MargaretThursday , great results 😜Feeling a bit emosh and so proud. Can’t believe it’s all over. Just crossing everything for DD2 ‘s A levels now. Poor thing has had this all her life but is more than capable herself
Wishing those waiting great results too!

atiaofthejulii · 20/06/2022 18:53

Well done everyone!

Just realised I have no idea when ds gets his.

Yes, well done all, and good luck to those still waiting.

I think I've got so stressed about it after she'd got upset about the exam I can't really believe it's over.
The maths students were the only ones to do the 3 hour exams and the 24 hour suited her far better which was frustrating for her. I really thought it was more likely she'd failed than got what she wanted from what she said.

Any other Durham people graduating on the 30th?

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 21:12

A 3 hr maths exam at that level must be mind bending @MargaretThursday . Massive respect . 💪

MargaretThursday · 20/06/2022 22:06

@Benjispruce4

They did feel it was unfair as all the other subjects were still doing 24 hour ones. They also gave no leeway for any abroad students who were taking them-they had to all be taken at 9:30 BST, which in some cases meant starting in the middle of the night.
Her first exam went so badly that I think it threw her for the others too, but it did end up being moderated up quite a bit.

She doesn't like exams and those could be her last ever, which is a nice thought!

simbobs · 20/06/2022 23:52

Congratulations to all those DC who already have their results, and fingers crossed for those yet to come. They have done so well in the most trying of circumstances.

chocolatenutcase · 20/06/2022 23:57

@MargaretThursday congratulations to your DD. It's all over!
My DD sat those maths exams too and like your DD the 24 hr ones suited her best. With extra time and rest breaks I think my DD had almost four and a half hours of maths and she found them hard. She gets her results on Wednesday but she's chosen her diss for next year and is very happy with her supervisor 😊

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2022 07:15

1st for DS. At 9am (did I mention that?!) but his Maths mates are graduating the 30th so they have arranged for us all to meet at the graduation dinner!

DS said he knew of cheating in STEM online exams (I’m sure not your girls) and that’s why they did the 3hr ones?

Benjispruce4 · 21/06/2022 07:21

We are 28th at 1pm I think, dinner at 6.

RampantIvy · 21/06/2022 07:24

DD's STEM onlin 48 hour exams were open book, and they really ramped up the difficulty of them. They were more like assignments with a very short deadline, so I'm not sure how much "cheating" could happen. She had 2 x 48 hour online exams and 2 in person exams, the last one being a three and three quarter hour maths heavy exam.

She also had the pain of the dissertation and a ten minute presentation of it. This has been a tough degree for DD as it took her well out of her comfort zone.

chocolatenutcase · 21/06/2022 08:40

@bigTillyMint yes it was maths where online cheating was found. I think there's no way of completely stopping students conferring on how to answer a question and then (me not being mathematical) the workings out looking similar. A bit different to extended essays. So the maths department went to exams in person which my DD was furious about. However she's signed up for 3 maths modules in year 4 so she's got more to come!

icanbewhatiwant · 21/06/2022 09:48

Congratulations on all results. As I said up thread....Ds still claims he has no idea when results are. Graduation 20th July. So I guess we will know sometime before then.

VanCleefArpels · 21/06/2022 10:14

My DD chose to do her online open noon exams (essays) in one sitting as soon as the 24 hour window opened, having done some essay plans for various topics during the revision process. She preferred to just get them done. She said the course group chat was rife with messages along the lines of “what case study should I refer to” or “I’ve no idea on X someone help me out” 😳. Needless to say she didn’t engage 😇 but clearly not going to be all the student’s own work in all cases

LouisCatorze · 21/06/2022 10:55

DS says he's too scared to see what he got in his dissertation (he hasn't opened the email!) as that will 'peg' his finals result (aiming for a first but has a wobble and thinks he hasn't achieved it).

@icanbewhatiwant I'm sure I read something that said that all UEA finals results would be available by 3rd July.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/06/2022 11:02

@LouisCatorze ok thanks. I'll tell Ds. But he did say he won't be checking emails while away. I'm sure he will though. He has sent his cv off to a few people, so I hope he checks. Ds was given 66% for his diss. So 2:1 considering he had quite a few problems getting it done, he's pleased with that mark. He has always said he knows he wouldn't achieve a first.

LouisCatorze · 21/06/2022 12:51

It was much easier in the pre-tech days to just 'zone out' about results. If you weren't at home to receive the posted letter notification, you'd remain blissfully unaware until you returned!

The message I'd got was that the maths department asked the 4th year students (as the only ones who had done both in person and 24 hour exams) and they had voted for in person.

There were a group caught cheating in maths I think, but there were also stories of people offering essays online (not just Durham) which would be hard to catch. I doubt there was more cheating in maths than other subjects, certainly dd and her friends were being ultra careful, especially as there were three of them doing maths (and many of the same options) in the house last year.
