Good luck with that @bigTillyMint . Free food and drink and pacing myself are not entirely natural bedfellows! It helped last night that everyone else was doing the same thing!

RampantIvy · 18/06/2022 21:02

No such thing as a graduation dinner at DD's university. Tickets for the grad ball were sold out so DD and her friends didn't get any.

We visited DD today to bring back some of her stuff. Apparently the president of the society who had organised the "ball" spent the whole evening crying in the toilets because it was so awful. A fair few students didn't bother staying at all and everyone else left early. All the students got an apologetic email from the president, but with no mention of a partial refund.

Ds1 is home. Finished packing up his house stuff today. Seems weird that it's all over. It took them 3 days to get the house clean. But 3 are staying until 5th July. So it'll probably get messed up again. Ds did 2 more Tesco covid tests at his uni house, along with all his housemates. They all tested negative. As soon as he arrived home I gave him a flowflex covid test to do. That was positive. So he's to stay in his room as I don't want dh to catch it or ds2 who is doing A levels. He's going to his friends house tomorrow ready to travel to USA Monday eve. He has had a sore throat since weds. So I am hoping he won't be contagious by the time he flies out.

simbobs · 18/06/2022 22:29

@Benjispruce4 well done to your DD. That is such a prestigious achievement and will surely boost her self estime.
@icanbewhatiwant fingers crossed for your DS. It will be an amazing experience.

For those looking for graduation gifts/mementoes this is a great website (I’ve got nothing to do with it btw just used it before with older DC)

I am being guilt tripped on here and on that FB page about graduation gifts. It simply never occurred to me to get one for DD. Now I feel that I have to. I shall probably get a graduation outfit from Build a Bear (yes, I know Grin)

VanCleefArpels · 19/06/2022 14:21

No guilt trip intended - I just ordered a print this morning and thought I’d share it that’s all.

RampantIvy · 19/06/2022 14:28

No worries @VanCleefArpels Smile
I have bought DD some earrings as well, but as her graduation is the day before her birthday it will all blur into one.

LouisCatorze · 19/06/2022 14:40

@RampantIvy love the idea of a graduation outfit from Build a Bear!

RampantIvy · 19/06/2022 14:42

I think I saw it on (whispers) one of the "guilt tripping" posts Grin

LouisCatorze · 19/06/2022 14:51

I quite like those prints @VanCleefArpels quite fancy one myself but DS isn't very sentimental so I'm not convinced he'd appreciate one.

Actually now I come to think of it, we've already bought his present! His first decent suit (he did wear one in the sixth form but it was cheap and he's outgrown it!.

bigTillyMint · 19/06/2022 15:21

We didn’t do a graduation gift for DDs BSc and will continue that tradition for both DSs and her MSc 😂

I bought DS a suit for potential interviews but they were all online so smart shirt and tie and shorts sufficed!

LouisCatorze · 19/06/2022 17:08

Yes, it sets a bit of an expensive precedent, doesn't it @bigTillyMint ?

I can already imagine DD weighing up the potential value of such a gift based on what DC1 has been given! She doesn't miss a trick.

bigTillyMint · 19/06/2022 17:15

Oh yes @LouisCatorze - that would be my two! Especially as DD will have had two graduations….

Benjispruce4 · 19/06/2022 20:13

After the last conversation about this I had a look on Etsy and ordered a vintage style travel poster of Durham and I’ve framed it. I think she’ll be sad to leave the city and it might be a nice thing to keep and take with her wherever she lives. Of course she might absolutely hate it but it’s the thought that counts. She’s had generous gifts for her 21 st and a new Mac book this year so I think she’ll cope.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/06/2022 22:18

I like those gifts with the city letter. But for us with Norwich being our closest city, it wouldn't seem that special. I have bought Ds a beer tankard with the words congratulations on your graduation, I'll get beer too. Also I bought a little graduation Lego man because I liked it.

Ds left for London this morning he's at his mates house tonight, they fly to USA tomorrow. I can't believe all the stuff he's brought home. His bedroom and bed have stuff all over. I've done 6 washing machine loads. Also several bags downstairs and in his car still 🙈

atiaofthejulii · 19/06/2022 22:38

Have been in Manchester this weekend moving ds and girlfriend into their new flat - it's lovely, a step up from student houses, lol, and they're both really excited about being there.

They went to his girlfriend's PGCE ball last night which sounded pretty good compared to previous stories on here! £35 for a three course meal and a good amount of free wine, and they had fun apart from being a bit tired out from the house moving.

We're up again in a month for his graduation. I've never done graduation presents (I did buy him a suit recently but I'd promised him it months ago!) but I could easily persuade myself that they need a housewarming present. .. 😀The older sisters are still here, it might be an incentive for them to leave 😅

Congrats to your dd @Benjispruce4, how brilliant of her.

And good luck to your son @icanbewhatiwant , hope he has a fab time

LouisCatorze · 20/06/2022 07:09

@icanbewhatiwant hope your DS has a fantastic time in the US.

@atiaofthejulii lovely of you to help your DS and his g/f move into their new flat. And great that they had a much better supplied ball experience.

icanbewhatiwant · 20/06/2022 08:13

Thanks. Ds should be boarding the plane about now. I've put Snapchat on my phone just so I can see where he is. I like the way it automatically gives him a little suitcase as he's at the airport. I shall worry for the next 3 weeks. I know he will have a great time though.

minesawine · 20/06/2022 09:20

DS gets his degree grade/results today and I'm trying not to be my usual pushy self and wait for him to call me, and its torture. I know he had a big night out yesterday, but how he can even think about sleeping when his mother is so anxious and stressed is beyond me. I will give another half hour and then I will have to call and wake him up😩

VanCleefArpels · 20/06/2022 10:54

Oh good god @minesawine i feel for you! D-Day is 1st July for us. DD’s hoping that her work start date will be after this - imagine being in an office and getting your results 😐.

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 12:37

D day for DD too. She’s not heard yet @minesawine ( I only know because she’s texted for money😉)

bigTillyMint · 20/06/2022 13:30

DS has got his - all good 😀
I could hear the relief in his voice!
His friends get theirs at 3 apparently.

Fingers crossed for those waiting!

icanbewhatiwant · 20/06/2022 14:33

Ds has no idea when he gets his results. He's had the dissertation mark. That's fairly good considering all the problems he encountered. He's now gone off to USA for 3 weeks and won't be checking emails anyway.

I hope everyone gets the grades they want.🤞

Benjispruce4 · 20/06/2022 17:01

DD got First Class Honours. I’m beyond proud .🥹
