Help with uni choice - physical education

Teesdale2622 · 14/10/2021 21:57

Dd is in year 13 and is keen to study physical education (& coaching?).

Ideally within 2.5hrs of east London.
Ideally near a City
Predicted grades BBC
Campus uni

We can’t seem to find anywhere that’s fits all criteria..

We have the following;
Oxford Brooke’s (not campus)
Chichester (not City)
Brighton (not City) (Eastbourne campus)
Lincoln (not campus)

Are there any we are missing?

St Marys in Twickenham?

xmasdealhunter · 14/10/2021 22:09

Northampton is a campus uni, it offers Physical Education + Sport (not a city but meant to have good nightlife)

Canterbury CC Uni offer it too

Sports Science/PE at Loughborough has a great reputation.

I know several sporty people who went there and are very good trainers and coaches. About 2 hours from London by train.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 14/10/2021 22:10

loughborough

secretbookcase · 14/10/2021 22:11

Forgot to say, it's a campus uni too.

OrangeBlossom28 · 14/10/2021 22:13

University of Worcester is a good one that's campus and not too far. Grades are the right ball park too.

Teesdale2622 · 14/10/2021 22:16

Thank you all, I think Loughborough grades are too high… will look at the others.Smile

Brighton Eastbourne campus was under threat of closure not so long ago. Bath uni or UWE?

BellaVida · 14/10/2021 22:23

Not checked the full details, but have you looked at:
Surrey
Coventry
Canterbury Christchurch
Gloucester
St Mary’s Twickenham
Brunel
Writtle
Nottingham Trent

MajorNeville · 14/10/2021 22:26

Leeds Beckett do a sports coaching course.

Teesdale2622 · 14/10/2021 22:28

@LIZS thank you that’s interesting

Im Googling all now…

Uni of Kent?

Annietheacrobat · 14/10/2021 22:37

UWIC Cardiff. 2 hour train from London. Probably closer to 3 hours from East London

Teesdale2622 · 14/10/2021 22:42

I don’t think Coventry, Nottingham Trent, Kent, Writtle, Surrey or Leeds Beckett do a physical Ed course.

Adding at Mary’s, Northampton, Canterbury, Worcester to the list.

Dd had already discounted Brunel.

Thanks all

Liverpool John Moores and Chester. JMU isn’t a campus exactly but the new sports teaching is in one area with all the facilities you’d need and next to accommodation - library is 2 mins up the road

TizerorFizz · 15/10/2021 09:03

Why would you choose Northampton over Oxford Brookes? Oxford B does have a campus at Wheatley! It’s also a great city in which to be a student. It really trumps Northampton (and I know if well) and Worcester too. No student just stays on campus and they need a life outside with other things to do and see. Oxford and other larger university allows this. I cannot see the advantage of campus over quality of university. I would go for former poly over former college of FE/HE any day.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 15/10/2021 17:13

leeds beckett definitely sports science
www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/courses/sport-exercise-science-bsc/
not a campus uni though and a longer journey from london

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 15/10/2021 17:14

in fact they do a whole raft of p.e courses
www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/subjects/sport/

my son is there and has a great time

borntobequiet · 15/10/2021 17:21

Hartpury? Campus, 4 miles or so to Gloucester, about 2 hours to London on train. Beautiful surroundings. Not sure of required grades.

loobylou10 · 15/10/2021 21:39

Leeds Beckett. Son number 2 there now doing sports coaching. He loves it.

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2021 11:47

Lincoln may not be a campus but it is small and compact and lovely. All the accommodation is close to the uni and the city centre. There is one accommodation block favoured by sports students as it is near the facilities.

OBU does have a campus site with all the sport stuff and plenty of accommodation on that campus. It is really good for sport.

I think that Nottingham Trent and Surrey both do.

Anglia Ruskin at Cambridge

thismeansnothing · 16/10/2021 12:48

Bath?

Loughborough is renowned for its sports science.

TizerorFizz · 16/10/2021 17:50

@thismeansnothing
Would you get into Bath or Loughborough with BBC grades at A level? Possibly not.
