@ofteninaspin - your DD is on a roll!

Hoghgyni · 19/05/2021 22:27

That's brilliant news Often.

FingernailNibbler · 19/05/2021 22:35

Fantastic news, @ofteninaspin That's brilliant news! Smile

sandybayley · 20/05/2021 07:07

@ofteninaspin - that's amazing news. You must be so proud of her 😊

Well done to your lass Often Grin

goodbyestranger · 20/05/2021 09:31

Very well done indeed to your DD ofteninaspin - as you say, a great boost ahead of finals

In trivial news, DD has earned thirty quid a time for each of her two collections, which she's delighted with :)

mutterphore · 20/05/2021 09:59

Goodbyestranger, well done to your DD too! Not trivial at all. I hope she's had a really good first year, so far, in all ways.

ofteninaspin · 20/05/2021 10:11

Congratulations to your DD on both her prizes, @goodbyestranger. Definitely not trivial news Smile.
Great to hear that DT has had a "normal" supervision, @mutterphore. Hoping this marks a turning point and more good stuff will happen.

mutterphore · 20/05/2021 11:18

Thanks for the good wishes for DS1, Often. Things have definitely improved for him and he does now seem to have two sets of friends - one lot being connected to his household and all engineers and one lot being connected to an old school friend and a society/ activity that's of marginal interest to DS1 but where he seems to be meeting more like-minded people.

He has another supervision indoors coming up but the supervisor may require everyone (there are 4 of them) to wear face masks, despite the Rule of 6 meaning they shouldn't have to. At least it won't be another Zoom-in-your-room session.

HuaShan · 20/05/2021 13:08

Congratulations to often and goodbye's DD's. Can I add that DS also got a book prize for his first collections and a zoom with the Master Blush. His last collections weren't too shabby either, average 95% over the papers.

mutterphore · 20/05/2021 13:10

HuaShan, wow! Your DS has also done incredibly well too. Congratulations to him!

Ironoaks · 20/05/2021 13:12

@HuaShan I knew your DS was very able at his subject but that is a really impressive start - well done to him.

Unescorted · 20/05/2021 13:42

Wow... well done to him.

goodbyestranger · 20/05/2021 13:58

Very well done to your DS too HuaShan and at least he's doing a proper subject (DD was in the 90s too but as her biggest sister says.... she's only doing Beginners' Latin).

goodbyestranger · 20/05/2021 14:03

Although her workload sounds bad atm: she says she has six tutorials a week - but perhaps I misheard. That seems like at least four too many.

Ironoaks · 20/05/2021 16:57

DS still has 12 lectures, 4 supervisions and 2-3 practicals a week. Because the lecture duration isn't limited by the room booking, many of them are well over an hour. DS starts watching them at 8am each morning to fit them in.

I think the lectures and practicals will stop after week 4, which should give them time to fit in some revision.

Ironoaks · 20/05/2021 17:07

@goodbyestranger - well done to your DD on the prizes; probably very welcome at a time of year when tickets for garden parties etc are starting to become available.

DS found out last week that he had won three prizes from his school (in the form of vouchers). He mentioned it to his grandparents and they congratulated him... by sending him some money.

We're taking him to Fitzbillies this weekend, so I'll ask him if he'd like to go shopping too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/05/2021 17:41

Well done HuaShans lad and Goodbyes dd Grin you both should be very proud.

I have no idea what week they are in. Haven't they reached week 4 yet?

ofteninaspin · 20/05/2021 17:45

Lots of good news on here re prizes and visits. Congratulations to @Ironoaks Jnr.
DS has also mentioned the problem of extra long lectures. He has just submitted his last two essays/problem sheets and exams start next week. He does tend to leave everything to the last minute but I’m not sure how these exams will pan out.

Pepermintea · 20/05/2021 19:08

Congratulations to often, goodbye and HuShan's DC. Very encouraging for them all! Also to Ironoaks DS for the school prizes.

Glad to hear that your DS1 is having a better time now mutterphore.

I found out that DS had dressed up and gone to formal hall with his friends this week, which was nice for them as they were all isolating for matriculation, so at least the gown has been worn now! I discovered this via a friend - DS hasn't mentioned it yet!

Malbecfan · 21/05/2021 17:41

Congratulations to @ofteninaspin's DD, @goodbyestranger's DD4 and @HuaShan's DC.

Nothing much from me. DD never mentions work in her WhatsApp or text messages. However, her chapel choir has its first football match this Sunday. It sounds as if she is playing! Her bf has been coaching her and he captains their college 2nd team. I only find out the random stuff!

JBX2013 · 22/05/2021 09:31

Sorry to mention mundane stuff but, on Covid-19 protocol, my daughter's old (undergraduate) college at Cambridge is now allowing overnight guests in student rooms. Any such developments at other colleges?

No such change yet at her current (Masters) college.

sandybayley · 22/05/2021 11:18

Yes. DS1's O college is allowing overnight guests.

OP posts:
ofteninaspin · 22/05/2021 13:39

DD’s O college is not allowing overnight guests yet.

PantTwizzler · 22/05/2021 13:42

Congratulations to the DC of @ofteninaspin, @goodbyestranger and @HuaShan! Fabulous news!
